My Airtran Luggage experience

Man, threads like this really make me worry about my first flight on Airtran next month. I paid for my assigned seats. I will not move my family around for somebody who didn't pay. period.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it....... I have never had a problem with my Airtran flights...... though, our last trip my family of 4 was upgraded to business class for FREE on one of our flights!

I wouldn't worry too much. We've never had a problem on our flights.

Yes, the problem is not with AT, it's with the people - the ones who are just outright rude, or the ones who do not want to pay for the seat assignment, but still want to select the seat they get.

We did pay $6 each to pick our seats on one AT trip, but then due to bad weather in Atlanta, they had to flip us to another plane. I had won a trip so we vouchers for 4 free flights. Because of this we had to take a connection in Atlanta vs. direct from MKE to MCO. The tornados & storms caused hours of delay in Atlanta so we would have then missed our connection to MCO & been sleeping in the airport. I will say the AT gal worked her b*tt off getting our luggage off that plane & us onto that plane. She got us on the direct flight to MCO & did as much rearranging as she could. 2 sat next to each other, 1 directly behind & one back in exit row. So I did waste the seat selection of $24, but we made it thanks to their extra effort. It was midnight by the time we got there, as then we had ice in MKE :scared1:. But we made it.

If people would ask nicely I would consider it. When someone demands I must move for them it is a NO. I picked the seat for a reason. I don't want your middle seat.

When I get on the plane a man is in my seat, because his wife was sitting with their teen girls and my seat was in the row in front of his family. He had a window seat and ask me if I would mind trading. What do you do??? Look like a witch and say no and make the man move while everyone watches. I took the window seat and was very cramped, the folks next to me were also rather tall and there was no extra leg room. Glad it was a short flight.
By not looking like a witch and perhaps bringing over an FA to also look like a witch or sorceror you are perpetuating the fad of stealing a seat they want and making it hard on the rest of us.

I always think it is funny that people move to the front and take other people's seats as opposed to moving to the back and asking someone there to move to the front. Common sense dictates it is much more likely your request might be granted if you offer a better seat versus a worse seat to keep your party together.

They want have their cake and eat it too.

I am another unhappy camper... but consider yourself lucky.. I fly out of Pittsburgh and guess what airlines offer nonstop service to MCO? Airtran and SW!

Air travel sure isn't what it used to be.

yep, can u imagine once they are a 'monopoly' how high the fares will rise out of PIT?:sad2:

we're trying spirit out of Latrobe in June, they nickle & dime to death, but hoping they might offer flights to MCO or perhaps jet blue will set up direct flights:wizard:

duds - thanks for the report. It's always interesting watching the junk people are able to drag upon the flight back home, tons of disney shopping bags, etc. You have to wonder with all the fuss re checked luggage why AT doesn't have their guests produce their carryons for same scruitiny. Such a missed opportunity to charge for more checked bags lol.
