My dining reviews from May 11 - 16, 2006 ~ WITH PICTURES!

Kona Cafe is my favorite all-around Disney World restaurant, and I really enjoyed this breakfast on our last day.

I ordered the Pineapple-Macadamia nut butter pancakes, and they were just as good as the last time:

You can see the pineapple on top of the pancakes, but what you can't see are the tiny, tender pieces of macadamia inside the pancakes. I LOVE these pancakes. I don't add any syrup to them, I love them just the way they are served.

DH had Tonga Toast for the very first time and he loved it!

This picture shows how they are served from the kitchen:

And this pictures shows what the inside of Tonga Toast looks like! (I love to see what the inside of certain foods looks like. lol)

I never add syrup to Tonga Toast, and my DH didn't feel the need to, either. Each of these dishes come with your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage.

I gave this Kona Cafe breakfast ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo because I feel it's well above a good, solid breakfast. These dishes are different, and delicious!! :goodvibes

I hope you've all enjoyed my reviews!! :sunny:

Thanks for the reviews! I'm sorry you were disappointed in BD and LeCellier. I knew the salad was so thin but was told that's how the Cobb salad is supposed to be (how it was originally created). We enjoyed it but I knew how it was. We all love fish, and ate 3 fish dishes while there, and the food was SUPURB but if you don't care for seafood, it certainly wouldn't be the right choice in restaurant.

We have avoided LeCellier for many years because my mom had a poor exp there but after reading years of great reviews on here that make it look like the best restaurant ever invented, we're gonna try it. I'm snobby about my filet, and I am suspicious of any steakhouse that covers their meat in a sauce, but I'm going to give it a fair shot and see how it compares to your exp =) Oh, and I had the cheese soup at F&WF and don't get the hype. It was very watery when I had it.

Thanks for your great reviews!

BTW, I have to agree with you on the cheese soup from Le Cellier! We didn't care for it at all :sad2: Other than that we absolutely loved Le Cellier! Sorry, you have had such bad experiences there.

I enjoyed reading your restaurant experiences and ESPECIALLY seeing the pictures of the meals before you dug in! I was leary of quite a few of those restaurants especially Marakesh but those kabobs looked great!

Thanks for the reviews and great pics! We have breakfast at Ohana on our agenda for this trip because of Lilo and Stitch and was happy to hear that that the food was good as it will be our last meal this trip. Agree with you totally about Kona, the food has always been wonderful!

Your food pictures are so good. I really enjoyed reading your reviews. I was wondering what that dish from BD was - it was so minced up, I could not recognize it!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I am sorry your meal at Le Cellier was not so great. I am really excited about eating there. We are going for lunch as we are not big beef fans. I may think twice about the cheese soup though. Maybe I will go for the shrimp appy. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Great reviews. We sure agree on the Cobb Salad and Brown Derby. Didn't care for anything there. Le Cellier, while still on our favorites list, is not as "high" on the list as it used to be. Definitely passed up by Artist Point and Grand Floridian Cafe, but we still do enjoy most of the things there.

Your meal at Jiko looked really good. I actually can't remember what I ate there as I was so sick afterward. The food still always looks and sounds so good, but I don't think my stomach could walk into there again!!! LOL

Thanks again. Great pictures.

Thank you for your great reviews and mouth watering photos. :thumbsup2
I had the pineapple pancakes at Kona and can vouch for how wonderful they are! :) Going to try the Tonga Toast next time though! Kona is also great for dinner too.
We also didn't like our Le Cellier experience as both our steaks were grissly, but may give it another chance sometime. I did love the creme brullee though!

It was my drink, and it was delicious! :sunny: I think this is what it was:

Island Sunset - A light blend of spiced rum, Malibu coconut rum, melon and peach combined with guava passion fruit juice $8.00
Is it really sweet??

Loved your reviews~Le Cellier remains one of our favs, so I am sorry you did not have a great experience. 50's PT was a bummer last July when we went there too! They changed their yummy onion rings to those big thick icky things, I am happy to hear the fried chicken is still good though!

Now a problem....what to order at Kona for breakfast- I thought the Tonga would be a no brainer but those pancakes look fantastic too!! I think I'll have to talk DH into the pancakes*he doesn't do bananas. Also did you have an ADR for breakfast there or did you just walk up. The only 2 breakfasts I have booked are H&V(one for the little guys in our lives) and Ohana(for the slightly bigger guys in our lives) I think Mama needs some Kona! Does anybody know if Poly room service Tonga is as good as Kona Tonga?
We have a dinner at Kona which I am excited about(we LOVE that place) And thanks for posting the pictures- it really helps to decide what we might like.
he he he I am laughing thinking how embarassed my DH is going to be by my snapping away at the table. :woohoo:

The shrimp, the dipping sauces in the foreground, and in the background, the potatoes au gratin:

This shrimp dish looks fantastic. Where is this on the menu? Is it an Appetizer or part of an entree?

Fabulous food report SeaSpray! Makes me soooo hungry!!

I understand how some people can have a wonderful food experience and then others hate the same place. We've eaten at some places many times and I remember that it was fabulous one year and terrible the next year.

May I suggest one thing? Next time, go to Le Cellier for lunch, instead of dinner. We had lunch there for the first and only time in October and it was the BEST meal I have ever had in Disney, all because of the filet.

I read the menu for the same filet at dinner and the description didn't appeal to me at all!

Lunch Menu
Grilled Petit Filet - served over cream cheese mashed potatoes, finished with a roasted garlic demi glace $21.99

Dinner Menu
7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbeque sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes $26.99

Personally, I don't like anything BBQ on my steak but that roasted garlic demi glaze was amazing, perfect light flavour but doesn't take over the steak you know? And it was a perfect accompaniement to the potatoes too!

Everytime I think about planning our next WDW vacation the first thing I think of is eating that filet at Le Cellier again! But, with our luck, it won't be nearly as good the next time.

Love reading your report, SeaSpray! Now I've got to figure out a way to add Kona for breakfast on to our trip!

I have a question. Was Lilo and Stitch at Ohana's for dinner? Or was that breakfast? I remember your report about dinner there. Did you eat breakfast there too? We have ADRs for dinner there our first night. Thanks!

I loved your reviews, but particularly enjoyed the Brown Derby...I love Cobb salads and couldn't wait to try "the real thing" so last year I finally did.

Wow.

All I could think of was how my mom used to have a "salad shooter" when I was younger and when my dad would use it he would pretty much puree everything and turn a nice salad into salad soup. THAT was the Brown Derby Cobb. Salad soup. Gick.

It didn't help that I'm allergic to bleu cheese so the very nice server offered to have them use feta instead. I didn't realize the french type dressing would also be savory and not sweet, so with the feta I had very salty salad soup.

We tried to rally with the grapefruit cake, but the tart and bitter taste with the dry texture didn't impress.

I truly do enjoy your photos and review, and love your website. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time for this thread, I'm loving it!!! I'm getting VERY hungry now though....

Thank You for all the reviews and pictures- all the food looks amazing!!!
