My Camera is Broken - I blame Vader! Star Wars Weekend May 2010

Quote:In case anyone is wondering, my mini meltdown went through the following stages: 1) Denial 2) Anger 3) Bargaining 4) Acceptance

Your fantastic report has me cracking up all over the place!!!! :rotfl2:

I especially loved your musings on the lady that hogged up 3 tables and about 27 different chairs without eating a thing!

If it had been me, I would have gone over to her and helpfully explained that her family sent you over to tell her that they were sitting at tables inside and they wanted her to go over to where they were.

If she came back to get her revenge, you could have engaged her in a light saber duel with one of those Pecos Bill's fiber fries, or perhaps feigned ignorance and claimed that you mistakenly told the wrong woman. She couldn't argue with THAT now could she! :rolleyes1

Disney in the heat of the summer can really be a dog eat dog world.

Thanks so much for the great trip report!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I have to admit- although I was really excited that my camera was fixed so quickly and at no cost, there was a little part of me that was disappointed because I had rationalized upgrading my camera body thinking, "A 5d would never have broken that easily! I'm going full frame!" Of course, not true, and I really don't think I'll go full frame for another couple years at least but...it was a nice fantasy!

Oh and that Pecos Bill lady! Nice suggestions! I don't think it would have bothered me that much if we hadn't already been having a frustrating experience. I was really trying to keep the attitude of "Nothing is going to bother us, nothing is going to ruin our vacation" but she got the better or me! I like the light saber idea!

Loved the trip report. There is comfort in numbers, right? It always makes me feel better when I find others as obsessed with their Disney photography as I am!

I TOTALLY understand your mini-meltdown. On our Disneyland trip in 2007, something happened to my DSLR mid-way through our second of 2 days at the park. On the up side, I REALLY wanted pictures of my daughter with Belle. On the down side? Immediately after I got those pictures I developed some sort of problem with the shutter in my camera and it wouldn't work, leaving me sans DSLR the rest of that day, and the rest of our 1500 mile drive home through the scenic southwest.

Mine was under warranty through Sears, so I knew they would fix or replace it. I found myself wishing it wasn't. I was DYING to stop and just buy a new one! But I was happy when I got home to find out Sears couldn't fix it and would replace it with a newer model.

It's a horrible feeling though to be RIGHT where you want to use it the most and not have it!

I really enjoy seeing everyone's shots at Star Wars weekend. I just doubt I would ever brave the heat to do it.

Thanks for sharing!

So when are you going back to photograph Spectro?????

I had thought I was alone in my obsessions, Disney and photography, and then I found the photography board last year and it made me feel better. Then I found everyone's flickr sites and saw how many people post just Disney pictures every day and it made me feel even better!

Star Wars Weekend was really fun. It was really hot, though. One of the reasons there are so few pictures of me (other than the obvious, that I was taking the pictures) was that it was so hot and I was sweaty and didn't want my picture taken. Is there ever perfect weather at Disney? Or does it just go from cold to hot with no in between? The last time I was there (Feb 09) it was so cold I had to buy a jacket!

I will be going back at the end of August! I am going to use this annual pass like crazy. The great thing is that I work 4 days a week so I can take my day off Friday one week and Monday the next so that gives me a 4 day weekend without even using vacation time. I did get some shots of Spectro- some really nice long exposure ones- but not any regular shots. Nevertheless, I'm actually hoping that they extend the Electrical Parade a little longer. It's supposed to be done by the time I go back but...here's hoping!

What an excellent trip report! And the pictures are simply amazing. When I got my SLR after High School, the first thing I did was try to get night shots. Back in the day, having to wait for the prints to be developed, I wasted a lot of money. I must say that your night shots in the parks are breathtaking. :worship: Wow!

I haven't yet purchased a DSLR, but it is plainly obvious the difference in the photos you took with your 50D and the ones you took with the point-and-shoot.

My son just got a Canon Rebel T2i and took it to Boston on our last trip. He got some amazing shots also, and he is just learning.

Also, thanks for the great pictures of Coronado Springs. I have never stayed there and was planning on the Grand Floridian for our trip this November, but it is quite $$$$. As nice as you described Coronado (and photographed) we may need to consider that one.

Looking forward to your next trip report from your August Trip!

Thanks, Gary! Great to see you here. I definitely recommend the Coronado. The price wasn't too bad- I think we had the 30 or 35% discount- although I will say it helps that I went with my brother so I only had to pay for half! Next trip, we will be staying at Pop Century and with the AP discount, it's less than $60/night. I think we will be staying at the value resorts from now on because I'd rather get a cheap resort and go frequently!

As for the point and shoot vs DSLR- I don't think you have to have a DSLR to get good pictures, it just gives you more creative control. My brother's point and shoot was bottom of the line, so that impacted things. I'm tempted to buy a small point and shoot, too, but I'm resisting!

Really enjoyed your report and the gorgeous pictures. Look forward to seeing more1
Thanks! I just started reading your trip report and will be following along!

Thanks! I have started reading your trip report, too. We were there at the same time :) I'm only on day 2, because I really have to clean the house today and not spend the entire day on my laptop, but I already see a lot of similarities between our vacation styles! Oh, and I ALWAYS have to stop and take duck pictures, too!

Wow, great pictures... I can't wait to see more more more.
Thanks! 23 days and counting!
