to go to Tweetsie Railroad (small amusement park) this summer. We have taken them several times.

My DD7 said, "Paw Paw, if you go to Disney World, I'm in." My MIL said we have spoiled our children by taking them to WDW.

Oh Well!

Yeah, you're really rascals, scoundrels and villians!!! (hehe) I used to live in Blowing Rock and have to be honest......WHY, oh WHY would anyone visit there if any other place was a possibility? When I was little (eons ago) I even thought it was lame! Has your MIL ever visited DW herself? I'm guessing not or surely she'd understand your DD's logic! Hope you and all your family return soon to DW for a truly FABULOUS time and leave the cowboys and Indians in the dust!!!!:teeth:

lol kids are funny.

My parents took me to Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mountain and the Land of Oz when I was 7. My fave was the Land of Oz. That place was so cool.

I don't feel that we spoil our children by taking them to WDW. I loved taking my dd Ashli when she was younger (and I'll love taking her this year too, her love for Disney hasn't diminished!).

One thing did run through my head though as I read your post and I really hope I don't offend you by even suggesting it but I did wonder if maybe your dd's response wasn't as kind and tactful as it might have been. I know when I offer something to one of my neices or nephews and they reject it and instead ask for something larger/more expensive I do not like it. It feels as if they are rejecting what I am offering because it's not good enough and they are ungrateful for it.

Since you didn't really relate the whole conversation between your dd and her grandfather here I am in no way saying this was the case and I am not criticising you or your dd. I just wanted to offer another point of view.

No, my ILs have never been to WDW. I am hoping to share the magic with them in Dec. I'm having a hard time convincing my husband to invite his parents.

I loved Land of Oz also. It was so much fun.

Keli, my ILs weren't offended. They laughed knowing that Tweetsie RR could never live up to WDW. My daughter has a bad habit of saying exactly what is on her mind. We've been working on that with her. I tell her that she may be hurting someone's feelings and she says that she's not suppose to lie.

My MIL also said that we had spoiled our kids by taking them to Disney too many times. She was being totally serious too.
She said Nothing else will be good enough for them anymore
Well excuse me but they also love the simple things in life such as camping, canoeing, etc.

That made me LOL. I remember my dd Ashli's confusion on that issue too.

Aww, come on now! Tweetsie is worth it just for the nostalgia factor. An amusement park that ENCOURAGES you to bring a picnic lunch to eat in the park? And when is the last time you saw a Tilt-O-Whirl or real-live ferris wheel? Now, I totally agree that it is not anywhere in the same league as Disney. But, we can go to Tweetsie for the day for under $100 and sleep at home. Plus my dd's had a great time and our older dd had already been to Disney twice by then!

I have a soft spot in my heart for those old time attractions. I love Rock City and have very fond memories of Santa Claus Land in Indiana. My grandparents used to drive us up there for the day when we were visiting them in KY. I miss Ocean World in Ft. Lauderdale too. Ah well, it is a changing world. I wonder how long Tweestie will be around.

Ellster,

We love Tweetsie. The cowboys still scare me when they jump on the train! But, the kids have been many times and have only been to WDW twice.

We also have to eat at the Daniel Boone Inn when we go to Boone. Their breakfast is too die for! We've never done lunch or dinner but I understand it is excellent.

Tweetsie was having some dispute with a developer because some of the RR tracks are on someone else's property. They now have a haunted train ride in October.
