Usually when I get back from WDW I'm on clouds for days....not this time. :sad2:
Magical Express was waiting and ready to go :thumbsup2
Checking in,they couldn't find my key which had been left for me. :sad1:
Met my gf and into MK we went :cool1:
Within 10 mins,I was stepped on,shoved and cut in front off. I'm not a tiny guy so I'm a bit surprised when I don't get a "sorry" or "excuse me" People seem to have no regard for others or the parks. Kids dropping ice cream sticks and the parents don't even pick them up or tell the kid to.
When I was in line at WOD a nice older lady said for us to go ahead, she was waiting on a castmember.Another woman joined us on line waiting for an open register. A women walked up to the counter, looked at the display and hopped behind the person paying. The cast member said we should stay in line and the line jumper said she had been and stayed to pay. The castmember said nothing and needs to go to Manners Skewl. :rolleyes1
AND most of all....there is a make your own shirt shop in Downtown Disney...
after spending time designing a shirt for an event I'm going to,I was told they won't print the shirt due to the fact it contains "slang" and it can't endorse the event. We had a poster of the event logo with us at AK and all the characters signed willingly and we even explained what we were doing. They lost at least 2 sales that day,at $30 a pop!
To sum this all up....Disney needs to remember what made the parks magical, teach all cast members to have fun at work and to loosen up some of their rules. Take pride in the place that makes so many people happy every day. I used to hate the time between visits, not this time. :sad1:
<<stepping of my soapbox>>
I do give a giant THANKS to all that helped and were wonderful and happy to help out!!! :thumbsup2

Short of ignoring the woman (rude) the cashier likely proceeded in the most efficient manner. That CUSTOMER needs to go back to "Manners School". Or, one of you waiting for the next available register could have spoken up. I do. In my opinion, the cashiers' concern is the customer they're serving, not the waiting line. Mature, responsible adults should be able to manage lines themselves.

Policies are policies. Granted, you had the poster - but you didn't have it made by any entity owned by Walt Disney World or on Walt Disney World property, did you? That makes it entirely different from a t-shirt you're creating.

To sum this all up....Disney needs to remember what made the parks magical, teach all cast members to have fun at work and to loosen up some of their rules.
If you go back and read your post - or even just read the two segments I quoted - it appears in one case you want a Cast Member to enforce a 'rule' that doesn't actually exist but should be understood and practiced by a reasonable adult; yet on the other hand, you want a Cast Member to loosen up on a rule where the rule inconveniences you?

Woe is you. I hope you are kidding.

For the line cutter I blame the customer, not the castmember, for the t-shirt, they were just following the rules.

I haven't been on this board long but the people on here keep me shaking my head and laughing at the same time. I honestly think that some of these people would complain about something that went wrong while staying in the suite at the castle.

I definitely agree but you also get those that defend everything at WDW so you get both extremes.

OP, I think that your biggest issue was the rudeness of visitors. Unfortunately that is getting all to pervasive nowadays isn't it?

Of course!

If someone cut in front of you in line to pay for something, why didn't you chime in and say, excuse me, ma'am, I was here before you? If she didn't move after that, probably best to just shake your head, roll your eyes, and say to the CM when it was your turn, "Sheesh, you guys sure put up with some obnoxious guests!" I'm sure the CM was just trying to get everyone through the line as fast as possible, and taking time to argue with the lady would have held everyone up -- and then the lady probably would have complained to the her boss. You should have spoken up.

On the T-shirt matter, I don't see how characters signing a poster for you and them creating a shirt with the logo on it are even similar? If they don't put private logos on T-shirts, then they don't put private logos on T-shirts. What about that is hard to understand?

I agree that in some people's minds, Disney can do no wrong. But I don't really see a huge problem with anything any of the CMs did in your *rant*. Certainly nothing that would keep me from being on :cloud9: after my trip. :confused3

Several years ago, DH wanted to have crappy put on a ears hat since that's what his friends call him and they wouldn't put that on the hat. It was just a policy though and we moved on :)

I think the OP's beef should be with the rudeness of other visitors.I don't think you can blame a CM for others lack of polite behavior. As for the tshirt, they have their policies and they enforced it.Sorry it wasn't to the Ops liking and they had an opposite experience at AK..But as with anything in life you will always find a policy or a rule,Some know about them and follow them, Some know about them and may bend them , and others simply do not know about them.Disney is no different.I take issue with Disney, when it is something disney is at fault for.

what was the slang that you couldn't have on the shirt?

"Kickin' It For Suzanne"
We had a fundraiser for a woman who lost her fight with cancer and thought the shirts would lighten the mood. The girls did LOVE the poster the characters signed though!! :thumbsup2

I've been a WDW fan for 20 years and will be for another 40 at least,I hope.
My rant was just that this trip WDW didn't have the magic to me I'm used to.
If guests are allowed to continue to have bad manners and CM's have their hands tied the parks will be less fun.

I understand corp. policies but I also know there are times when rules can be bent.

<< leaping from soapbox now >> :snooty: :)

I say look around lately :scared1:have you been to a mall lately? OMG people are so rude & hateful now a days for sure!! Last year we were @ Universal Studios & my son got shoved into a young man & he stepped on the young man's shoes & OMG that kid was threatening my son for pete's sake!! It is amazing to me the world we live in now compared to when I was a teen & I am only 40 y/o!! I agree the CM is probably not allowed to say what they wanted to say :lmao:but you others standing in line can sure speak up!! I am sorry the magic was not there but it is to me this world lately :confused3 it is sad to see for sure

If they bent the rules for your fundraiser, they would have to bend them for every fundraiser. I am sure Disney does not want to have legal problems by appearing to officially endorse fundraisers that it does not sponsor.

In defense of the OP at the cash register, you really can't "just speak up" anymore. People are crazy! You don't know if they're "on something" or whatever. If you can walk away from the situation, then walk away. You'll stay healthier. That's not being whimpy--it's being smart. that's what this forum is for, rant away! It is true, as other posters have stated, rudeness is rampant everywhere. People seem to have forgotten their manners or they never heard of them. It's getting very, very ugly out there.

:thumbsup2 what she said!!

I'd rather be in Disney dealing with a couple of rude people than sitting here at home reading about it! :goodvibes

JMHO

To the op - sorry you had a less than magical visit to WDW this time.

Hopefully your next visit will be better. :thumbsup2

It can get frustrating dealing with the people. There are a lot of rude ones out there, especially when the parks are extremely busy and crowded.

Rudeness is definately becoming rampant everywhere. I believe it is our societys general belief of entitilment. And everyone worried about being so politically correct and afraid of offending someone. Lets face it when I was a kid not every one made the team, we kept score, if there was a problem we couldn't handle worst case scenario was a fist fight there was no Columbine and I could go on an on. Now we teach our kids everyone is equal, every one wins, everyone makes the team etc. And then theres the reality of high school and they can't handle it. Just my opinion. sorry for the kinda of topic rant. But I agree I would rather be at Disney rude people or not.:lmao:

ITA, you took the words right out of my mouth!

to the OP, i am right with u on this one! the last couple of times at disney have been less than magical. i have been going since 1978. if someone does somthing rude or out of line i will speak up in a heart beat. unlike alot of others here i will actually do somthing about it as well. i was in the line for the hulk in IOA and a bunch of brazillians kept cutting the line and everyone was looking at each other saying under there breath that they couldnt believe they were doing that. so i attempted to tell a couple of them that cutting the line wasn't allowed. a worker from the hulk told them it wasnt allowed, they kept playing like they didnt speak english. which i know for a fact english is taught and they are all fluient in english. i have been to brazil many many times. so finally i grabbed one by the back of his long pony tail and jerked his head around and screamed NO in his face... they got the point and didnt cut the line again. sometimes u just need to show them u mean business.

i have seen people totally disregard and laugh at cast members because they know good and well they cant do anything. i was on the monorail with my kids and there were some drunk frat guys who were offending EVERYONE and there familys with obcinities and sexual talk. when i got off the monorail i told the cast member and he told them they would have to calm down. the frat guys laughed it off. when me and my kids turned the corner walking towards MK, they were there waiting for me to "teach me a lesson" so i told my GF and kids to stand back the first guy got let me te.. and i dropped him like a sack of potatoes. he was trying to tell his friends to call the cops but we just walked off and watched wishes and enjoyed the best EMH everrrrr!

have a great day:goodvibes
