The transmission went on it and it left me stranded. I actully felt bad when the tow truck came to get it. I told the driver to be careful with her. Now I have no car. It makes getting to and from work very hard.

Oh no! I hope you get it fixed soon.

ouuu transmissions are expensive, how ya getting to work

Some Discount rental companies have weekly rates that aren't too bad, if the dealership is fixing it then you may be able to get a loaner.

How old is "Your Baby?"

:bounce:

PD - I'm relying on the kindness of others. One woman I work with lives near me, but we work different hours. I'm waiting for the boss to see if I can work her hours till I get a car.

I asked about a loaner, they're all out right now, I'm on "the list".

It's a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. First problem I've had and it had 53,000 miles on it.

I can understand the whole not having a car issue oh to well right now::yes::

My car died last May. We just haven't had funds to fix her yet:(
Mine is a 93 Olds Cutlass Cierra though with 140,000 miles on her. It broke down in the freeway less then a mile from our exit. I couls actually see the exit!!! I've already been told that it will be $300 to fix the computer just so they can figure out what is really wrong with her. Evidently something gave off a really big charge that fried the computer and several wires under the hood. Currently I refer to her as my big white driveway ornament...lol. Luckily I don't go back to work until September. If the car isn't running I may get a longer vacation though :teeth: Dh's schedule and my schedule are too different to allow for the sharing of a car. Ride sharing won't work either for me because I don 't go to the same place everyday being a sub. teacher. We had thought about selling her for parts but then my insurance would go up almost $100 due to losing the multicar discount:rolleyes:

I pray you get yours fixed soon!

Ugh, thats awful. Usually once the transmission goes, thats it.

My car all of a sudden developed a mysterious squeak. I'm hoping that it is nothing serious. It is hard to be without a car. :D

I feel you. Our '97 mustang is having engine problems... It's sitting in a shop right now. Luckily though, my fiance's dad was nice enough to let us borrow one of his vehicles :)

I was just without my car for a week my AC quit on me and then a few days later the compressor seized, they had to remove the front end of car to get at the part I wont tell you what that cost me with labor

I can so relate. A month ago, we were peacefully driving home from vacation when the "oil pressure" light came on our van. Before I could get to the next exit, the vehicle started making a horrible noise and totally quit. We had to spend the night in a hotel and had our van brought home at a cost of $300. We had had absolutely no warning that anything was wrong with the car and had had in serviced just a week before. The engine was destroyed. Repair was $2,100 plus -- and that was for a used engine. When I was following the AAA tow truck over to the repair shop in our third car (claimed by our teen with a learner's permit), that car started making a funny noise. So while the van was being fixed, we also had $600 of work on that car. And my dh's Toyota is having 90,000-mile maintenance this week.

I work 25 hours a week and have done some freelance work for 20 years. I had been lax about replacing a client I lost over a year ago, but this was a big wake-up call and I was making phone calls looking for work practically the minute we got home. I worked virtually all weekend b/c I have immediate work with two freelance clients. I HATE coming home and going to work, but VISA has got to be paid!

chager -- Your insurance on one car may go up $100, but certainly your entire insurance bill will go down if you drop a car!

minniepumpernickel -- Transmissions CAN be replaced, but it's an expensive repair. Sometimes it makes sense to do it, though.

The entire bill goes up $100 if we drop the car. That is $100 for 6months. It is really crazy!!! Evidently the multicar discount is really big. I spent almost 30 mins. on the phone with them trying to explain why it would be $100 more when we dropped a car. One would think it would be less. So basically I am getting 2 cars insured for the price of one with the discount. Go Figure! I figured the same you did. The remaining car would go up but the overall bill would be lower. Evidently the remaining car will go WAY UP!!

 This happened to my brother last week. It was a bad week for cars. :(

I hope you are able to get it fixed. My first car was a Hyundai and it was great. It lasted for years and years before it had any major problems.

Mine died today!! We just had all this work done on it too.. Automatic Transmission serviced, the whole brake system worked on, etc... And today, as we were leaving the pool, it wouldn't start. Unfortunately, it isn't the battery, so I had it towed to the dealer. I have a love/hate relationship with my van!! Ugh.

I see you leave for Vaction in 16 days. Hopefully its still on again. I feel your pain. My car died last year now I have beater till next January.

This must be the week for transmissions because in my Mom car hers just went out. We hopeing that guy she knows can get a use one for her and put the transmission in for cheap.

If don't do that way I don't think we can afford to take somewhere to get car fix.

This post jinxed me! I read it this morning and DH just called to tell me that his car, which was just in the shop 7/16 getting a new fuel injector, is sputtering all over the place and has no power. And of course the dealership can't get it in until the 19th!!!!

I'm praying my mom will loan us one of their cars or it's going to be a rough week and half!
