I'm officially old:( I have two in high school now--all those helping out in the class, going on field trips, sending in birthday snacks days are GONE. In a way, I'm glad (too much work), but I do miss them a little. I had to work (I work at a school too) so I couldn't even drive him:( Can't wait to hear about his day.

Anyone else feeling a little left out?

I went through that last year so I know what you are feeling. It is hard to see "your baby" head off to high school. Hopefully his first day went great and he will enjoy high school. DD starts sophomore year tomorrow. She is looking forward to the social part of school, but not the academic part. I am not really looking forward to it either, I will miss the carefree days & homework free nights! Let us know how his first day went.

Know what ya mean! DS graduated 3 years ago and now DD is a senior. Every year I have felt just a little more left out. Now the nest is gonna be empty and I am not looking forward to that at all. The academic "stress" is BIG escpecially this year.

Hope everything went well for all those on their first day back. (we have been back since Aug. 11)

I'm in the same boat with you . . . my DD is a junior and my DS is a freshman. Where did the time go?!

They've been in school for 2 weeks now. Daughter is VERY diligent with homework and son isn't as much, so we're working on establishing good work habits now. We're busy with soccer and baseball, so there really hasn't been much down time.

I do miss some of the parental involvement I had when they were in elementary school. But watching them grow up to be interesting young adults is fun too!

My youngest dd-14 started h.s. today too. I also have a ds who is a Junior.

Anyway, I had to go get a new WI license- and I picked up KFC for lunch for son, cause I know he always comes home for lunch. 2.2 minutes later, in walks dd with 2 friends. She was mad I didn't have anything for her. I thought I heard her tell her brother she was going to go to a gas station.

Anyway, they only have 18 minutes and the best I could come up with was grilled cheese and they all drank a huge glass of milk. I told the girls, I don't mind if they stop for lunch, but sometimes I am not home, and they won't have enough time to make something. I told them to plan their week out-like when they have volleball practice to eat hot lunch at school so they won't be so hungry during practice, and on game days, they can come to our house.

Let the school year begin!!

OhMari - you must live really close to school! We don't have open campus at our school, even if we did DD would never make it home on time. We live on the complete opposite end of town. Having 2 high schools in 1 building may have seemed like a good idea when they were built, but it is no fun having to drive all the way across town for everything! I agree with Dan though, the high school years are interesting. DS #1 graduated 2 years ago.
DD is a lot more involved in school and we are enjoying it!

my twins who are my youngest will be starting their sr. year next Wed. I am feeling old, and having a major case of the blues about this. It's the last year of having kids in the house.

My "baby" started high school this week, too but for some reason I feel busier than I have in the past.

He joined football (for the first time ever) so between his games and my other DS who's a senior, I will be going to tons of games.

Also, now that my baby is in HS band I decided to help in the planning of their band trip to Disney next year........that's already keeping me very busy!!!:earsgirl:

Actually--the exact same boat. My DD is a junior as well. She still seems so young to me--too young to be thinking about college, but so it goes......

His first day went well. It was actually freshman orientation so it was a short day and then they had a bbq for the kids, which was nice. The sad part is that 2/3 of the kids he went to middle school with (and that are his best friends) are going to the other high school on the far end of town.:( He has all honors courses so this year will be very challenging for him. Sounds like all are "babies" are doing just fine.

My oldest DS started HS today too! I'm curious to see how it all went - but he has football practice so I won't know for a couple more hours.

We went to his Freshman orientation last night - there are two teachers still there from when I graduated 20 years ago...I know I feel old - but I bet they feel OLDER!:teeth:

officially old

???????????????

My only child is 29 and finished graduate school in 2002. He married on 7/11/04. I don't consider myself old and you shouldn't either. Your life is about to be lots of fun :teeth:

My "baby" is a high school Freshman, also. Today was her first day and I couldn't wait for her to get home so I could hear all about her day. Today was just for Freshmen so it made it a little easier to ease into things. She's a little nervous about tomorrow and all the upperclassmen being there. All day I kept looking at her schedule so I knew exactly where she was and what she was doing. She ended up having a good day which makes me VERY HAPPY!

Good luck to all the brand new high schoolers this year!:)

TimeforMe, I can relate to your thoughts about college. It's SO different than when we were teenagers.

Back in the "olden" days, I took the ACT once (didn't realize there was a SAT; in the Midwest back then no one required them) and we never even thought about preparatory courses or taking them again to improve scores.

Both my kids are talking about going out of state to college as well. I never even considered it then - now I wished I had.

The world's gotten a lot smaller since I was 18!!!

Good luck to everyone's kids - hope they have a successful high school year!

HA! They STILL don't push the SAT.
