The Android MDE app, version 2, actually 2.1, was released yesterday on Google Play.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.disney.mdx.wdw.google&hl=en

The update, all around...performance, features, fluidity, mapping, 3D visuals, searching, everything,...is almost startling. I know that seems gushing, but update and try, you'll see.

I think the Apple update came out a couple weeks ago, in reverse to the previous major update when the Android version was first updated that time. Well worth the wait. Go to Google Play, or the link above, update and give it a whirl, I think you will like it.

I pushed that upgrade through! I'm wondering if this will allow those in the parks to make the 4th FP or if that will be another update.

I hope it works now. In May, my moto x app was not able to change FP+ reservations, only view them. Thankfully, we had my wife's old iPhone that could get on wifi and make changes.

Thanks Dan! I don't have a smart phone but DH does so going to have to ask him to try it out once we hit our 60 day mark next week!:cool1:

I have to update my phone to get the new IOS system to get the new update. As it is I'm not able to sign up for any FP+

Thanks for letting me know. Now if only Disboards app could be updated to fix login issues.
Both the app as well as these desktop forums. Both painfully slow, with the additional logout headache with the app.

This upgrade, by itself, will not allow 4th and beyond Fastpasses. I am confident that will come some time in the future. Makes no sense to continue long term with the kiosks exclusively.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I still didn't get a BOG reservation but at least I was able to check a little faster.

The app seems to be a great improvement over the past version. Everything happens much faster and it certainly looks more polished. There are 2 main issues I see in my first few minutes of playing with it:

1. Disney still doesn't allow it to be installed on Android tablets

2. Any wait times that are over 60 minutes now just say "60+" in the app. That really makes it useless during crowded times to plan where to go. If 7DMT is 65 minutes I might go across the park to get in line. If it is 180 I certainly wouldn't. Now there is no way to know. The old version of the app always showed the exact posted wait time.

Grrrr. I updated the app today. Now it crashes every time I try to change the date under My Plans.

I'm on my phone - a Samsung Galaxy S3.

Is this happening to anyone else?

:wizard: Can you use the MDE app on a Kindle Fire? I've searched and found articles that say you can and some that say you can't. What's the deal? :confused3

I noticed that about the longer waits too. I am not a fan. I might wait in a line for 65 mins but not 180.

Agreed; the app works much better now but I want to know exactly how long the wait is; 65 minutes and 120 minutes are very different.

I have an S3 and it has been flawless. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have always preferred TP's Lines app for wait times, shows posted and expected times. Also, Josh's wait time link shows posted. I just checked now, 8:40 AM EDT, mine train shows 60+ on MDE, 90 posted on Easy's and 90 posted on Lines with 73 expected.

Other than the wait times, the new MDE looks like a home run.

Glad I renewed my Touring Plans membership then. Gives me something else to stalk for the next month too. LOL

/ respectfully snipped for brevity

I noticed that, like the previous version, I couldn't install this app to my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 tablet. The application works flawlessly on my Galaxy S4 phone, however. Problem is, my middle aged eyes do not want to squint while I'm in the parks trying to figure out when my next ADR is...so I need this application on a larger screen.

What I've done is to download an app extractor application from Google Play on my phone, then extract the MyDisneyExperience Application's APK file on my smartphone. Then do the following: Connect both devices to your computer. Then transfer the extracted APK file to your tablet via the computer. Navigate to the file on your tablet, double click on the icon, choose to install the application, and VOILA, MDE on your Android tablet! A few more steps, but totally worth it.

I just checked to make sure that the application works on my Android tablet for my December WDW trip and it is flawless. And...most definitely an upgrade from the previous version.

For those of you who want to install this onto your Android tablet, if you can get your hands on the APK file, you can install it the way I did (this is also known as "side-loading").

I am an IT Security analyst with a degree in Digital Forensics, so I'm not talking out my keister here. As a security geek, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the following: Make sure that wherever you get your APK file from, it's trustworthy - i.e., google play, extracted from your own or a trusted friend's phone, etc. Don't just grab one off the interwebz at random. The bad guys LOVE doodling with these types of files and repackaging them with malware. They will post those tainted apps so good folks like you download their crud.

PS - I am not even TRYING to install this on my Kindle Fire as it will bork up at light speed. I have called Disney about this issue in the past, and they assured me that they have no intention of porting this application to work with Kindle Fire devices. The reason is that Amazon uses a forked / modified version of Android and it's a big pain in the butt to rewrite the application just for an "off brand". I'm sure the return on investment is pretty poor.
