Anyone know how I can keep my DD5 from falling out of bed? She has a bed rail on one side of her bed and the bed is right next to the wall on the other side. Sometimes when I go to check on her in the middle of the night the rail is pushed out and she is about to fall. Anyone know of a solution to this?

I need a good night's sleep which I'm not getting because I worry about her.

She fell out of bed at SOG in WDW and I swear I thought she had broken her neck. I had pillows on the side of her. It just scared me to death.

I need a solution for home and vacations. Any new products on the market for this?

Do kids outgrow this? My DS's never fell out of bed at this age.

I don't know. Maybe you could put lots of pillows on the floor surrounding her bed??:confused3

I used to put pillows before my DDs guard rail on her bed. I also had a few pillows on the floor in case she fell.

Thank goodness, she did outgrow falling out! She is actually a very still sleeper now :confused3

My DD is 6. When we bought her rail she was probably 2 1/2? Anyway, she layed against it until it broke. So last year we had to buy a new one. This one actually locks on the mattress and you can't pull it off without unlocking it(very hard to do). So you may want to just buy a new rail. DD still has hers, I told her we can get rid of it when she wants to. She is a wild sleeper though and is afraid of falling out of the bed so we leave it. I believe the saying that she won't go to college with it and I'm not going to fight with her to take it away.

Found this and it looks great. Only problem is there are very mixed reviews about it.......

Anyone here have this?

My sister fell out of bed her whole life probably still does. Never broke anything and we had hard linoleum floors. It was before Parents worried over everything and our whole family would just yell get back in bed sometimes she did and sometimes she stayed on the floor! She also walked and talked in her sleep. Unless it is a bunk bed I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

I'm tired and just noticed my DD didn't log out, She'll kill me this is not Tinkinpink!

You need a different brand of guard rail.

When we took my DD out of her crib & put her in a bed, we used a guard rail that 1st nite. Well, she rolled on it, it got pushed out, & out DD fell onto the floor.

The very next day, my neighbor had the solution. She showed me her DD's guard rail. The part that fit under the mattress had these thick, rubber grippers. There was no way DD could push it out.

I got it. Problem solved. DD never once pushed out the guard rail. Neither did DS years later when he used it.

This was over 5 years ago, but I think the brand may have been Fisher-Price.

My DD5 had a skull fracture and contusion last May from falling off of a slide. She was in ICU and is still recovering. We lose sleep over everything these days! If she reinjures herself it could be worse. She already fell out at SOG and I can't handle another injury. She really hurt her neck and complained the whole next day. It really scared me.

I understand your point under normal circumstances but in our case I really need her to not fall out of bed.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Can you tell me the brand or where I can get one of these?

When my Mom first had a stroke and came to live with us, we were able to borrow from our Village a set of bed rails made for adults. They were much bigger and better quality than the ones my children used later as toddlers. More of a hospital quality and definately sturdy.

I was going to say take the bed rail away so she learns to stay in bed but with the head injury that isn't a good idea. I would take her mattress off the bed and put it on the floor. She could learn to stay in bed and if she falls out she won't get hurt.

I was thinking that same thing. Maybe I will do that. I would prefer to have her in her bed if I can find a good rail though.

Thanks! :goodvibes

I was going to suggest upgrading her mattress to a queen---but you said she has fallen out of bed at SOG..so a big bed isn't going to fix it.

Moving the mattress to the floor seems like a good idea.

My girls like to camp on the floor as well---they have a tent...and we have set it up in their room. So perhaps just an alternative creative sleeping arrangement would work.

Has the ped said anything about why she continues to fall off the bed?

I think I would move the mattress to the floor, too. I would be afraid to rely on a bed rail, especially since she seems to be a little Houdini. Maybe after a (long) while of her staying in her bed on the floor, you can try the bed again.

My philosophy is that I don't care where or how my kids sleep, as long as they do.

We had problems with this and DD didn't want a bedrail. Here's the solution I came up with:

I put her top bedsheet on so that the long end goes across the bed rather than down it. It gives me a lot more fabric to tuck in securely. At night she slips into this envelope like bedding. Even if she goes off the bed part way the sheet still holds her in.

Other option would be to put her mattress on the floor or just let her sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor.

She will eventually outgrow it I'm sure. Good luck.

I agree with others that you would be best off putting her mattress on the floor, especially since she had a head injury. (I would probably still put pillows beside the mattress, just in case) I can imagine how you are losing sleep, sounds like you all have been through alot.

The one that Tiggger1 posted is the one that we have. It grips into the mattress about 4 inches from the edge on the top so you can't wiggle it out. It also as part of the locking system has a built in checking system. When you start locking it you see red in these 2 little windows. When it is installed correctly and locked in place the windows are green. Very handy. Ours came from Toy's r Us if you need to get one today. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks to everyone for their help with this!

We ended up taking her mattress off the bed and putting it on the floor. She has not rolled out of it once of course! :goodvibes

Hopefully that phase is over for good. We won't put the mattress back just yet but I am sure it will be soon.

I'm sure all the info that everyone has provided will help someone else with this problem. :goodvibes
