right now have my dec trip for rent.

was looking forward to going - then went to PCB - for 5 days (would have been 7 days but had a doctor visit first) - to my other timeshares.

It was great - loved it had a great time. Then got home and my cat had eaten everything - all his food and he even opened some bags. He had problems with me being out of his sight when I got back.

so decided that going in Dec was way to soon. Now a few hours and he is okay about that - so will still visit WDW - but staying at BLT for 4 nights is probably not going to happen.

so am I crazy to cancel (renting the reservation) for Dec because of a silly cat.

Would never, ever leave a poor cat alone for that many days. Yes, I'm a serious cat lover (and all animals).

Wish you could find an animal lover neighbor or friend that could come in and add some company and make sure all is well.

My daughter even gets people from her vet office to make calls. We feel if we can afford vacations, we can afford to have our various cats over the years looked after, even if it's for a fee.

P.S. I feel so sorry for a cat that has 5 days' worth of litter not changed..... aside from no company.
Cats usually do not do well boarded but better than nothing, for sure. Better to spend the same money and have someone come in.

P.S. you can try dogvacay.com to find a petsitter. While they are for dogs, you might find someone who would come to the house daily to visit the cat, feed it, change the litter. You don't need it walked, if they do daily visits for dogs, they would certainly visit a cat! Worth checking it out! Also, you can check out craigslist for a petsitter.

well that is part of the problem - I am only an hour away from WDW - so I could come home every day - well every other day - he is a little spoiled he has 4 litter boxes - the more expensive one got rid of - it was one that cleaned itself - he was the first cat that I ever had that hated the thing - so out it went.

have tried putting my cat (okay not this one) with one of those places. He has only some things he would eat - so I make sure he went with enough of them to last the time. Well they decided he was going to eat dry food - he refused and lost weight. So never doing that any cat that is lives with me again.

tried a cat sitter - it worked great so would do that again. but being only an hour away would seem silly. besides that would involve actually cleaning up my place - and right now just trying to find everything. never realized that it was easier to find something in a littler place.

thanks!

Last year for my week-long vacation to WDW, I "hired" my co-worker's 11-year-old daughter to come over and look after my 2 kitties. It was a good little job for her to earn some spending money and she was excited to do it, and her mom didn't mind running her over to my apartment every other night. The two of them would give my babies some company for a bit, while the kiddo went about cleaning their litter boxes and taking care of their food and water.

For this year's trip, they will have family in that same week, and as such they won't be as available. So my mom is going to take over with the job (for free, hooray!), and do pretty much the same thing as they did. ;)

If you are planning to stay overnight in WDW, even if you only live an hour away, I'd consider hiring a sitter to come in at least once a day rather than cancel the trip. In fact, I'd feel better knowing that I could come home quickly if something happened. I wouldn't want to leave my cat unattended for several days. Overnight is fine, but more than that and I start to imagine terrible things happening. We were on a 3 week trip this summer with friends looking after my 3 cats and I sent e-mail almost every day bugging him to give me status updates on them.

Also, if your vet staff decided to feed your cat something different than what you provided for any other reason than he wouldn't eat his regular food, I'd consider another vet or boarding service. They should know that every cat has its own preferences about what and how it likes to eat. I had a cat who recently passed away (20 years, 4 months old) who had KCI so was on a special diet. My vet and I tried a dozen different foods to encourage her to eat but even when we found something she would eat, it had to be warmed up in the microwave for 10 s, mashed up to a creamy consistency and scooped into the middle of the bowl. My morning routine was built around the time needed for doing that (and trying to sneak in the potassium supplement and pill) - I wouldn't expect less from my vet and their staff.

In short - take the vacation and get someone to look in on him. Enjoy yourself but stay comforted that he will be OK.
