So after seeing the Sanity in a Box buffy made I thought this would be a great present for my aunt - one of those women who has everything and needs nothing. Today was her birthday party, and I just got around to doing it last night - nothing like working under pressure! But I am so thrilled with how it came out. All I spent was like $2.00 for the patterned paper and it looks like a million bucks! DH was quite impressed with the "explosion" when you pull the lid off!

I forgot to take pictures before I assembled so excuse the lid on the top to keep the inner layers up.
I kept my outer layer 12 x 12, scored 4 inches from each side. Made flaps by cutting one side of the squares you normally cut off to make the cross, then folding the other side over.
Middle layer is just regular. 11.5 x 11.5, still scored at 4 inches.
Inner layer had pockets. 11x11, scored at 4 inches. Cut as I cut for the flaps, then cut along the diagonal for the pockets.
(I was following some directions I found to score all 3 layers at 4 inches - that meant the innermost layer was pretty tall. Next time I would probably rework that a little - the sides were a little disproportionate to the middle.)
Lid is 8.25 x 8.25 , scored at 2 inches along each side.
Patterned paper is by Cosmo Cricket. The pictures don't really do the colors justice.
FYI - I also made a trial one of the smaller size that the directions here http://glitteradventure.blogspot.com/2006/11/exploding-box-class.html talk about. I didn't like how small it was, so I didn't finish adding the mats, but I did discover that the smaller one does nest easily inside the larger one even with the lid on, which will be an idea I definitely use for future gifts!
