Thanks Jeff..but the 30 haven't come off yet!! Your sweet to PRE-Congratulate me though! It will happen, I'm in the zone...it's my time now!

Plan on 11-5. ::yes:: Seriously. It starts to get murderously hot around 11 (the humidity is what makes it so miserable) and won't really ease up until much later, sometimes not at all until the sun goes down.

For fast weight loss that is safe, check out MediFast. You can drop 30 pounds safely and quickly, if you follow the plan. Exercising is fine, but without a decrease in calories, it really won't help much. (One of the great misunderstood aspects of all time). I won't natter on (can you tell I'm a crusader? :goodvibes ) because I know how boring that can get, but seriously if you want to drop fast pounds, it's a viable method. ::yes::

Be sure to bring only natural fiber clothing. Anything with the twins is going to make you feel like you are wearing saran wrap.

Be sure to have those good shoes. ::yes:: Either the Keens that you've mentioned or others that are very comfortable. You'll want to be sure your socks (if you wear them) are thick and comfortable too. (Not to mention those "unmentionables" :teeth: yep, they need to be light, and cottony too). :teeth:

Be sure to have a lightweight hat. Something that the air can flow through, but that the sun will not beat down directly on your head.

Sunscreen is a real issue for me. Most of them make me miserably hot, and sticky so I now only use Neutrogena. I used to use only Bain de Soleil but I can't find it anymore. :(

Drink buckets of water. Seriously. You'll be amazed at how much you'll need to keep yourself from feeling nauseated.

Oh, and be sure those light comfy clothes in natural fiber are all light colored as well. Loose fitting too. ::yes::

Bring mosquito repellent with DEET. It's nasty stuff, but so are those 'skeetos. They'll eat you alive if you let them. I use the spray on my clothing, hat, shoes, ect. and try to keep it off my skin as much as possible.

Sunglasses, too. I'm always amazed at how many folks show up at WDW in the dead of summer and don't have sunglasses. Talk about headache!

Hope that helps some. I've had some serious run ins with the heat at WDW, so now respect it mightily. ::yes::

I've got to agree with some people here and say that July-August was pretty awful for me.....but I have low tolerance for heat. (Oddly enough the crowds bothered me more during the summer than they did when everyone was elbow-to-elbow on Christmas day.) Just remember to take breaks, even if it's at a cafe to get some water. It's a good opportunity to take in some of the things you normally don't get to see when you're busy walking around from one attraction to another. Sitting in a shady spot (or even better....a spot with A/C) allows for some great people-watching. :thumbsup2

Great advice! Thanks so much. I'm really trying to prepare myself mentally for how hot it'll be...but then I'm telling myself..maybe this trip will be a chance to see things I've missed...like checking out the other resorts or spending more time in the pavilions at Epcot.

It really is the humidity. It makes everything seem so close and cloying. You will want to be inside during the worst of it, so it's a good chance to see those films in China, and France, Canada and even Norway :teeth: . Get's you out of the heat and off your feet, for the most part (not China, or Canada...).

You'll not feel hungry. You'll want light things, salads maybe, ices those sorts of things. You'll also be much more tired. It sounds corny, but you will feel worn right out!

Don't bother with those mister fans. The last thing you want is more moisture on your face. Ugh. Wet cool cloths help. Carry a small washcloth and use it with ice on the back of your neck. ::yes::

Don't mean to make the summer sound horrid, but it can be pretty unpleasant if you don't take certain precautions. It's the reverse of winter mountain skiing, you know? :) You have to prepare for the weather and the conditions. ::yes::

DVC~OKW~96 gave you some great advice--I am going to jump in and add a bit to it. NO ONE in myfamily tolerates heat well (we are planning Denmark this August--nice 69 degree average highs:thumbsup2 and DD intends to be in the ocean every day;)). Anyway, here are things we found really help taht i didn't notice in DVC's list (but I scanned so I apologize if I repeat soemthing).

I totally agree with DVC's comments on wearing loose, cotton clothing. I wouild add to stick with pale colors (white or pastels) and actually find it is cooler feeling to wear a loos fitting t-shirt in a light color than a tank top--the fabric helps reflect some of the sun from my shoulders.

Okay, we have taken one August trip and three September trips becuase that is just how the schedules worked so we had to. Here is the PLANNING part.

1. It is more importnat than ever to make rope drop. Get there BEFORE the crowds and heat.

2. PLAN YOUR SIT DOWN MEALS FOR LUNCH. By dinner time the temps will be bearable so do not waste that time at a long meal. This is a good time of year to reverse the normal thinking and do sit down for lunch and counter service for dinner. Make reservations for lunch so you know you will have to get indoors and out of hte heat (we usually get the earliest for each day as we will be hungry and ready to get away from heat and crowds having been there since rope drop). Sit in the a/c and order a drink and sip it until you coold down enough to feel hungry the decide on something to eat and order. Linger in the coolness and enjoy.

2. After lunch until around 5:00 plan on doing one of two things. Either leave the parks and go swimming/resting at the hotel (or hit a water park or Disey Quest--but crowds will still abound) AND/OR take advantage of cooler/longer indoor shows and rides. Stroll slowly between these attractions and ask for an ice water to sip from the first coutner service you see on your way and have a water every time you have to venture back outdoors into the heat during the 11-5 time frame;). Best bets include:
MK
Mickey's Philarmagic
Carousel of Progress
Hall of Presidents
EPCOT
The entire land pavillion
Living Seas
Ellen's Energy Adventure
Honey I Shrunk the Audience
American Adventure
Movies in World Showcase
AK
It's Tough to be a Bug and Festical of the Lion King can both be good after lunch. Other than that--get the heck out. I LOVE AK but it is hotter than blazes and does not offer many chances to escape the heat in the worst parts of the day.
HS
Great Movie Ride
Muppet Vision 4-D
Little Mermaid
I am guessing the American Idol thing is indoors and takes a while--it is new since I was there. Under no circumtaces try to go to the Epic Stunt Spectacular when the sun is out:scared:

I am sure you will go in well prepared and with the right attitude and have fun no matter what the weather brings:thumbsup2

A few things I learned when I moved down here, as an avid gardner....

1. Do it early, the earlier the better!

2. Cotton and water are your friends.

3. Pace yourself, breaks are good!

4. Evenings are the best! (After a good nap)

You will be fine with all of this planning you are doing!:thumbsup2

The only other thing I can think of is to avoid the A/C if possible. I know this sounds silly, but when I had an outside job, if I took my break in the A/C, it actually made the second half of my shift worse! I would usually eat outside in a screen room rather than letting my body get used to the A/C for a half hour only to put it back out in the heat for another 4 hours....

July and August are the only two months I have never been to Florida...I said I would never go...After going in September years ago...I said I would never go during that month again...But, Here I am...going the end of September...and I know it will be HOT, HUMID, and MISERABLE....

After looking over all the posts...especially the ones who made all the helpful suggestions...I feel "renewed" and am getting myself "prepared".....:thumbsup2 :dance3:

EXCELLENT tips everyone!! Thanks SO much. I hadn't thought about reversing dinning ressies...but that does make sense. So many great tips..I've copied them to my planning folder!!

Reason number 1,647 I come to these boards....GREAT FRIENDS!

But you know, it's good we found out NOW! Yesterday was a scorcher here, guessing it was in alot of places. I'm not a shorts girl, I do capris. My DP wears shorts, but then she's lighter than me :sad1: I noticed, even though I was wearing a tshirt, I was miserable. I think I may break down, and go against ALL that is within me, and wear tank tops. Even as I write that...my stomach turns. As HORRIFIC as my arms are ( the size of a New England Patriots' line backer!) it's gotta be about comfort! Hell, I'm paying for this vacation, so I should be comfortable. I say this now, we'll see if I chicken out! I haven't worn tank tops outside of my house, since I was MUCH younger and firmer!! :rotfl:

Go for it. :thumbsup2
Heck pull out the tube tops too!

Don't live for others.
You're sure to disappoint someone.

I got some red jeans you could borrow! ;)

One more thing I just thought of.....the storms!

Be prepared for afternoon storms, its gonna happen!

Get cheap poncho's at home before you leave.
Have shoes that can withstand water.

And if you are "connected" while at the parks you may want to pre-program a local news radar into your device....

http://www.wesh.com/wxmap/13509939/detail.html

If a bad storm hits, people will leave the parks in droves! You may want to be ahead of the curve by either leaving the parks before the masses, or setting up a plan to do something in the park that will keep you safe and dry.

Because I'm a teacher, summer is the only time we can visit WDW. We've gone in all of the summer months in the past 10 years, and we love it. The parks are open much later than other times of the year, the crowds really aren't too terribly bad, and... well, heck, we just like the summer. :)

I won't lie and say that the hot press of human flesh can be uncomfortable, but we've never honestly found anoyone who won't laugh with us about it. We just take our time in the afternoons (not the mornings... we have a tendency to Dash-n-Ride then), enjoy each other and everyone else, and laugh. A lot. :lmao:

Anyway, don't let the heat scare you too badly.

And as a big chick (sorta), wear whatever's comfy for you and to hell with 'em. :D

Rose&Boys

SORRY! I meant as being a big chick myself, wear whatever...

Okay, hell, I didn't mean it however it sounded.

Oy.

:sad2:

Or do what our family does: wear clothing that dries fast (and is not see through when wet:rotfl2:) and waterproof sandals (we are lands end lovers for that) and stay out in the rain (unless their is a danger from lightening of course). It cools you down and you have the park virtually to yourself.

Oh, and when the summer storm of the day is over, it get's HOTTER and more HUMID! I don't know where people get the "rain comes and cools it off." It most certainly does NOT. The pavement will actually steam...
