My first time or What have I gotten myself into?

Ok you just sold me on the Atomic Buffalo Turds! :) I might even need photos of those....I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Jenn

Ty, thank you. I am a bit overwhelmed. But it is fun at the same time.

Thanks Great tips... Soarin is definitely on our list as is Coral Reef for
dinner(that is IF I can get an ADR, or can I just walk up?)

Early Happy Birthday to you too! I loved Germany and was stationed in
TX(San Antonio) for a while. I think we do sacrifice some but at the same
time we were proud to be Soldiers and knew we were doing what needed to
be done. Wasn't always fun and it was often hard on our families. I also
want to thank you, being the daughter of a career soldier and for the
support and love you gave during that time. While we may not say it often
enough it always lifts our spirits.

Oh and how neat! Taking you mother to Disney for her first time.. You are a
wonderful daughter!!!

How long is your trip planned for? We will be at Ft Discovery on the 12th but
will actually arrive on the 10th. Got to be at Disney for my BD, :rotfl:

Will be reading your PTR here in a bit.

Gene
Your post brought me to tears, you completely understand. My dad was a proud soldier, and I was (and still am) so proud of my Dad.

We were stationed in Dexhiem, Worms and Schwabach. (attended highschool in Nurnburg) those were great times. That's why I love the Germany pavillion so much at Epcot, it is pretty close to the real thing.

Our dates are Dec3-11, we depart on your birthday. I call my mom everyday and update her on things I have probably already updated her on before, she deals with it ok. I am so excited to be there with her for her first visit to WDW. I plan to watch her reaction when she see's the castle for the first time. I can't wait.

Congrats on getting your ADR's booked, it's smooth sailing from here on out.
I hope you love Coral Reef as much as I do. I've been twice and loved it both times. Just the atmosphere of the place alone makes it worth going. the chocolate wave is number one in my book.

Keep us posted on your plans, so far so good. Not too sure about the atomic buffalo turds though, it actually sounds like it could end up being painful.:lmao:

Another decision to make.

To MVMCP or not. Having never been my first inclination in to pony up the
money and go. But just what IS the MVMCP and is it worth doing. Maybe
worth is not the right description. Is this something adults enjoy as much as
the kids? There that sounds better, if so I will need to decide where to fit
this into our schedule...

So help me out Disney Veterans, to MVMCP or not to MVMCP.. that is the
question.

Gene

I went to MVMCP in Dec 2007. I loved it. I was strictly there for all the special shows. They also do a special Christmas parade and special fireworks. It snows on main st. They sell merchandise that you can only get during MVMCP. and they serve cookies, hot chocolate and apple wedges all night for FREE! I'm all about free cookies, heck I'm just all about cookies, but they taste so much better when they are free, I also like to think they carry no calories when they are free.;)

My DD and her friend wasn't into the shows or parade, she wanted rides, so that's what she did the whole time, she said everything was walkon, and sometimes when the ride was over the CM's would let them stay on and go again.

I love anything Christmas and anything Disney, so in my opinion I say do MVMCP.

Okay... I couldn't stand it.

We now have MVMCP tickets for our last night, the 17th.
I think this will make our last night at Disney even more special as if it isn't
special enough already.

So now what's next? Start making lists for packing. Hey.. no one ever accused
me of waiting until the last minute.

Reminder to myself... get lots and lots and lots of lights to decorate the camper.

Jenn, here is a plate of turds.. they are yummy!!!

Gene

Haha! OK they sound a lot better than they look but I will willingly eat that whole plate :) They look just like they sound...turdy.

I did MVMCP two years ago and we had a great time. The fireworks were really cool, and I loved that it snowed on Main Street. We didn't get a great spot for the parade (we lost track of time so were walking to somewhere when it started so we just stood where we were) so we didn't enjoy it as much as we could have. The free hot chocolate and apples were a plus. And there were a bunch of characters out and about taking photos and stuff. Just taking in everything going on around you is worth it. I honestly don't think there's any better place in the world to enjoy the holidays.

Oh... before I forget... when you guys are in Epcot, please please PLEASE make sure you go see the Voices of Liberty. It's an accapella group that sings in the rotunda of the American Adventure Pavillion. Check your times guide to see when they perform. When it's not the holidays they usually only sing patriotic songs but during the holidays they mix in a lot of holiday music. They're dressed in the old colonial holiday clothing and are simply amazing. I get choked up and shed tears almost every time I watch them and make sure to see them at least two or three times on every trip.

Jenn,

Thanks for the great tip. I am rather patriotic. This will be a must see on our
trip.

Okay, guy at work says I need to get some pins. So I ask why and of course
he says to trade. Well.. okay.. but with who? He says you would be surprised.
Yeah.. okay.. again, what are these "pins" and where do you get them and then
what do you do with them?

I have been going through our Unofficial Guide and we have been planning our
park visits. We are trying to work it so our park visits coincide with our ADRs.
Still a work in progress. But the wife is really really excited about MVMCP and
that hug dang near broke my back but oh so worth it.

Gene

We went to post today and over to the MWR travel office and guess what we
received and bought? 2 tickets to paradise!!! My Military Salute
complementary ticket(5 day with park hopper and H2Opark) and a greatly
discounted 5 day with park hopper for my wife!!!

Swwweeeeet... maybe
trudging around in the mud and muck and jungles and butt deep snow was
worth it. We also received our reservation confirmation letter in the mail.

What a great Friday!

Thank you Disney!!

Gene

Oh Happy Friday!!!!! Those tickets look so cool.
So are you thinking you're going to do some pin trading? I never got into it myself, I buy them and want to keep them, forget trading. I heard it's tons of fun though, From my understanding the CM's all have pins on their lanyards and they will trade with guests.

Hmm.. well I do collect hat pins. So maybe the pin thing might be fun. Will
have to think about this. We are both getting in the spirit.

Now.. what are the MUST ride rides? Here is our list:

Soarin
Rock n Roller Coaster
Toy Story Mania
African Safari
Everest
Tower of Terror

So what are the absolute must ride rides on your lists?

Thanks Ty,

That is what I am thinking too as I collect pins for my hat. I have about a
dozen or so now and generally get one on our trips.

Gene

Hi Gene,

I never got into pin trading. In my opinion it's a lot of money and not worth it. But I know some people swear by it. I do buy one or two every year but I keep them and don't trade them.

As for must rides? Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom are hte quintessential Disney rides. Other great rides in the MK are Space Mt, Splash Mt, Philharmagic, and Hall of Presidents since you said you're patriotic. :)

Epcot I enjoy Mission Space (the orange line is the rougher ride, green I believe is the calmer version...but double check!), Voices of Liberty, and American Adventure.

AK I like Everest and the Safari. The Lion king and Nemo shows are also very good.

Hollywood Studios... Tower of Terror, RockNRollercoaster, Toy Story Mania, and the One Man's Dream Exhibit

Dito! All the rides mentioned above are on my A list. I also think dinosour in AK is a must and so is Bugs Life.

Hollywood Studios- Muppets 3-D. I grew up with that show so it's a must for me.

Magic Kingdom- Do not miss Philharmagic. It brought me to tears I was so over come with the magic of Disney.

Epcot WS- I will have to say the best attraction in all the countries is The American Adventure. I love History and I have a total love for my country, this is a DO NOT MISS!!!!

Good point Jenn, I will most likely just buy a few for my own collection and leave it at that.

Will add those to my list. Darn list is starting to get long.

Epcot I enjoy Mission Space (the orange line is the rougher ride, green I believe is the calmer version...but double check!), Voices of Liberty, and American Adventure.

I haven't heard much about these. Time for some research.

AK I like Everest and the Safari. The Lion king and Nemo shows are also very good.

Will have to add Nemo and Lion King.

Hollywood Studios... Tower of Terror, RockNRollercoaster, Toy Story Mania, and the One Man's Dream Exhibit

Not sure why but I forgot that these were at Hollywood Studios.

Thanks again. Hope you enjoyed your Hike last weekend. The images look
like you had fun!

Gene

These are not on my list yet. Will need to do some more research. Thanks

Hollywood Studios- Muppets 3-D. I grew up with that show so it's a must for me.

The Muppets.. man.. I remember watching the Muppets when my kids were
small. Will take a look at this one too.

Magic Kingdom- Do not miss Philharmagic. It brought me to tears I was so over come with the magic of Disney.

You are about the 10th person to tell me not to miss Philharmagic. It is now
a must see! Thanks!

Epcot WS- I will have to say the best attraction in all the countries is The American Adventure. I love History and I have a total love for my country, this is a DO NOT MISS!!!!

Epcot is the park we will probably spend multiple days at. Will look forward
to seeing The American Adventure.

Thanks again Ty,

Gene
