First, August was the ONLY month we could go, TRUST me, it wasn't by choice! So, anyhoo....yesterday, my son invites me to go to the Dogwood Festival at FT. Bragg. Sure, no prob, we'll go. My thinking was, I can try out my new Mickey hipster purse. Found out, it rubs my neck, not going wear that thing in the parks. Also, even though my hair is short, it's sooo thick and I flip it up in the back...well, I sweat SO bad, it was dripping. Ahhh, have I mentioned, I'm NOT a sweatin' kinda girl?? :sad2: So I KNOW I'm gonna have to go all Jamie Lee Curtis style on the hair :thumbsup2, less IS more! I also came to the realization, that my plan of going back to the resort from 12-3 daily, isn't gonna work. It was AFRICA hot at 3. :scared1:..there is NO way I'm gonna be out during that. I think we'll do 1-4 at the resort, then when it's not so bad, head back out. Oye vey...in a perfect world, we'd be going in Oct for the Wine & Food Fest....someday! ;) Sooo, yesterday was sort of a trial run. I did learn some things..and the most important was, I HAVE to drop 30LBS real quick. Just walking in that heat, wore me out,I was exhausted. Needless to say, today I'm detoxing my body and woke up at 5 AM, to work out!! BTW, it's dark at 5 AM if your wondering . Am I still excited about our trip..I just have a more realistic view of how it will go. I knew it would be hot...but I don't get out in the heat too often, so it took me by surprise! Enough rambling here...thanks for listening!

ps. Let me add...in ALL our trips to DW, this is my 2nd time going in Aug...the last time I was 15 and evidently, immune to heat!!

Chris;)

Frozen drinks around the world are a good way to treat August heat ::yes::

Oh Chris!
I am soooo with you. I usually go in October when there's FW and the weather is mild. This year DH and I are going for FD in September and I am petrified of the heat. I suffer from migraines and heat is my enemy.
To prepare I've bought Keen sandals, neck wraps (polarbreeze) and a lighter backpack. Since hubby wakes up early (and my usually travel partner does not) we'll try to do the 1-4 rest period too. I keep telling myself I can do this...and like you am training myself like it's a marathon!

Someday you will be close enough for me to strike.........I'm biding my time.

Isn't alcohol a no-no in heat? Are there non-alcoholic drinks I could try?

:scratchin

Interesting.

This appears to be English, but it doesn't make any sense! Like gibberish or something.

"non-alcoholic drinks"? :confused3 How absurd! :rotfl2:

GREAT tips...I JUST saw someone on the tips board, talking about Keen sandals...never heard of them till today! Which ones do you have? The prices seemed comparable to Teva. I too get headaches, no migraines (thankfully) but yes, I get um. Great idea about those frozen drinks, the ones w/ alcohol are better!!

Thanks Sweetie!! ;)

Non-alcoholic: Dole Whip Floats...mmmm, yummy!!!

I know what you mean about the heat. I am going in the hot July sun and I bought some shorts for the trip. I wore them over the weekend in 90 degree weather and sweat so bad around the waistband...not wearing those to the park...
Also discovered my new shoes make my feet sweaty...ewe!!!

I bought the Newport H2's from Zappo's.com. I know it rains some in September and these shoes dry fast. I love them to pieces even though I choked on the price. I bought them 1/2 size bigger (they run small) and they have molded to my tootsies perfectly. I'm also looking into moisture wicking tee's.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who takes Disney gear on dry runs!

The Dolewhips are a perfect idea. Does anyone know...are they a snack credit on the DDP?

MoreMickeyforMe: You and your daughter look like sisters!!! I bet you get that all the time.:flower3:

But you know, it's good we found out NOW! Yesterday was a scorcher here, guessing it was in alot of places. I'm not a shorts girl, I do capris. My DP wears shorts, but then she's lighter than me :sad1: I noticed, even though I was wearing a tshirt, I was miserable. I think I may break down, and go against ALL that is within me, and wear tank tops. Even as I write that...my stomach turns. As HORRIFIC as my arms are ( the size of a New England Patriots' line backer!) it's gotta be about comfort! Hell, I'm paying for this vacation, so I should be comfortable. I say this now, we'll see if I chicken out! I haven't worn tank tops outside of my house, since I was MUCH younger and firmer!! :rotfl:

I hear ya on the heat. One and only time at WDW was in August with the ex inlaws who forced themselves onto our yearly vacation. All we did was jump from shady spot to shady spot and scoping out the best air conditioned places to breathe.

Now in DL, we love it when it gets up to about 85+. People on the west coast can't handle the heat and here we show up from Texas and we act like there's been a cold front go through. Yeehaw! Love the short lines!

Chris- I hope you wear your tank tops, I really do. And I hope you feel beautiful in it too. There is nothing sexier that a woman who is comfortable in her own skin....flaws and all. Nudist that I am, I find the human body an amazing canvas of art. The media poisons us with airbrushed photos of woman that make us believe we fall far short of beauty..I say "****" that.
Be healthy, get excercise, and go out and LIVE!!!

Rosie, you are absolutely, a sweetheart! Your right, you are...nothing sexier than a woman who is confident and comfortable. I am in my home...but flapping these arms in public...oey vey!! Nudism? You rock sister! :hippie:
