My DD started High School today..G-d help me through the next 4 years..She's also in a phase where she likes to go to school looking like a racoon with red or black eyeshadow all over her eyes

In middle school I had a classmate that put on so much mascara that she looked like a raccoon. I seriously don't know how she got so many layers on! Don't worry, this too shall pass. I hope your DD has a great first day!

You know,as long as she continues to be sweet ,polite, does what is required of her at home and at school,I'm not going to sweet small stuff like raccoon eyes ..Of course that doesn't mean I can't mess with her about it.

My DD starts HS on Tuesday. I used to be one of those kids with the black makeup and clothes and spiky hair. It's just a phase.

Strength JennyMominRI! :sunny:

Oooh, my theory on the things teens can come up with to wear or make up their faces with--is that I've decided to find it very creative! :teeth:

Actually, I will give DS17 a bit of a hard time solely on the principle it is good parental form! ;)
I feel it is a teens psychological imperative to rebel & what if humoungous baggy jeans, wild makeup, turquoise hair etc don't acheive the effect of disturbing uncool, oh so elderly parents? Will they ramp up? :teeth:

She'll be fine, you've given her a moral compass & lots of love :cheer2:

Okay, she's looking like she was caught in a Revlon factory disaster. I find that makes me kind of nostalgic for the Cranston of the mid '60's! :rotfl2:
I remember my friends & I experimenting with "Twiggies"--liquid black mascara lines radiating from around the eyes, like a bizarre sunflower

Of course it's the other mothers' li'l darlin's we Moms have to worry about :teeth:

In the Misery Loves Company column:
DS17 is in a new school (in RI). I have raised him in the woody wilds of NH, a country kid! :faint: Last night he told me he ate lunch alone :worried: . He didn't seem concerned! :smokin:

Okay, count of three let's visualize high school success for our babes--and get that snapshot--that should provide a happy chuckle 20 years from now! :cheer2:

Take a picture so she can laugh about how goofy she looked!! I still cringe when I think about what I wore the first day of high school. I thought I had the coolest jeans in the world (big huge flowers all over them) and didn't realize until later in life that they weren't so cool :)

You want to talk about bad..I showed up to my first day of Marine Corps boot camp in a Mini-skirt and electric blue mascare... You never know,,there might have been hot boys on the plane/bus.

Congrats to your dd and some strength for you mom...:goodvibes

Mine is in 10th and it is pretty darn hard for her academically. She took hard classes on purpose...go figure.
No time for makeup and boys she has too much homework and band.

I told her she can have fun in college.:lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: My baby DD started yesterday, it doesn't see possible does it :sad2:

My DD just started HS too. I admit that I was a little worried because she is so far out there in her style. She doesn't wear anything that matches. She loves to be different. She's super outgoing and nothing embarrasses her. Thankfully, she has fit in perfectly. I shake my head at the clothes she wears, but I'm with you. As long as she is making good grades and is a polite well rounded person, I'm not complaining.

ETA~ Oh yeah, she even cut her own hair. I think it's horrid but she loves it. She looks like she got into a fight with a flowbee and it won.

That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time! :lmao:

We have a few more days, until DS14 starts high school. He should be about 6 in mom time. I can't believe it, of course he ACTS like he is 6 a lot so that might be some of it :rotfl2: .

As for the eyeliner thing, one thing you can try is that some people DO get eye infections from putting the eyeliner on top of their eyelashes instead of under their eyelashes. If you wear it under your eyelashes you don't get AS much of a raccoon look.

you bring up a good point, why do you women, go thru a stage when your young girls, that you think its hot to look like a racoon

Mine did the same thing.....I think I would have fainted from all the work my freshman is doing!! Though mine added a boyfriend into the mix this week. We'll see how long that lasts!! :teeth:
