Alright, I know ya'll are gonna laugh me off the boards for this one! My mom who is the thrift maven extraordinaire, has decided that a visit to 'Ohana is not in the cards for us this trip.
When I told her how much per person for dinner, she said, "Absolutely not! We'll just have our own little party."
So I have started planning our own little (cheesy) Not Really at 'Ohana But Wish We Were night at the cabins in FW. Once I got started with it, the idea kind of grew on me, and I've gotten a little carried away. I just found an inflatable tiki cooler and tiki totem pole at Big Lots. That got me started...then I found some really cute platters (plastic) for 99 cents each, a straw mat to lay across the picnic table (99 cents also), and large serving baskets for 33 cents each. I also found hawaiian theme decorations at Dollar Tree, so now I'm on a roll! I looked at the tiki lights at Big Lots and thought they were really cute, but maybe not in the budget. I may go back for those, though!
So now I have decided to buy a large bag of potstickers at Costco or Sam's, take skewers and make my own teriyaki, and also make my own fruit tray, (gotta find a really nice fresh pineapple!). Now all I need is a good dessert idea and I'm done. I think if it goes over well, we may do this again while we're there. We decided to trade the 'Ohana dinner for an extra night in the cabins at AP rate.
So if you're riding around in the Fort, and hear a little Don Ho music drifting through the trees, it's just us wishing we were really at 'Ohana, but having a good time just the same!
