What is she thinking. Now I'm worried sick. I called the vet and they told me to give her a piece of bread. Hopefully the paperclip will bind to that and pass normally.

It was a small paperclip and when I tried to get it out of her mouth she swallowed it.

She had just eaten her breakfast and then the bread so she had a full stomach. I think that will help but I am still so worried.

Anyone every have this happen?

Our dalmatian ate a popsicle stick.....I mean gulped in one bite down it went......the vet said it will pass.......watch for blood in the stools and that was it......she passed it ......we called it poop on a stick.......a poopsicle.....she lived to tell about it.....hahaha.....

Yea, I'm hopin that the bread and her dog food will bind to it and pass

Our beloved black lab once ate two pounds of frozen hamburger, a box of staples and a pound of hershey's kisses - wrappers included! We were worried sick, but he was fine. It seemed he stuck to mostly stealing bread after that incident!

Try not to worry too much, but do keep an eye on her. I hope the paper clip passes and your pup is fine.

Wow, did your lab eat that all at one time :). I guess a paperclip is nothing compared to that.

Did you search through his um....doody to see if everything passed ok?

It'll all work itself out in the end. :rotfl: Sorry, couldn't resist.

Something small like that I wouldn't worry to much about it. As long as it was all curled up and no one had spread the paper clip open she should be fine.

I had a lab eat a sock.......We found it in the yard a few days later and it really wasn't in that bad of condition!

Our German Shep/Husky mix ate a pudding pop, stick included. He was fine. The vet said it would pass and it did.

Our vet recommends the bread trick too-but not just one piece but 4-5 pieces. DD was a vet tech and says that giving them lots of bread will make a "bread ball" in their stomachs and hopefully incorporate the object so it passes easily. also look for vomiting and straining to poo. We spent $1000.00 on our lab for the removal of Rubber Duckie!!

The paper clip was not fully open. It wasn't fully closed either but I dont think the jagged edges were sticking out.

She had just eaten her breakfast (1 1/2 cups of food) followed by 2 pieces of bread about 10 minutes after it happened

I'd be willing to bet that dogs probably eat more of these types of things than we realize. Usually it's fine. Keep an eye on things :magnify: and hopefully it'll work itself out. ;)

Yup! All at one time - in the space of about 15 minutes. I went out to speak to the mailman... when i came back he looked SOOOO guilty. I found half the wrapping from the burger, the top off the staple box and about 5 staples and the candy bag - without a rip in it - like he just picked it up and opened it like we would!

We didn't pay too close attention to his poo.. more to him. Watch for discomfort, straining, loss of color in his mouth (internal bleeding). He was fine. None the worse for wear at all, other than he never again wen't for meat or chocolate. He could - and would - steal bread in the blink of an eye though!

I think I'd be more worried about socks and dental floss than a paper clip, especially if it's closed.

Chloe once swallowed a jumbo-size Carmex lid, that was too large to scope out. It just sat in her stomach and wouldn't budge. Finally they had to surgically remove it, since they were concerned about blood poisoning. That was fun on the pocketbook.

Like someone else mentioned, dogs probably eat more things than we ever realize and they pass on through. :)

My beagle at so many things and never, luckily, had trouble passing them. Once he ate a whole chocolate cake and a tub of sour cream. :rotfl: He also was known for his incognito way of eating a lb. of chocolate candies out of a candy box without anyone knowing. He was really sneaky. Never, luckily got ill.

Once we had an oven fire and I set the broiler pan out in the garage covered in Easy Off, to get the grime off of it. Stupid me, I left it out there.

Well, my beagle licked the whole thing clean and never even got sick. I swear those dogs have stomachs of steel. :scared1:

I found a chewed up bra that my DD left on the bathroom floor that was basically intact except for the hook section. I looked everywhere for it, hoping all the while that my dachshund puppy (about 5 pounds at the time) hadn't eaten it. I kept a close watch on her every time she went out and 3 days later, there it was...the entire elastic section, still hooked together.

When my cocker spaniel was a puppy we gave her own of those toys that was made up of a whole lot of string. Well she decided to eat it one day, and for several days she was passing string. Occasionally the string would kinda hang out of her and would need a little pull. Well one night at 11:30 my husband gave some string a tug and the dog yipped. Long story short somehow she had a needle trying to come out of her along with the string. We had to take her to the emergency vet. They were able to get the needle out, and put her on antibiotics. The vet couldnt believe that she had apparently eaten this needle and it had traveled all the way through.

Also the vet made us take her temperature for a week just to make sure she wasn't getting an infection. Yikes!

The needle was one coated in teflon and I never had any like that so we still assume it must have been caught in the dog toy.
