My ds's 7th b-day is in 2 weeks. Every year since he's been in school we've taken his entire class out for his special day. Last year we went to see Lilo and Stitch on opening night--23 kids, we needed 2 party rooms. I was always the kid left out growing up and I could never not invite someone.
Well this year his class has increased and we've been having some temporary financial issues so I explained to my ds we could still do the movies this year but would only be able to take 10 kids. Due to other circumstances a house party is not possible. My ds replies "No, if I can't invite everyone I don't need a party this year!" He didn't say this with attitude just with reason in his voice. I ask him why and he explains that there are lots of parties that he doesn't get invited to and that hurts his feelings so he didn't want to do that to other kids. He says he'd rather have just the family and that way nobody gets left out. Of course I cried like the baby I am. Of course my DH and I had to come up with something so we decided on a bowling party for you guessed it---the whole class!! It costs about the same as taking 10 kids to the movies so we all win.
I am so filled with pride for my son. He is "special needs" with a number of issues. But his heart is the size of the universe and I tell him everyday that I'm the luckiest mom in the entire world!!
