My DD was hired for her 1st teaching position!

That's wonderful!!!

I've been teaching high school math since 1980, and it's the only career in the world for me. I'm hoping your daughter finds it as fulfilling as I do!

:cool1: Congratulations to your DD! A class that is probably similar to your daughter's visits my library every week - I adore them! All the best to her!

As for the following, who would think that was necessary on a thread like this?

BTW that is not a huge district at all. Our district is one of the largest in the country and that is smaller than one of our regions.

We have 6 regions all with multiple high schools, middle and elementary schools. we are in region 6 with 5 high schools. Entire district has at least 30 high schools and numerous middle and elementary schools. I have 4 within 10 blocks of my house.

Well,bless your heart.

Congrats to your dd. Her logic is correct about the number of opportunities in a large district or a highly sought after one. It takes a special kind of person to teach special needs kids.

For what it's worth your district is huge compared to what we have here in Nj. It's rare for a district here to have more than 1 hs.

OP- congrats to your daughter. My son will be applying for positions for the next school year. He's majoring in deaf studies and is looking to get into the school district to be an interpreter for the kids.

In most states your son will have to at least have a state level to interpret in the school system. Some require national certification via NIC or EIPA. Hopefully he is a program that is preparing him for the testing required. There are both written and practical exams

The OP stated that her daughter is going to be teaching in a huge district and I was commenting on that fact. It doesn't take away from the fact that she got the job abd I did congratulate her on that. The size of that district is a nice sized district.
I work in a huge district. 3rd in the nation I believe. Wish I was in a smaller one.

Congrats! I'm from the Chicago burbs (have since moved) and my friends there are having a terrible time finding teaching positions. My SIL got SpEd right out of undergrad in Oakbrook but she had to go for her masters by next fall or she's out. Rough market so you're daughter is very blessed! Now I'm very curious which suburb, but I'll respect your privacy :)

OP, congrats to your daughter. She's lucky to find a job like this in the middle of the school year. They obviously recognized that she has the talent necessary to work with these wonderfully special kids.

Yes, thankfully he was smart enough to find out what would be required of him to succeed in his chosen field. :rolleyes2

That's still completely irrelevant. She was commenting on her daughter's district in relation to her daughter's job, and for them, it is a huge district. It's not up to you to declare otherwise. The size of your district or anything to do with your school system matters not one bit.

Your answer really served no purpose except to try to engage in some sort of weird oneupmanship.

OP, congrats to your daughter.

Awwww Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana::banana::banana: SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is she in my neck of the woods? PM me with her district if you want (don't worry, I completely understand if you prefer not to) But CONGRATULATIONS to her and to your family! Boy do I get how hard it is to "stick it out" and wait...my DD did the same thing..passed on job a week out of school with a major film studio..greta $, but she just did not feel the position itself was going to be the wisest career choice, kinda pigeon holed. She passed on it and boy did she get grief from just about everyone. Well, she was offered several positions out in San Francisco shortly therafter..and loves her company, position, projects, etc. You raised your DD well with confidence and a cool head..way to go to you all! Great start to the new year!

Well,bless your heart.

You know, I always hear this in Lori's voice from Say Yes To The Dress Atlanta. :lmao:

Congrats to your DD on her job. That is fantastic!

And yes, that is a HUGE district, coming from a girl that grew up with one high school, one jr high and one elementary ~ in one building and three towns combined. ;)

Special Education is about the only department in most school systems that has a growth each year. Most schools in our area are only hiring special education, be it teachers or aides. (BTW, a person is an aide, an object is an aid. As a special education aide, I'm a bit touchy about being called an object, ;) since we are often treated as such)

Congratulations to the OP's daughter. I've found special education to be a very rewarding, frustrating, exhausting, thrilling, exasperating, heart-warming career.

Congratulations to your DD and all the family :thumbsup2! Celebration time!! :woohoo:

Sorry for the misspelling. My youngest DD has had a 1:1 aide for over 10 years now. I've spelled it a million times but mess up here on the Dis ;)

In our area, a lot of the districts are using the term parapro instead.

DD is patiently waiting for a call today to find out more details.

Congrats to your daughter! That is great! :cool1:
