My first attempts at Selective Coloring... and now others' pics too!

I was going to suggest downloading PAint Shop Pro X, for the 30 day free trial, but I see my new spokesperson {Anewman } already gave you that info.....LOL

PSP X will do anything photo shop will do, at a fraction of the cost..

you will get varying responses , it's like anything else a matter of personal preference..

I had photoshop and paint shop pro 9 on my home PC, and after months of playing decided I like PAint Shop Pro better, so I deleted photoshop, and bought PAint Shop Pro X when it was released.. it can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be, depending on the amount of control you wish to have over your editing..

PSP X has some really neat new tools, you can brush on a suntan, whiten teeth with one click of the mouse, really great tools...

some people will never use all of the features of PSPX or photoshop CS, but others will get addicted to playing with editing, and will grow into these programs..

there is also another good program that I don't think has been mentioned yet, it's actually a free download.....GIMP....it has great features but I find it's not as user friendly...I also have that on my PC, and play with it occasionally...

Just looking through this thread, everyone has done a nice job on some great pics. Here's one I did of my son taken at Epcot.

Can anyone provide a quick lesson on how to do selective coloring with Paint Shop Pro. Or is there somewhere online that might give step-by-step? I am currently trying Paint Shop Pro on the 30 day trial, but I'm really challenged when it comes to this type stuff!

I have to run right now, but will give a step by step tonight when I get home

I am a failure at selective coloring! I just can't figure Photoshop out for more than adjusting and cropping photos. I will keep working with it and one day I WILL figure it out!

Are there instructions on how to do this? It looks fun :D

Do you have photo editing software? If you have access to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, I posted a link to a tutorial in post #4 of this thread. Otherwise, my guess is you could google '[name of program] tutorial selective coloring' or something along those lines :goodvibes

here is the method I used for my pics on this post

1. open your photo
2. enlarge it by scrolling your mouse wheel
3.pic your selection tool. I use freehand smart edge
4. slowly click around the edges of the part you wish to separate
5. once you have completely traced the subject, such as Donald in my second pic
6. choose selections, invert
7. your selected area is now the part around the main subject
8. choose adjust, hue and saturation, then colorize
9.then slide the sliders all the way to the left removing all color from the background, click OK
10, you should now have a colored subject with B&W background
11. right click anywhere in the pic toremove your selection tool
12, save copy as, to avoid losing your original pic

I did this one recently of my friend's newborn daughter in Paint Shop Pro 9...

You all have such great pictures! Please keep them coming. I love this thread.

That photo of the baby is breath taking, what a great photo and the selective coloring only adds more beauty to it. Oh I can't wait to have little ones, DFiance thinks I'm camera happy now...oh just wait...lol!

I took a class in this, and one of the things they taught was to lower the opacity on the brush, so that it's not so stark. It's a little bit different look, but I like it.
