It seems insignificant with the hurricane coming down in Florida, but since you all seem to have a soft spot for pets, I thought I'd mention it.
Ranger is my 5 year old Golden. Tuesday he threw up twice (maybe more, but only twice after I got home from work and I didn't find anything else). Yesterday he threw up two more times. It was (turn away if you have a weak stomach) all yellow bile and all slimy--very hard to clean up, just dripped right out of the paper towels. He was also drooling a lot and drinking water, but not eating that I could tell.
I called the vet and they said to take him off food until today and give him only mild food today. My mom came and picked him up (I was at school) and made him some rice, but he wouldn't eat it and threw up twice at their house too. She took him to my vet and I met her there right after school. The vet thinks it's Kennel cough, which is kind of like strep for dogs. He had a slight fever. He's on an antibiotic and another pill to stop the vomiting.
Poor guy, he is all nervous, doesn't like being sick. I was just so worried it was that thing where the stomach gets kinked up, I'm kind of glad it's just something to treat with antibiotics!
The bad thing is he spent a few hours with Mom's dog, and if it's contagious she will get it--and they are dogsitting my sister's dog this weekend too, so she might get it as well.
I wish I knew where my dog got it--he hasn't been to the groomer in a month, and is a house dog.

Oh, poor baby!

When a Golden or a Lab won't eat, you KNOW they feel bad. :(

I hope the meds work fast, and that Ranger's feeling good again real soon.

My chocolate lab, Kadiemonster and my pug, Ziggy StarDust (my name sake) are sending a whole bunch of pixie dust your way! and maybe a few shakes of the tail!

I hope Ranger gets better real soon- keep us posted!

My Lab eats anything that isn't tied down. So, I am certain that your Golden isn't feeling well at all.

I hope he is on the mend soon.

Oh poor baby. I am so sorry that he isn't feeling good. Give him a hug from his Auntie Theresa.

Kennel cough is *highly* contagious. We once rescued a dog that had it. We had two other dogs at the time but they didn't get it because we get them the kennel cough vaccine yearly along with rabies shot.

Definitely nasty stuff but the antibiotics should do the trick. The kennel we use requires the vaccine but after nursing a dog through kennel cough I would never not get my dog vaccinated against it again.

You say your dog is an inside dog but I assume he goes outside to take care of business. He could have picked it up from another dog in the neighborhood even if on the other side of a fence. Your mom should probably get her dog in to see the vet too.

Hope your furbaby is feeling better soon.

The good thing is, you caught it early and took him right to the vet. Monty Dog got kennel cough when he was a baby, except his turned into pnuemonia and he was very sick for several days. He could barely move. And he made it. :)

Ranger will make it too! :) I wish him a speedy recovery. Just make sure he keeps on his meds, and try to get him to eat.

Do you know if your mom's dog has had a shot for kennel cough? Monty dog gets a shot for it. I'd have her run her dog by the vets, just to be sure.

Keep us posted.

I am not a vet but I truly doubt that this is kennel cough - I suggest you take Ranger to another vet (preferably one that was recommended by a relative, friend. . .)

It sounds to me like he has some sort of virus, perhaps worm related. My in-laws's basset hound, Esther, had a serious problem with very similar symptoms (throwing up yellow bile/mucous, not eating, lethargic, losing weight) and it turned out to be some sort of disease that was easily treatable with an antibiotic - she was back to normal within about a week. If I can remember the name of the illness, I will let you know.

DH and I have two terriers who we love as our children - spoiled as heck so we know how horrible it is to go through this - take care and let us know how Ranger makes out.

I hope that Ranger is all better soon. My dog did that when she was in ketoacidosis from insulin dependent diabetes. I sure hope Ranger isn't diabetic :(

I do hope Ranger feels better soon, Robin. Always a bummer when our fur family is out of sorts.

Hope your fur baby is feeling better soon. It is so hard to have a sick pup.

Poor baby. I hope he's better soon.

hope your doggie gets well quick, dogs have a soft spot on my heart

Update--he seems a little better this morning--he was making a throat clearing sound yesterday that sounded like a hippo in labor--that's the only way I can describe it!
He woke me up at 5AM to go outside. I'm going to give him his meds before I leave for work in 20 min.
