After 22 years I am so sick of looking at my couch and 2 living room chairs!!! I wish they would fall apart. We purchased them thinking that our children would do them in, not so lucky.

The problem is that they are still in such good shape it seems so silly to replace them and selling them would be a waste also. Guess I am still stuck with them for awhile, but am still tired of looking at them.

Our couch, love seat and 2 recliners are right around 5 years old and I'm already tired of them LOL. Seriously, I really like what we have except the cusions on the back of the couch and love seat are actually more like pillows. They're always getting messed up and smashed down. I find myself, at least 10 times a day, going over and fluffing them up.

If you want to replace them it will cost a lot of money to get ones of the same quality/durability. Find yourself a good upholstery shop and get them recovered. It won't cost near what a quality new one would, and you keep the old family friend...

We've got a hand-me-down couch and chair from my in-laws that they got after their honeymoon 53 years ago. They were reupholstered once - over 40 years ago. There is still a little hole in one corner of the couch where my 50-year-old dh's pet hamster chewed a hole in it shortly after it was recovered. :teeth:

I have another couch that is 20+ years - also a hand-me-down. As a matter of fact all of my living room furniture is hand-me-downs. I guess I don't get tired of looking at any of it because it was all FREE! :smooth:

Get a cat!! It will take care of the corners! Mine are in tatters!

I was just trying to figure out how old mine were, my parents had them for 20 years and I think I've had them around 10. I'm getting some new hand me downs this weekend, I think they're only around 10 years old! Yey, I moving up!

Reupholster! Our couch is 10 or 11 years old, has been reupholstered once and will be again this year. Two matching chairs (match each other, not hte couch -- I 'm not into sets) are about 40 years old and have been reupholstered a lot - I have no idea how many times as they were given to us by DH's parents. A wing chair is maybe 30 years old and has also been reupholstered several times.

I got rid of a couch/loveseat that wasn't very old for that very reason. Now I do not buy loose back. Besides kids we also have cats that scrunch the cushions so they don't look good for long.

Seriously, why don't you reupholster??? I just bought some replacement fabric for my sofa - same pattern, now discontinued. I was told to plan for 15 - 16 yards in order to completely recover and match the print, etc. The store had 30 yards remaining - I bought it all at $10.00 a yard. That way I'll have a fresh-looking sofa now, and can still reupholster it one more time a few years down the road!!!! My upholstery guy charges $385.00 for that job - MUCH cheaper than a new sofa!!!!

You can't believe what a lift it is to have something new and fresh!

Ours is 35 years old. After about 15 years we had it reupholstered after shopping around and deciding that we liked it better than any other sofas. The new upholstery was so durable that it is still good. We just moved the sofa to the guest room and bought a new one for the living room, that we don't like as well. Maybe we need to move it back.

We have a cat, a "hefty" cat, who does the same thing to the backs of the cushions. After I get rid of this set, I won't get anymore like it.

Ours is about 6 months old....we never keep one more than 5 years....

Our couch and loveseat are 10 years old and they look it!! They've survived three teen-age boys and many cats!!! :teeth:

Mine is about 15 years old and died long ago. It seemed to have a problem with a rambunctious boy jumping on it whenever he could get away with it. ;)

The furniture in our living room and upstairs family room is only 1 1/2 years old. We have a couch and chair in the basement family room that is about 13 years old and still in ok shape.

2 years old, we still like it, but we don't want it for the family room anymore, maybe if we buy a house with a gameroom we will put it in there.

The living room furniture is 4 years old and the rec. room only about a year old. Our former living room sofa and loveseat we bought at a bank repo auction. I never did like the look of it - was DH's idea - after 10 years it had a torn cushion and was sagging in the middle. I convinced DH to let me garage sale it.

LOL, I have nearly the same problem! My sofa is this stupid floral pattern that makes me shake my head and wonder "What was I thinking?"

The funniest thing about the sofa is that we've had it ever since our dd Ashli was a kid. I've got tons of pictures of Ash and different bf's sitting together on it over the years. You can see the sofa has outlast an awful lot of fellas, lol.
