My Dishwasher Died :o(

I'm not letting anyone use any dishes, silverware or glasses unless they plan to handwash them themselves. I HATE handwashing dishes. Looks like we will be going out to eat tonight. ;o)

We're going out today to find a new one. Luckily DH just got an online subscription to Consumer Reports for Christmas. We knew the dishwasher was going to die soon. I'm sure the fridge will be next. Tip: When you build a new house go with the upgraded appliance package. We got the cheapest pieces of crap on the market. I'm actually surprised the dishwasher lasted this long (7 years).

What would you reccommend in the $500-$700 range. I'm leaning towards a Kenmore (stainless steel)?

My dishwasher died a few weeks ago....and it was my fault.......I dropped a plate one day and it broke ....and also I broke a glass a few months ago....I thought I got all the pieces out but I didnt......the glass somehow got into the motor and cooked it......SOOOO

We looked on line for a similiar model and got the same one with black panels and they delivered the next day and took the dead duck with them....that was why we had them deliver.....free disposal ...

I am learning how the new one works.....a little different...

I have a stainless steel (exterior & interior) Jenn Aire that is SILENT. We have 2 dishwashers in the kitchen (one by the sink & one in the island) and they can both be running at the same time & you can't hear a thing. We open them while running almost every day because we don't hear them. They clean well & have a ton of cycles & options. So if noise is an issue for you, check out the Jenn Aire! We got them 5 years ago & they were about $800 each, so they may have gone down in price by now.

The only dishwasher I've ever been completely satisfied with is our Bosch. We did a lot of research before we bought ours a few years ago and kept coming back to the Bosch. Glad we did as we've had zero problems with it.

My dishwasher has been broken for 3 months. This is the 2nd one we have replaced (you have to special order the kind we have to fit). I can't bring myself to replace it yet because of the way they last (plus cost more due to special size). I'm just about to break down though!!!!

Ours died right before Thanksgiving and we had a bunch of people over. Good thing they didn't mind helping with dishes.

We finally got ours fixed to the tune of about $350. We thought about just buying a new one, but we couldn't find the same stainless finish as the rest of our appliances, so we had it repaired.

We have a Kenmore Elite...run...don't walk....away from it! It was well rated on Consumer Reports and I hate the dumb thing! Glasses always have "stuff" in the bottom. The seal failed after 6 months and I had water everywhere on my new kitchen floor! The utensil holder has been replaced twice as it keeps breaking (and NO, I don't "drop" utensils into it). The repairmen have told me to use liquid dishwashing detergent to avoid the "stuff" in the bottom of my glasses....then the next one told me to use powdered....and (you guessed it) the most recent one told me to use the tablets. None of them have gotten rid of the "gunk" in the bottom of the glasses.

I have to fully rinse off every plate and wipe them down before I put them in the diswasher....soak my utensils and wipe out every glass...and then I still have to wash the glasses by hand 95% of the time.

I've had it for 3 years and I'm ready to go out a buy a new one! We spent about $850 on this one...and the $250 one it replaced worked better!

Long and short is that after having a crappy dishwasher from Kenmore....and a Kenmore washer that went through 3 transmissions before I bought my GE one, I'll never, ever, ever buy another Kemore appliance again!

I second the good review on the Bosch dishwasher. This is our second one. We had one in our previous home, and when we built this house we're in now, I selected the Bosch. It really does clean the dishes well.

We bought a Bosch about a year ago and are extremely happy with how it cleans, but I don't like how flimsy the bottom rack is. It has "adjustable" pieces in it that don't hold up very well. I think we paid about $650 for it. Perhaps the more expensive model would have a better rack. Can't say enough good things about its cleaning ability; it's awesome.

I have been doing this too and I am fed up. I do have the insurance so I am making that call but I have tried all of the dish tabs. I cannot use anything that has bleach in it becasue I have well water so everything turned orange. I havbe a GE.

I have to talk about the "dropping" silverware thing. When I bought the insurance on my appliances I was told it covered the baskets in the fridge and freezer. I waited a long time for my new appliances so I am very careful with them. The plastic cover on teh veggie drawer broke so I called to have it replaced. Long story short............no coverage on shelves, basket adn drawers. I was irritated about that but furious when the agent told me that I was "rough" on the drawer. I will have a chat when the guy comes to check my dishwasher. I know he is not responsible but maybe he can tell me who to complain to. I hate the blame the consumer when parts are made cheaply.

It is a very common problem with this dishwasher, apparently, since the part has been backordered for three weeks. Other than that, it is fine,lol.

Sorry you have a similar problem. I agree completely about "blaming the customer" when parts are made cheaply. (Shaking head) my first brand new washing machine (when I was newly married) was a Kenmore. Had that thing through 3 houses. Hubby convinced me to leave it behind and buy a new Kenmore when we moved 5 years ago saying that the old one wasn't worth moving (even though the new one wasn't worth buying...in hindsight). Well I ran into the guy we sold our old house to just before Christmas. Our "old" washer and dryer are still running....he hasn't even had to repair them! By now they are 20 1/2 years old and still going strong!

I wonder if that's what happend to mine? My dishwasher broke Christmas week. It's the computerized display again. I got all new Maytag appliances 3 years ago and we've had every one of them serviced at least 2-3 times. I will never have another Maytag as long as I live! Thank goodness we got the service plan. We don't usually do that, but we have gotten our money back x3.

Need opinions... I have all white appliances and white cabinets. I would really like to break up all that white and get stainless steel. The problem is, while waiting for my other appliances to break down (fridge is on it's last legs, but the oven is still working pretty well) they won't match. And the even bigger problem, what happens if I can't find stainless that matches the dishwasher when I need to replace the fridge and oven? Should I just stick with white? We don't plan to be in this house forever. We'd like to move within the next 4-5 years.

What would you do?

That's an odd feature. I always turn the dishwasher on right before going to bed. I guess that model wouldn't work for me.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it beeps 3 times every 15 minutes or so. DH doesn't even hear it but I do. It is not a continuous beep.

Each state should be starting their "cash for appliances" program very shortly. Some may have already started. I believe they all received their money last fall from Washington DC to hold this program. You get money for replacing appliances with Energy Star rated models.

I'm in need of a dishwasher too. I've signed up on Sears website & they will notify me when our start is ready to begin the program. Meantime, I'm supposed to be finding the model I want to buy.

Our appliances were white when we bought our house. First we changed the dishwasher. Each year we updated an appliance. We ended up having a stainless steel refrig and dishwasher and a black oven (we plan to replace with total remodel but keep the other appliances). Each appliance is a different brand. You would not know by the color of the SS. It did not look odd when we only had a SS dishwasher. Our cabinets are not white but they are painted a light blue.
