We have had several relatives die while wintering in Florida and honestly, there is no need for anyone to have to travel down to Florida to bring back his body. Unfortunately, this happens all the time and the undertakers in Florida are real pro's about it. The body needs to be released to a funeral home which will then arrange for the transport of the body home, this occurs by plane. It is not as expensive as you think but its not cheap either. The body is then picked up at the airport back in your home state and brought to be prepared for whatever type of service you arrange. The two funeral homes arrange everything, thus the extra cost, two involved instead of one.

The hospital in FL should help you call a local mortican and they will contact you from there. You do however need to be arranging things with your local mortican.

I am so sorry for your loss and it is a horrible thing, its even made worse when someone is away from home.

As for the motorhome, that is another matter entirely and you might want to fly to Florida then to pick it up or have family down there bring it back.

When I got the call from my dad's brother's wife and she told me the news of his stroke, I was sick to my stomach. I just curled on my bed and was sick, just sick. I drove to San Diego and cleaned out his apt. alone (few days worth).

It is difficult to bury a parent, whether you have a good or bad relationship with them. They represent safety, completeness, the proof that you are a child. We lose a lot of this when we lose them, the pain is real and the feelings are real.

Do whatever you can to get yourself through this. You cannot turn back time and make everything right, that was not your position or your choice as the child in this situation. We are to honor our parents, and I can tell that you do.

Hang in there and find some solace, without guilt, in this trial. That is how to survive it.
