My Delta Contingency Plan

Well, my contingency plan is 'not going' if there are no flights. We just won't go...I can't see paying for extra seats to fly, at over $250, when I've already paid once. Airfare is the only thing we'll lose

This is our contingency plan too. :( DH said if Delta isn't operating, we won't be buying new tickets on another airline.

At least our APs aren't activated yet, so we really won't losing anything, except the airfare, and even then, I plan on filing a claim with the credit card company we used to buy the tickets.

I am SO GLAD I held off on buying the tickets for the FOUR of us for our cruise in August. We're flying JetBlue on that trip.

I am thinking of buying tickets on SW for a plan B,mind you i am going to MIL house today to clean her house, take out trash, mow their lawn, paint their garage, you get the picture right.LOL>basically rake & scrape to get tickets booked on SW.I have a question though.Ok so i book the RT with SW ok if Delta does not strike & i call & cancel with SW they issue me travel vouchers right?Ok so with these vouchers do i have to fly to Orlando again or are the vouchers good for travel anywhere? Also say the tickets i book are for 1 adult 3 kids.Ok if i cancel and get vouchers do these same parties have to fly again?Cause me and hubby are planning a trip just for us so could we use these travel vouchers for just us without the kids?I hope this makes sense.LOL.

Surely, Delta couldn't expect to set fares higher than other airlines. I agree that they'll be offering fares comparable with other airlines.

Ok all you knowledgeable air peoples, :). We were going to buy Delta tickets to JFK for late July. I caught wind of the possible strike and did not purchase (plus they went up $20 a ticket in the week we were debating). We can drive 2 1/2 hours to Jacksonville and fly straight to JFK on JetBlue for $89 each way, per person. This will save us about $405 off those Delta tickets.

Should we jump on this, or wait for Delta and see if we can fly out locally for less than what the price is now??? The other local carriers are more $$ now, and worse times. I think we actually get there in less time driving to J'ville and flying direct. My gut says JetBlue. Any other opinions??

we are doing the same thing - going to buy tix on another airline and if Delta doesn't strike we will have a year to go somewhere else - kind of like an incentive to go back to WDW LOL.

if i was you i would go for Jet Blue, right now it is not worth the stress of this strike. Most agree they wont strike but this is your vacation we are talking about and to me it would not be worth the stress of "what if".That is just my opinion though.Good luck.

Hmmm... so if I understand correctly, you're comparing:

JetBlue; $400 less; 2 1/2 hours extra travel time by car...
versus
Delta; $400 more; 1 1/2 hours extra travel time negotiating a connection in Atlanta...

Okay, and you've got to be talking about sometime this year because JetBlue hasn't released next year's fares yet. That being the case, I would definitely choose JetBlue. No question.

(Next year, I may be a little more leary, because by then JetBlue may have had four consecutive quarters in the red.)

Yes! Looks silly when you write it all out, seems an obvious choice! Trip is late July, this year. I guess my concern is we have never flown Jetblue, our airport is Delta dominated. Jacksonville will be a new Jetblue route and does not start until June I believe. 3 flights per day. I don't know that airport, but with a 11:45 flight option, we should be fine.

Is Jetblue reliable?? I guess the unknown is scary, but Delta is unknown right now, and the other carriers here are pricier and too early or late. My luck, if I book Jetblue now, Delta will not strike and fares from here will fall! :smooth:

Thanks for your input.

JetBlue is very reliable -- this year.

Both people on the phone from Delta told me it was 90 minutes. I called once to see if I could cancel and then the next day to actually do it. Either way, it worked out for us. We were actually leaving at the same time just arriving later due to the connections.

We're flying down on Delta/Song on 4/28 to West Palm Beach then flying out of MCO on 5/8. I received an email from Delta saying they changed our departure time on the 8th from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm - exactly 90 min.s. I called them and they issued a full refund, then I rebooked on JetBlue and saved $120! Now I just have to worry about the flight out on the 28th.

Thanks for the tip!!!!!!!

Thank you all for mentioning the 90 minute change policy! I just cancelled our flights on Delta because they had changed our return flight by 95 minutes and I got a full refund. I rebooked on Southwest and I am very relieved! Thank you all! :cheer2:

Our contingency plan is driving home. Alamo had a special yesterday, Orlando back to New York, 2 day rental for $43.00 unlimited mileage! They want their cars back to the NE so customers are basically transporting the cars for them.

And we passed up booking with Delta altogether, went with Jetblue and saved $420 actually off anything local! All four of us are flying roundtrip to JFK for less than $800! Just have to drive a couple hours to J'ville, but we are very happy with the deal. :) We can actually park our car for less there too, for the 6 days, so the savings continue. :thumbsup2

I did the same w/SWA refundable on 5/31 - 6/10 flights. Crossing my finger that Delta does not strike - for me, and mostly all the poor people in Atlanta who will be out of work.

Well I checked my Delta resv. today and found they misbooked (change w/o telling me :rolleyes1 )and my connection was one hour prior to landing. No way to make that right. They say they are sorry but can't give me a flight any where near the original booked time - so, I cancelled all three tickets. Cancelled my contingency flights on SWA, and rebooked going on SWA for 209 and return on America West 210. I don't get my buddy fair on one of the tickets but still only about $400 more then the original plan. In the future I will never book so far out again. :teeth:

I think we are the only ones who havn't had there flights changed by Delta, go figure when you want it to happen it won't. Still keeping my fingers crossed for something positive.

Our flights haven't been changed yet either. Crossing fingers and toes and legs and eyes and anything else I can cross.

hello,
my flights have only changed by 25 minutes so far and we booked back in Jan.I am still debating on booking SW for our back up plan.I dont think i want to try standby.I have heard you could be stuck for days waiting and i dont want to do that at all.Good luck all!!

:rotfl2: Maybe last year --as you know it is posting losses...so who knows what the next quarter or two will bring. ;)

My contingency plan is to fly SWA. I booked the refundable tickets, but now you guys have me confused. I thought with SWA refundable tickets you get your money back. Is this the way it works or will I just get a travel voucher...if I just get the voucher, I'm going to kick myself in the **** for not waiting to see if they deffinitely strike.
