My experience with the Quick Service Dining Plan

We just returned from a week long trip to Disney, at the Fort Wilderness Campground with the Quick Service Dining Plan (QSR). All in all it was OK, but I am not too satisified with it, nor would I do it again.

First off - Children are required to order from the kids menu as stated, but their selection doesn't follow the adult fare. For instance - at MK, if you go to the counter service that has the topping bar for the burgers, they don't offer a burger for kids - duh?? Others, the selection was just a salad or PB&J. Just too hard to search for the right foods for the kids (foods they want). If we were OOP, we would have just bought them the burger they wanted off the regular menu.

Secondly - the CS places give you much different answers than each other. Some places we were told that kids couldn't have adult meals even when there were no kids offerings, other places we were told that we could use "adult credits" and get them adult meals, but no one could ever tell us how many "adult" and "child" credits we had remaining - they don't track them that way. We could not take our kids up to the stand and order adult meals for kids, but that would be dishonest, and we aren't that way.

Thirdly - with the dinner, drink, desert and 2 snacks per day - it was just too much for us. Without kids I can see using the 2 snacks for "breakfast" and then the meals, but we ate breakfast in the camper before leaving most days. We ended up bringing a lot of snacks home, which is fine, but was only to get what we had already paid for. We felt that we were bringing stuff home that we wouldn't have ordinarily done if we hadn't "paid in advance for" it with the dining plan. Plus to get a "desert" at every meal isn't normal for us. We could substitue and get other things, but once again, it is something we wouldn't normally spend the money to get, or food that we would need.

All in all, I think we got our value out of it, but it seemed like work having to figure out too many things (where to eat was a much more diffult decision based on the kids meal offerings, tracking how we were going to use up our "prepaid" meals, deserts and snacks) and spend our allotment of things before leaving.
Next time I'd just put it on our room charge and be happier. I like not having to think or plan. If the kids want a burger or hot dog, I'd like to go to the nearest place that has it and get it, whether it is a kids or adult meal, and not have to find where the 1 CS place in the park is that has it as a kids meal offering.

I was the one in our family that "pushed" to try the plan, but was the one that was the most dissapointed in the way it ended up working. If you have questions that I didn't cover, feel free to ask away!!

Im sorry your experience with the new plan was bad. We are trying this plan in March and Im hoping it will go well for us. We only have one child on the plan and I noticed that the offerings werent that great sometimes. I can always share with her, though, as we usually share meals between all 6 of us. I figure that she can always use it for a breakfast CS if she doesnt want the lunch or dinner offering wherever we are and split with me or her sis. Breakfast menus look like standard fare everywhere for kids.

What kind of substitutions were you offered for desserts?

Thank you for posting..it helps as I was planning on buying the quick service plan for our upcoming March vacation; but my son is a fussy eater, so I think he might not eat anything..Has anyone used the $200 GC to pay for anything??

We weren't offered any;) , but found out by asking we could substitute any side item or drink for it that you could choose with your meal anyway. For instance, we could get a bag of grapes, more fries, bottles of water or apple juice to name a few. But for the most part, it all ended up being too much.

I hope the others that do it have better experiences with it!! It just wasn't/isn't for us.

I was concerned that this may be alot of food for just me. I am traveling solo this trip but I am flying instead of driving so I won't have a car plus I am only staying 3 nites so for $90 I am hoping to spread the meals out. If I can get extra bottles of water that would be great and I could save some of my snack credits to bring home some goodies for the kids.

Thanks for the info.:)

My boy was so excited to see the giant picture of a Hot Dog at at DHS counter service place (the name escapes me at the moment) only to find out you can't get a hot dog for kids there.

Oh and I had to put up a stink to get a pizza for my kids at pizzasafari at AK

That's when i knew the dining plan was not for us.

I'm NOT questioning what you said, but when was that? Pizza shows as an option on the kids menu.

August maybe... the kids offering was pbj or a turkey roll up, they did allow me to order pizza, but only after saying a few times how it's not on the kids menu.

When We returned in Oct, pizza was properly on the menu :thumbsup2

Thank you for this report, as I am considering this as my first ever dining plan! I have a stupid question, but you sound nice, so I'm asking! Do you have to pay tax on meals you order with your dining plan? I'm trying to do the math to see if it's worth it. It's $29.99 per night, and you don't pay tax then, right? Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe you pay the tax upfront when you book the plan (as you do when booking tickets & room ressies) so the tax is not payable when you get the food.

But regardless you do NOT pay tax on the food through DDP upon receipt. That's been discussed here a few times so that I know for sure.

Tax is included in the $29.99. Not in addition to the $29.99. All the Dining Plans cover the tax, but TS meals do require you to pay the tip OOP now. That lends to some of the tax confusion I think.
