My FIL hit a snowplow!!!!

Just a little while ago. He was driving to get to work. He said he was going very slow but he couldn't see anything with the blowing snow. He tried to stop and couldn't and lost control and hit a snow plow!!!! Thank God he's OK!! The car is totalled but can be replaced. I'm shaking now. MIL just called to beg us not to go to work today and to keep DD home. I have to go to work but now I'm really nervous. FIL is a great driver but he said the conditions were just so bad there was nothing he could do. I'm going to wait until 8 or 8:30 and see what I'm hearing about the roads and call into work and see who else is showing up. By then at least it won't be dark anymore and the visibility will be better.

All schools in GTA are closed. That hasn't happened in 12 years. That's how bad the driving is.

Buses are cancelled in Simcoe County but the schools are still open. The last time the buses were cancelled but the schools were open I took DD to school and there is no way that school should have been open. The parking lot was filled with snow and people couldn't get out. It was very unsafe. So today, DD is staying home.

I watched the news last night and the videos shown from various parts of the midwest and NE were scary. OK looked really bad.

ETA- OP, DH was scheduled to travel to Canada this week (Kitchener), but his trip was postponed. I'm so glad! I'll tell him about the conditions where you are.

I live in Southern NH and everything here is shut down. DH works in Boston and his employer closed the office for today last night, as did DS' school. I work for a local law firm and it was announced at 6:30 this morning that our office is closed. You know its really bad out when that happens. From what I understand the firm has only closed about 3 times since the opened in the late 1800's! Both girl's colleges have closed, too.

Kitchener is a few hours south-west of where I live but its WAY WORSE there!!!

My boss is probably sitting at the airport right now....he was supposed to fly out for his vacation today. I'm only laughing at him because he laughs at everyone else when he threatens to cancel their vacations!!

I'm on Lake Huron north of Kitchener...everything is closed here...schools, roads...think we probably got a foot overnight but the wind is howling so it hard to tell. Visibility is nil on the roads.

Wow, I'm glad he is OK. We're in Queens, NY and my DH said it was a complete sheet of ice getting to the subway this morning - he has to walk about 10 blocks.
