My SO was walking our dog Buster, and another dog that had dug out from its yard (we know who it belongs to) went for him. They were walking in front of the other dog's house when it happened, so it was feeling territorial. Buster is a short-legged beagle, so he isn't very big. I don't know what kind the other one was, but it's definitely bigger. Buster's ear is bitten and torn right through in the middle, and he's got a big chunk out of his neck where the other dog went for his throat. My SO got several bites and gouges in his hands and arms pulling the other dog off ours, too, so they're both in pretty bad shape.
The other dog hasn't had its shots, and is now in quarantine for 10-14 days. My SO was already on antibiotics for something else, and Buster has had all of his shots, so both of them should be fine. They're pretty sore, though, and I can tell Buster is hurting. He's moving really stiffly.
Please keep them both in your thoughts. The other dog, too. He's not a bad dog...from his point of view, he was just protecting his territory. It's not his fault his owners didn't secure him well enough or give him his shots, and now he has to be away from his home and his family for 2 weeks because of their negligence (yes, I'm one of those people who believes there are no bad dogs...just bad owners!).
Thanks.
