My ds's 7th b-day is in 2 weeks. Every year since he's been in school we've taken his entire class out for his special day. Last year we went to see Lilo and Stitch on opening night--23 kids, we needed 2 party rooms. I was always the kid left out growing up and I could never not invite someone.

Well this year his class has increased and we've been having some temporary financial issues so I explained to my ds we could still do the movies this year but would only be able to take 10 kids. Due to other circumstances a house party is not possible. My ds replies "No, if I can't invite everyone I don't need a party this year!" He didn't say this with attitude just with reason in his voice. I ask him why and he explains that there are lots of parties that he doesn't get invited to and that hurts his feelings so he didn't want to do that to other kids. He says he'd rather have just the family and that way nobody gets left out. Of course I cried like the baby I am. Of course my DH and I had to come up with something so we decided on a bowling party for you guessed it---the whole class!! It costs about the same as taking 10 kids to the movies so we all win.

I am so filled with pride for my son. He is "special needs" with a number of issues. But his heart is the size of the universe and I tell him everyday that I'm the luckiest mom in the entire world!!

He's learned about 'Ohana! No one is left behind! Be proud of yourself, TMLI. I'm sure he is a chip off the old block!

Your son is very caring young man. They say the acorn doesn't fall very far from the tree. It does my heart good to hear that there are young ones out there that consider the feelings of another. Give him a big hug from me please.

What a caring little boy you have. It is hurtful when you know someone is having a party & you are not invited. So good on him for being the caring young man he is.;)

He is 'SPECIAL'. Not many kids, be they special needs or not, would think like him:)

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to him & you for bringing him up the right way;)

The most special thing about the "special needs" children is that they are SPECIAL!!!!!!
And so are their parents!

God blessed you with him and him with you!

Awwww...makes me proud of him too. What a thoughtful little boy. Good job parents!:D

What an amazing son you have! There are not many grown ups that would think like that let alone a 7yo.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. My son is truly special. I think it is very important to raise our children, especially our sons, to be kind and thoughtful of others. While I know my influence pays a part in his thoughtfulness, alot of it is his own personality.

Hugs back to you all!

He really IS special. Must be the great parents he has! :)
You deserve to be proud and wishing him a very Happy Birthday!!!

You have every good reason to be proud. No skill or ability or strength is more valuable than a 'good heart'!
