Although I can try to therapize them I do know my top 4 are indeed irrational:

1.Flying - I fear other people's fear and reactions in the event of a "mishap". If the plane were empty I'd be ok I think. In general I love everything about planes and airports:thumbsup2

2. The Dentist - I'd rather have another screw put in my foot or more spinal taps than have another cavity filled, I just don't like it. When I was a kid they didn't give me enough novocaine and I felt it all...bleck, I can't.

3. Bungee Chords - The cook at my summer camp had a glass eye. He took it out to show us and all this gunk spilled out. He lost his eye when he was tying down stuff on his car w/...a bungee chord and it slipped and hooked his eye...enter my fear!

4. Spiders - No story, completely irrational and by FAR the biggest of all 4. ALL other bugs are fine, not them.

What are your irrational fears, and any stories of their inception?

I have an irrational fear of ladybugs. They freak me out to no end. If one is anywhere near me I fixate on it until it's gone.

I also have a fear of being stuck in an MRI machine. I get them twice a year so it's not like an out of the blue fear.

Roaches...I contain it as best as possible around my students (they are frequently in our school)
Talking about death and funeral plans of my loved ones. I start to almost hyperventilate at the idea of not knowing when/if it (death)happens...I'm getting that lost breath feeling typing this
Bridges and elevators....it's not a fear of heights. It is a fear of instability.

I don't do elevators alone!
Got stuck in one as a kid.. never forgot it! Avoid them mostly.... so not Irrational in my book, lol.

And funny enough... I no longer use plane bathrooms ( unless absolutely desperate). I have this crazy fear of getting locked in it..and no one will hear me banging to get out.
and it's so freaking Small!! Okay, irrational I suppose.

Roaches are frequent? That is Gross and so Unsanitary.. a call to health dept would get that resolved. Eek!

Heights is my big one. It happens mostly when I'm on something like a trolley or ski-lift. Or a ferris wheel! I also dislike enclosed places but they have to be very small.

I can go on a plane as long as I have an aisle seat, but I haven't been in an airplane washroom in years and oh my gosh, I'm picturing it and it makes me shudder.

And speaking of washrooms, I won't go into a floor to ceiling stall. I need to make sure I can crawl under the door if I get trapped.

My husband would say all of my fears are irrational. I'm a pretty anxious person.

Snakes-my worst phobia ever. So bad that I can't see them on TV, block people on FB that post photos of them and last year when we went to the SD Zoo my kids would warn me not to look when they skipped ahead. There's a display that you had to walk through in the Wild Park and kids went ahead to see if there was another way around. There wasn't, so my family led me through with my eyes closed. I was shaking by the end. I think it was less than 30 seconds. It's ALL snakes, doesn't matter if they're harmless or not. Have no idea where the fear came from but I do remember a cousin throwing a garden snake at me once. (same cousin also put me in a pit and let his German Shepherd jump all over me then 20 years later hit on me at my great grandma's 90th birthday)

Umbrellas-they would freak me out. I have no idea why. I would rather get soaked than use or share one. That phobia was cured in Disneyland Jan. 2015 and El Niño. I'm now the proud owner of a Disneyland umbrella. Haven't used it since but it will be in my backpack on future trips.

large bodies of water at night. A lit swimming pool is fine, but the beach, lake, walking out on a pier :scared: I will never take a cruise and I have no reason for my fear. Years back in a similar thread I posted ....

I blame Jaws

(the Tag Fairy even gifted me with the MOST awesome tag from it too but lost it when the Boards did the big change ..that thread was great)

not a fan of the dentist either but like the OP, I had painful experiences as a child so I can at least rationalize that fear :sad2:

They are a common thing in humid South Texas.
@adisneyaunt should have added that once you could tell the heater was on in our wing and there was a funky smell. Rumour has it was they went to check something up in the hvac up there, saw a dead mouse or something and just turned on the heat to burn it off. We have a fixit handyman maintenance dept.

1) biscuit tubes : I have to have dd do it or I do a run and throw at the counter.

2being around dead people. However, I found my mom had passed here in the house, yea that sucked.

3)Fish : ok I am,scared to fish. I don't care about snorkeling with them, But wiggling on a book freaks me out.

Honorable Mention : Escalators, even the non steps type in airports, nope
