Not all Philadelphian's love the Mummers.

No idea, whatsoever. (and I think I read your last annual thread about this, but still can't recall) Sounds dirty though, LOL.

Oh yes, indeed! I was born in Philadelphia, and I even had a bunch of their albums! :dance3:

Sure do! Half the extended family is born and bred South Philly. At selected family gathering if someone plays "oh, those golden slippers" half the group is up doing the Mummer's strut - and this is without alcohol!
yep my family too. We had albums that came out at family parties, where my grandmother would break out her own golden slippers and teach the mummers strut to all the grandkids. As a kid I hated the eternal parade and therefore never taught my kids the strut. Now that my grandmother is gone I feel badly about that. I could never pay my kids to go to the parade today although my son has one very good friend who is in the parade now. He's 19 and last year was the first year he was allowed on the adult bus. He told my son he can see why now.
Also as a kid we went to the show of show or best of show or whatever the big thing was in the spectrum after the parade.

Just to give you an idea how into the mummers people can get. I went on a quick Christmas shopping trip on a lunch break one year, a very macho, good looking young guy I worked with came with me because he needed white tights because he was a mummer and couldn't find one pair of tights in the stores in his neighborhood cause they were sold out!!!!!!! I don't get it.:confused3

absolutely my grandfather and most of my uncles were mummers. Also I had an aunt with a house on two street where we'd go every year. Mummers are fun but mummers on two street are fun squared.

Same here! It just doesn't feel like New Year's Day if you're not on 2nd Street. I was born at 2nd and Mercy and still have family there. My dad was a mummer for years until we moved to the northeast and it was just too hard to get back all the time.

Favorite mummer memory? My 5'2" Grandmother doing the Mummer's Strut on 2nd Street with Bobby Shannon of Quaker City the year they did Fiddler on the Roof. I was probably 10 or 11 years old - 33 years ago!

Sadly, I do.

I also know who the Hummers are!!! :lmao:
