My filling came out...Help! So much pain

Hi there

Ok, so my filling came out. I can't get an appointment in a dentist for 2 days. I have so much pain and I don't know how to stop the pain!! Can someone help please? Any remedies?

They have temporary filling stuff at Walgreens, CVS etc... It'll work till you get to the dentist.

Well it's evening time here in Dublin, and unfortunately all the chemists close at 6pm...!
It's so painful :-(

I recently lost a filling. The dentist told me to stick some gum in the space until she could get me in to see her. Worked for me, I used sugarless gum.

Fillings can come out for several reasons, ranging from decay under one to cracking of the tooth. You've probably done something like that and exposed the root of the tooth, or if it was a case of decay, you may have an abcess.

Any of these is going to be very painful and probably not receptive to over the counter remedies. You should try moist heat to your jaw off and on every 30 minutes and try ibuprofen or other Non steroidal medicinal help.

If you have an abcess, your dentist will need to clean out the infection and you will probably require a root canal and possibly a crown. If the tooth is cracked, you may lose it. Hope not.

Jaw pain is the worst. Hope you can find some relief.

Can you call your dentist and ask for something for the pain until you get there. If he know how much pain you are in he may make a exception and see you. I think he should. I have been there so I know.

That is the worst. The Dentist told me when I broke my tooth to take Ibuprofen.

Thanks guys...Unfortunately this morning the pain is still there. Ibuprofen aren't even working. I think it's because the nerve is exposed at this stage that it's causing this much pain.

Hopefully I get an appointment soon though. Even if it does cost over €100 !!!

Try using clove oil.If you can't get the oil use whole cloves just put it in your mouth around the tooth that hurts.

I got an appointment for Friday morning... seems like forever away at the moment.
I do have clove oil, but it makes me gag lol! I have tried it tho!

That's awful!!! I can't believe your Dentist won't see you on an Emergency basis! Is there not a Dentist he/she can refer you to in the interim? I would NOT stand for that...

You poor thing...exposed nerve is so painful.

That wouldn't work for me either. I believe I would be finding another dentist, like NOW!

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but on Thanksgiving day this past year my son fell and broke his front tooth, bad. I called a dentist in that town and of course I couldn't get him in that day. It may sound crazy, but he told be to put clear nail polish on it to cover the nerve if it was hurting him. He said sports players do this a lot when it happens to them. He said it would take a few coats of it.

I thought it was crazy, but we did it. Turns out DS's tooth did not break to the root. We waited until we got home to go to our dentist.

Tooth pain is the worst! I really hope you feel better soon.

The clove oil IS gross but it works. It's what is used to fix a "dry socket" after a tooth extraction (essentially the blood clot that forms after the extraction gets dislodged and the nerve or bone is exposed in the empty tooth socket). The dentist takes a tiny piece of gauze, soaks it with clove oil and packs it into the socket. I've had TWO dry sockets in my life...sweet Jesus it hurt! The second the dentists packed that nasty tasting stuff in there it was better.

Hey thanks for all the help guys. I did try getting to another dentist but believe it or not they were all booked up for the past 2 days so I am gonna just have to wait til tomorrow morning...

I'm just glad it's soon gonna be all over. Even though I hate needles or anything sharp near my mouth. Stick a needle anywhere else on my body, but DONT go near my mouth lol. I find it terrifying! Luckily my mam is coming with me! DBF will be working
Oh well! Wish me luck, and hopefully it hasnt gotten worse and hasnt escalated to needing more than just a filling!!
