My Disney "shock"!

there's nothing like climbing onto BTMRR with 2" heels on...THAT is one thing about some women I'll never understand.

me? shower/LIGHT makeup/wet hair stays wet/shorts/tee shirt or tank top (plain) and my soccer slides and i'm ready for the park!

seriosuly - getting dressed for up PI at night or a nice dinner at Epcot at night is one thing...but hauling it around MK in heels?

heheheh

Minnie's Mate, I am sorry that fat people offend you but sometimes we have to wear bathing suits too!

You must not have read my post closely. I was not offended by a large woman in a one piece bathing suit, I was shocked to see a large senior citizen with gobs of make up on wearing a one piece bathing suit in the Magic Kingdom !!!

A large person in a bathing suit does NOT offend me...but come on, there is a time and a place for everything and inside The Magic Kingdom is not the time or place for anyone to wear a bathing suit, large or small.

Oops, I reacted without reading the posts that followed on Page 2. Thanks for pointing out the same thing I just pointed out again.

BTW, I would have felt that a 5'-7", 110 LB pretty young thing would have been dressed inappropriately if she had been wearing nothing but a bathing suit inside the Magic Kingdom.

I also don't get why so many hairy shouldered men think its a good look to wear a tank top in the parks and especially in the Crystal Palace or other buffets. I'm a hairy chested man, but I don't wear tank tops and I don't think tank tops are a good look for any man over 30. Not to mention, a tee shirt under a cotton short sleve shirt is cooler (temperature wise not aesthetically) than having the sun bake down on your skin all day in the Florida sun and humidity.

confessions of a hairy man...

I agree about the hairy men and I'm one of them. I can grow hair everywhere except the top of my head. I have the hairy shoulders and unfortunately also a hairy back. I wear t-shirts in the swimming pool and at the waterparks because my hairyness (or is it hairiness) embarrasses me. I don a shaved head and shave all around my neck so hair doesn't poke out of my collar. I've thought of shaving my back before going but I'm afraid that it would itch all week as it started to grow back.......

I always remember that I am going to a theme park and therefore I dress accordingly. I don't want to offend other people, my family or most importantly myself.

Oh, no! I am one of those who "dress up" for the parks!!!! I do not wear heels, but a very nice pair of shorts and top (nothing showing). My hair is done and I wear a full face of makeup (which I touch up for the pool). I do wear "Bare Escentuals", so the makeup looks very natural (not cakey). I do make my DH wear NICE (pressed) t-shirts in the daytime and a polo at night. At night I sometimes wear a nicer blouse or a dress, if I'm going to dinner at a resort.

At the pool.... I wear a bikini and a sarong with sandals. Yes, I get VERY weird looks at the All-Stars, but felt right at home at AKL. I guess living in FL, I am very comfortable wearing shorts and bikinis.

I have seen PLENTY of young (an old) girls down here wearing very short tops with all of their blubber hanging out! I can't imagine what they will look like in their thirties after kids! I don't even feel comfortable wearing my stomach out like that. As for the names on the butts, it' not popular down here, but I've seen a few at the mall.

First of all I consider myself conservative. I have an dd8 who has 2 pairs of pants with writing on the butt (1=SKATER 2=ANGEL)
I think if someone is a pervert it is not the shorts that will provoke them, it could be a pair of bermuda shorts that would do the same thing...... My daughter is 8 and does not wear them to try to get people to look at her butt she wears them because she likes them..... According to everyone on this board someone better call the authorities on me for my lack of parenting skills....
All I have to say it "to each his own"
I am not an over weight person but have family members that are and the other thing I have noticed by reading the posts on this thread is the predjudism against over weight people. (words like blubber, flab, disgusting) Do you think that people wake up one day and say "Hey I think I will just eat until I am huge so people will judge me and make me feel less than human and talk about me like I am not even there"

I confess that I too am a card-carrying member of the bad parent club since I allow my DD9 to wear a pair of shorts with the word "Dancer" on the tush. They are normal length and not the least bit tight or revealing. Let's try to separate harmless words like this from a cuss word on someone's hynie, ok?

Those of us of a certain age ought to remember that there was a time when leaving the house without a girdle and hose was considered risque, blue jeans were for bad girls, the Beatle's hair was too long, etc.... Fashions do change and while I will not allow my 9 yo to wear clothes that are immodest or revealing, I will allow her to indulge in clothes that are fashoinable for her age group. Having said this, I cannot stand to shop in the malls anymore bc all the clothes are awful, and even the 9 yo agrees. We're Gap and Old Navy all the way now!

More on topic, the most shocking thing we ever saw was a woman in a thong bathing suit at TL. She looked pretty good in it, and knew it too. DH remarked that aside from the inappropriateness of it in a family park, it had to have hurt going down those slides. LOL!!!!!!

I'd find a 110 lb. 20 yo just as shocking as a 200 lb. 60 yo. Bathing suits are just that, suits for bathing. Not for public. There's a reason hotels ask guests wear coverups in places other than the pool. :D Should it be any different for the MK? How about WalMart? Is that suitable?

Two weeks ago, I saw a 15/16 year old girl in the lobby of the Polynesian. She was wearing a string bikini, with more string than bikini, around the lobby. No cover-up, no sarong, no sandals. She was a very good looking young lady with a knock out figure. But it was very inappropriate to be walking around the lobby. People and children were stopping and starting at her. I guess that this is what she wanted.

Boy, I have jsut sat and read all this thread and it has made me greatful that I have 2 sons and no daughters, I appreciate that it is difficult when all the friends are wearing certain things, but as said before there is a time and a place for bikini's etc. and walking around a theme park in one is totally inappropriate, even if you have a fantastic figure, IMHO less is more and someone dressed in a lovely pair of shorts and a tshirt/top can on many occassions make them look more sexy!! ( couldn't think of another word to express it) than someone walking around in a string bikini leaving nothing to the immagination. This is not a jealous thing I would love to have that kind of figure again, but what are they teaching the younger generation. I am not really offended by larger ladies wearing tight illfitting clothes as embaressed for them! - I really wonder if they think that they look good - do they see something different when they look at themselves in a mirror than we see when looking at them - and I would hope that if I ever thought of going out insomething that ill fitting that my DH would tell me!

Speaking of butt wear. I saw a basketball team-boys-wearing "Hoops" on their behinds. Unfortunately for one young fellow his "H" got stuck in his crack and it said "oops" instead! Everyone got a good chuckle out of it. I told my husband that butt wear is out for our team after seeing that.LOL :p

It's kind of making me laugh to think about girls wanting to wear shorts with decorations on the seat. It reminds me of the ruffled panties my mom used to make me wear when I was really little; they had ruffles and lace across the tush, and were meant to show under the short dresses that little girls wore in that era. (I just gave my age away, didn't I, LOL!) I was forever getting caught wearing them backward, because if the decoration was supposed to be for me, I wanted to wear it where I could see it!

Finally, my mom explained to me that the ruffles were not for me to see, they were for everyone else to see, that it was supposed to be that way. It sounds to me as if these shorts are a modern take on the same principle; regardless of the age of the wearer, it is not the wearer who is meant to see those decorations. Is it sexual? Maybe, maybe not, but it is obviously meant to attract the attention of others.
