My boss seems somewhat inconsiderate

We get our schedules for the entire month during the last or next to last week of the previous month. For instance, we got June's schedul yesterday, May 21.

Anyway, we already know next weeks schedule and have known it for awhile now. When I get to work today, there is this big list of names of people who have to come in early on Tuesday, and another for Wednesday, to do markdowns. My name is on the Wednesday list. Instead of coming in at ten, I now have to come in at eight.

My point is this: I am an adult, and I have a life outside of work. If I am needed at work during hours which I was not scheduled, I can usually accomodate them, if asked. I don't mind coming in a few hours early, and most of my coworkers don't either, since we can all use the extra money.

But why couldn't I have been treated as an adult and been asked? Would that be too much? :confused3 What do you all think?

I assume you are working retail? Is the decision to do markdowns made at the last minute based on sales? Did they tell you when you took the job that this could happen?

Yes, I work in retail.

When I took the job, I was at another store. Markdowns are decided on by the buyers, so every store gets them at about the same time. When we had them at my old store, we would do them during the day...unless there was an ungodly number of them, at which point our manager would ask if we could come in a little early to help get them started.

I have no problem coming in early to do anything, but I think some respect of employees should be shown simply by asking! Even at this store, the assistant area manager did ask me if I could do this on another day (about two weeks ago). Why this manager cannot show the same courtesy is beyond me. And no, early mornings were never mentioned when I first took the job, but again, I don't mind if I am asked.

What about people who make dr. appts, specifically since they wouldn't be at work, and then have their schedule changed at the last minute? Or people with children who can't just drop everything and come in? If it were me, I'd simply say no thanks, I'll be glad to do it when I come in, but I do have a life and prior commitments.

I guess what bugs me is that no one asked, we are just assumed to be available, and that to me is not showing much respect.

But I have been overreacting a bit this week! Maybe its more of that! Thats why I love my DIS firends to tell me so!:grouphug:

Common courtesy isn't always common anymore. :(
