...I see them all the time here, and being a member in good standing, I figured "What the hell, I'll do my own vent!"

There are a few people here, and you know who you are, that take every possible opportunity to denigrate the military. You accuse us of killing innocent women and children, and you act like we're committing some type of war crime because we have the ability to sit back from a few miles away and blow away a target. You seem to think that it is somehow ungallant of us to use the technology developed in this country to achieve our goals while minimizing the loss of American life. You seem to think that the men and women of the United States Armed Forces take some kind of sick pleasure in killing people. You don't even see us as people, but rather as robotic killing machines.

You're wrong. We are moms and dads, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. We have spouses that we love, and children that we cherish. And to top it off, not only are we willing to die for our kids, but we're willing to die for YOUR kids too. And we're willing to die for your right to sit back in the comfort of your home and accuse us of both stupidity and bloodlust. Military members provide the secure environment that allows you the luxury of earning a good living and enjoying your families and your lives. And we do it for considerably less money that most of our critics would be willing to accept for much lesser sacrifice.

We don't want your sympathy - after all, we volunteered. But a little respect might be nice. An occassional "Hey, I appreciate what you do".

A thank you.

Golf Claps for my favorite Air Force person!!

I just want to take this opportunity to say that I appreciate what you do AFR.

I appreciate that I can enjoy living in a country where I can speak my mind because people like you and your husband are willing to put their lives on the line to protect our way of life!!

Thanks!

Bren, everybody who matters, appreciates what you do. We know the sacrifices our military goes through to keep our country safe. Don't worry about the few who don't appreciate what you do. You know damn well they sleep in peace in their beds at night because of you, and Thank God it's not them we have to look to, to protect this country. Because if it was, I'm afraid he would be under his bed crying like a little girl.

Hey, there's great nobility in being a warrior and defender of one's country. My own father was a Captain in the U.S. Army and was decorated in combat.

As a kid, I lived through the desolation and destruction of VIETNAM. I knew families who lost their brave sons there. I cry every time that I get to the WALL.

Soldiers carry out orders. That's their job. I've never had a problem with the American fighting man/woman. Our volunteer force is indeed the mightiest in the world.

I DO take issue with politicians who are so willing to sacrifice American lives. I DO take issue with a President who has his own bloodthirsty vendetta to depose Saddam at almost any cost. Soldiers have been dying for century upon century for the mistakes in judgment of their leaders..........

I DO thank you for serving your country. I DO thank you for putting your life at risk to defend our nation. .........

Let me be the first on this thread to say I do respect and appreciate the military, which obviously includes you.

As a veteran myself, I returned from Vietnam in 1966 to a very different kind of civilian public than went I left. Those attitudes affected me more than anything else could have. It's odd how those people never seem to grasp that it's a strong military that allows them to still express their misguided views.

Thank you for what you do!

Vent away Brenda. Just wanted to add my thanks for what you do. Ignore the idiots its the majority that appreicate you.

Not sure what prompted this (I may have just missed it of course since there are dramas ever few seconds around here). Sorry you feel that way. I wish we could say that everyone in this world was nice and caring about everyone else, but that would just plain not be the truth (and if it were the case we might not need military forces in the first place). Most of all the people are nice though. There are some bad apples that will say just about anything just to get a rise out of some people.

There are a few people here, and you know who you are, that take every possible opportunity to denigrate _____

you could fill in the blank with just about any term, fat people, skinny people, rich people, poor people, religious people, non religious, and any other assortment of titles.

I personally do appreciate people in the military, but like you said you choose your course, and since you had the free will to do that, then you can not blame others who are anti-military, or anti-weapons or whatever. They are given that right by this country that you so steadfastly protect. If you personally know that what you are doing is the right thing, and that the choices and decisions you have made will lead you on the proper path, than that is all you need. You don't need others to "thank you" for what you do if you know that what you are doing is right! (Although a thank you every now and then is always nice!!!)

Glad to know you are a member in good standing!

Having been raised in a Navy family (Dad was a Navy Captain) where we saw some of the devastation caused by the Vietnam and Korean Wars, I applaud you for your generous contribution to our community. Military life can be difficult. You should be honored for your commitment to protecting our country. The Navy provided for our family for many years, and still continue to take care of my mom, since my father passed away. They were so kind when my father passed away, even though he had long since retired.
I have many friends who are military, and know the sacrifices they make and the choices they don't cherish.
Thank you.

Wonderful post, Brenda!

I thank you and ALL your fellow servicewomen/men from the bottom of my heart for the many sacrifices you make on my behalf!

For those who have such absolute faith in our leadership, please rent this movie. Yes, it stars a VERY young Mel Gibson:D .....

"A powerful statement on the terrible toll which war takes on youth and innocence. Stunning cinematography and great acting, highlight this tale of the ill-fated Austrialian attack against the Turks during WWI. Two friends enlist hoping for adventure and glory, but learn first hand the horrors and helplessness of war. If you liked Saving Private Ryan, you will love this film. A epic movie that that is hard to forget, with a gut wrenching finale"

Thank you!!!

I am glad you posted your "vent." I am not a member of the armed forces but I also get very irritated when people don't understand why you guys are absolutely necessary to the preservetion of America, our freedom, and our security.

It would be nice if you guys were not needed as no one likes war....no one likes killing people. What disturbs me is that there are so many people that don't realize that you guys save so many lives by doing your job. THANK YOU!

For those who have such absolute faith in our leadership, please rent this movie.

EROS, this post isn't about our leadership, nor has anyone here said anything about "absolute faith" in same. Can't you keep on topic even once?

Coming from a military family myself, and having been an Air Force wife, I can appreciate the sacrifices all military families make for their country.

Thank you. You are all Heroes.

Wow.

AFR--I appreciate, truly appreciate what you do. It is an amazing sacrifice that you make for us.

I am sorry someone (somebodies?) has made you feel badly. It stinks.

I appreciate it all.

Debbie

So what I want to know is there ever a thread you can't preach on EROS? ;)

Wells aid Brenda and I support our Military 110%........... of course it doesn't hurt that I sleep with a member of that military every night! ;)

I admire and appreciate all that the men and women in our armed forces do for us. So thank you, to all of you.

I am proud to say I am the wife, daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter of veterans :)
