I am so happy. My doggie, Frege, is now a certified Good Canine Citizen. :) He just passed the exam an hour ago. He has to go through a series of exercise, and do exactly what is required. Only 2 dogs out of the whole class got the cert. I'm so proud of him.

Just wanna share. :bounce:

Congratulations to you and Frege!

That's great, I'd be proud too. You must have worked hard with Fergie for him to accomplish this, good job!

I put him through boot camp last night, but he wouldn't do half the exercises. We were very lucky. I think Frege knows it's an exam when he's in the classroom. Shelties are smart. (Poodles too, that's the other doggie who passed).

Plus, I rubbed a lot of bacon on my hand, so Frege definitely pays attention.

I know how much work goes into training,I'm currently training my Dobie-girl for obedience and rally competitions. I love the bacon trick!!!!! I will definitely share this idea in training tonight!!!

Congratulations! It is SO nice to have a well-behaved dog - even if he's not well-behaved all of the time - one who is trained so you can control him in public situations!

IMHO, more people should make the effort to train their dogs!

Good job to both you and your pup!!!!!!

That's great! Congratulations to both you and Frege!

Frege actually is not a pup. He's 8 years old boy (the oldest doggie in class). We rescued him 5 months ago. I have absolutely no problem with him. He's the sweetest thing (not sure why he's on the street).

Let me tell you..... Frege is the best thing happened to me. I have always wanted a dog and always wanted to adopt one. But he exceeds all my expectations, and he returns my love x times as much. I have the best doggie in the whole wide world.

If you want to see his pictures, please go to http://Photos.Yahoo.com/Adatmak and click on pets. :)

Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

What an adorable dog!! We just adopted a dog today, I hope we have as much luck as you have:D

Hi,

What an accomplishment for you and your boy. He is so handsome and obviously a smart one too.

Your cat is a cute, too.

You should send his picture into Dog Fancy Magazine. They love to do articles on rescues..

...my trainer was really upset!!! She told me that was cheating!
I thought it was a good tip, guess not!!! I won't be using the bacon trick!!!

Congrats to you and the pooch! We have two good citizens, so I know what they have to go through to earn their dogree. ;) :bounce: :bounce:
You will always be glad you did this.
One of the tests ours had to go through was the sit and stay out of the owners sight for two minutes. Our young one was one year old (or less) and we thought she might not do it. But she passed. Our other dog would sit and stay with ANYTHING around her -- even a forklift!
(We had our classes in Petsmart.)
Those classes were well worth their money. And the dogs loved them too. :)

Sounds good! Congratulations!!

Airhead,
That's strange, cause my trainer specifically told us that's ok. She said no treats during the test, but she doesn't care if we give them treats before tests, or rub anything anywhere. :)

Luv2Roam,
I agree the sit-out-of-sight test is tough for most doggies. 2 of the dogs failed because they made way too much noise during this part. They were growling like they're giving birth! My dog has no problem. He actually would stay and go home with anyone. Lucky me.
