My Disney "shock"!

Don't want to sound as if I'm disagreeing with any of you b/c I'm not. I too am a bit modest and would like others to keep more of themselves to themselves.

But some of these "mature" women (not the little girl, oh my!) may have been influenced to dress "inappropriately" by their DH's. I know many husbands want their wives to cover up in public, but I know many others who think its "sexy" to "flaunt what you got." My own DH is a case in point, and I consistently resist. My cellulite is my own!

Anyway, just a thought.

LOL, I love this line!!:p

Actually I feel about the same with the same kind of DH.
He loves for me to wear short skirts and I am almost 40 (I didn't mean that meant to say 20 LOL) and don't always feel comfortable in a short skirt. My memory is going to so I have a hard time remembering not to bend over LOL!
I feel like I have found the answer to this though. When we do family things I dress like Mom and when we go away for a weekend just me and DH I dress for him. We stay in a lot on those trips;)
Most men do like to see skin. It is there carnivore nature I think!

As much as my 9 y/o dd wants to wear those shorts with 'messeges' on the behind, they are not allowed in our house!! Nope, no way, no how. And although she would maybe like to have a much briefer bathing suit, she has a LandsEnd tankini that is perfect for her. Easy to wear and get off in the bathrooms. However I have a question regarding park wear....I agree with the whole bathing suits belong at the resorts argument. Is it okay (in your opinions) to wear one with a pair of shorts? I have several tankinis, quite modest with nice tops, that I would love to wear in the parks with a pair of shorts. I figured that my top would look better than a lot of the so called tops that some ladies wear. Any thoughts??

A girl that could hardly have been 12 years old...a bit on the hefty side, wearing those short, short athletic shorts under her belly (yes belly hanging out) and the words "100% *****"

I saw that same girl last week too. I couldn't believe it either. I thought Disney Security asked people with clothing like that to either leave the park or put on a replacement item of clothing to change in to.

I have always hated those shorts--my 2 girls (11 and 9) would not be caught dead in those crazy things--thank goodness --but even if they wanted to I would assert my parental authority and give themthe simple "you are not leavin this house looking like that!" (I would never buy them in the first place) Just the same with my 12 yr old son and the whole "pants pulled down to your knees thing"--no way on that either--I don;t go for the "everyone wears them" --"You are not everyone" is what I say= I think that the people who allow their kids to look like this are on a different wavelength than me anyway--I just dont get that --:Pinkbounc

Goofy for Tink, IMHO, I think the Lands End Tankini top w/ shorts would probably be fine. It would have to fit properly, etc.. I just don't understand why you would want to wear it? I find a cotton top much cooler and more comfortable than a spandex top that hugs me and gives no support. That's 1/2 the reason for my shock, why be so uncomfortable?!

As for the wives with the DH's liking their DW's to show instead of stow.... we are models of proper behavior for our DD's. If we dress like we're ready for action ;) then what will our DD's do? Why put temptation in front our DS's who are struggling with the hard lesson of restraint?

My dd has a pair of the shorts that have words on the rump part. I think that she looks cute. I am very conservative and a conservative dresser. Hers say "gymnast" and she wears them over her leotard when she goes to gymnastics. I think it is perfect. She gets to wear what is fashionable and when it is appropriate. I guess that I will also admit that she wears a 2 pc bathing suit, worked especially great when she has to go to the bathroom. Oh, I didn't mention that she is 6. A little young for these things, some might say yes, but there is a time and place for everything. I can be a cool mom and still get my way, love the power of compromise....

house_of_princesses, I like your style! We have 3 daughters and setting a good example for them is the most important thing right now! We also have 1 son. My hubby does not really need for me to "dress hot" anyway, he is always "hot" all by himself. We have never incouraged our kids to buy, were, watch, or listen to "what is in style!" They really don't even ask for that stuff, clothes, music, movies, etc... They will probably never be the "popular" kids at school, but that is fine with us!!! As for clothing with offensive wording, I too am shocked that Disney did not do something about it. We really don't want our kids seeing that. YUCK

carone--I agree with you--give in a little when you can-it is a mistake to never let your kids have their own choices/decisions--we can let them know how we feel about something but ultimately we cannot make their decisions for them--just guide them along and hope for the best!!:Pinkbounc

I would most certainly find what you explained as "shocking". It seems as if we have totally lowered our standards of appropriateness to the lowest common denominator.
Yes, the extreme fat hangover is tacky! Period end of story!
I can't even think of ANY comment on the actual wording would be plausible.
I personally think purposely drawing the eye to anyone's bottom is tacky, especially a young girl. Flame away but I guarantee my 2 DD's will not be allowed to dress that way (even if they wanted).

My 15 year old DS and I were amazed to see (and smell) a man smoking a joint in Tomorrowland last October! We just looked at one another in shock to make sure that we were actually seeing what we thought. He wasn't even trying very hard to hide it!Amazing!

I was shocked, this visit, at how many women get "dressed up" for the parks. Full, heavy, makeup, heels (YES, heels  ), hair done just right, what's up with that?
I don't know about anyone else, but when I get ready for the parks, I shower, brush my teeth, put on sunscreen and chapstick (with spf) get dressed and go. Oh, ya, I wear my Disney baseball cap!!!:p
DD's and DH samething.

All I can say is WORD! I did the Walk for Hunger several weeks ago here in Boston, and I swore that if I saw another girl wearing those god-awful booty shorts, I would pull them down! I mean, if these girls are so set on wearing shorts that as tiny as underwear, they might as well be wearing actual underwear!

Now, now...Just because you don't happen to agree with it, doesn't give you the right to force your opinion on others. It's not up to you to play mother to everyone elses children. Sure you can keep your kids from doing it, but that's where it ends.

That being said, what you described seems pretty awful to look at, and I don't blame you for feeling that way. But just do what I'd do, and don't look at it.

My hubby does not really need for me to "dress hot" anyway, he is always "hot" all by himself

LaceeMouse, ROFL!! :p Mine doesn't need any extra help, either!! And it's far from likely that I'm going to try and bring on any extra "heat" at MK!!

We went over Easter, and our group of over 100 went to Cocoa Beach,
The next day, many of the girls wore shorts to Epcot that said "Ron, Jon".

Luckly one of the teachers said this is a family park, "Ron and Jon" cannot go along. The girls looked miffed.

I thought at the Disney Parks, bikini tops were not allowed. We saw a couple of girls walking around with bikini swim suit tops and short shorts.

Good for the teacher!! Not easy to stand up to a group of vacation minded teens!

Perhaps it was a male CM who let them through the gates? ;)

I read on rec.arts.disney.parks a long time ago about CM's having to tell some Brazilian girls to put their tops back on! They were walking around topless  It is interesting to me the differences in cultures! This country sure has stuck by its Puritan roots. ;)

I am a pretty conservative dresser (I just don't like people staring at me) but if someone is old enough more power to them. I do agree WDW is a family place and tiny bikinis should be kept to the beach. Tacky, crude t-shirts are rude also. I don't see the big deal with the butt saying shorts. I think they are cute.

Minniemomof4:
We we@ DL some years ago over by the Fantasyland Theater bathrooms & encountered 2 guys smoking pot. They were just hanging out back there thinking no one would know.
Well, we told a young CM ( that was all we could find) & the poor girl looked scared. The guys we described were big biker-type.
She called for help, but the guy @ security said they were busy & told US to go get those guys.
Well.....we said for the girl to be careful, thank you & walked stright to the TH to complain.
We spoke w/an officer, but never really got an answer as to what they do in that instance & if they do anything @ all.
Oh well.

Not all husbands want their wives to flaunt what they have. I have a beautiful wife and we are both are happy for her to dress modestly.

I do have to say, though, that over the years as the discounts at Disney have become more numerous, the clientele seems to have fallen. Last September, there we three guys in the pool at the Wilderness Lodge that looked like Willie Nelson. I have never seen so many tattoos. One guy had cut-offs. I think they asked him to change.

I have seen these women that wear high heels at Magic Kingdom. Where do they come from?
