MVMCP worth it?

Is MCMCP worth it. I will be staying onsite anyway - so can still take advantage of the 3 hour late night entry one night of my stay. Would this be less crowded? What make the party more worth it?

We are also planning to do La Nouba, but we may have to choose between the two. Has anyone done both MCMCP and La Nouba - which was most worth it. Thanks.

I think it's absolutely worth it. They do the parade specially for MVMCP guest, there's free hot chocolate and cookies, it snows on Main Street, you get a free family picture, you get a free MVMCP button, there are special shows.... it's just wonderful. Definately different than the regular EMH.

I think you'll find that most here say it's worth it. I do not, however. I think it was the biggest waste of about $150 we made... and worse, a huge waste of valuable vacation time. We were able to ride Buzz lightyear twice, see one 30 minute holiday stage show, get some cookies and hot chocolate after waiting is a mega line, waded our way through enormous crowds, and saw part of a parade over heads in the freezing cold (this was around Dec. 11), before our youngest whined "I want to go back to the hotel - this isn't fun" and she was right.

Oh, and I forgot, we got to stand in another huge line to get the "free" photo. Never again.

We loved it! Although, to me, walking down Main Street in the "snow", looking at the Christmas lights and hearing Christmas music was worth the ticket itself! We did not wait in line for a picture (although if you wait until the end of the night, the lines shorten) but we had a chance to see the Christmas parade and ride quite a few rides. We went to the last MVMCP of the season that year which was the weekend before Christmas. Maybe we lucked out because by that date, people are waiting until Christmas to visit. If you are a big fan of Christmastime...I wouldn't miss it!

I loved the MVMCP we went to last year, but I also love La Nouba a lot - that would be a really tough choice for me. If you're going to do MVMCP, try to do it on a weeknight rather than a Friday or Saturday - I think those nights sometimes can be significantly more crowded. If you can swing it, I think you'd find it "worth it" to do both, but if there's just not enough wiggle room in the budget, do whichever one you haven't already done. If you've never done either, I'd probably pick La Nouba, although you could argue that you can see it on a trip any time of year, and MVMCP only in December.

IT IS VERY MUCH WORTH IT!!
The park is a lot less crowded, and it really gets you in the holiday mood. I would if you could skip the 3 extra late hours EVERYONE does those. So picture ALL THE GuESTS in ALL THE HOTELS for the extra three hours. Yeah we skip those..

The X-mas or Halloween parties are awesome, but they have TONS of folks out, Mickey, pluto, etc.

Well- I'm kinda on the fence on this one. We went for the first time last year, on Tuesday and Thursday nights (we did two). DH says he doesn't want to do it again- I kinda do but I will certainly only go one night. I think our expectations were probably set too high. Going the first week in Dec., the crowds during the day in the parks were very small. However, they were huge at MVMCP! We did see all the shows we wanted- they were nice to see once. The parade was spectacular!!! We waited 40 minutes to see Santa- yep, got there and stood in line before he arrived to avoid a longer wait- and it was longer later. Fought the massive crowd to get free cocoa and cookies- good but, it's coca and cookies. Saw the lines for the free photo and opted to skip that. Because of the short lines during the day, we didn't want to ride rides at night- didn't need to. So, we tried to see a few characters- lines, lines, lines. I don't know. I think we just expected the crowds to be smaller and we were sorely mistaken. We wanted to buy the MVMCP t-shirts for our kids- they were sold out in the first 30 minutes- if not before. The snow on MainStreet is wonderful and again, the parade is not to be missed. I say go, with the expectations that it may not be exactly what you expect. After reading the boards before and after our trip last year, I think the crowds were larger last year. Maybe Disney learned and won't sell as many tickets this year. BTW- neither night we went was sold out. Can't imagine what that would be like! If you are going during a slower part of Dec.- and you probably are if MVMCP is still going on- then I say go for the Christmas stuff and realize the crowds may be larger at night than during the day. Have a magical time either way- WDW is so wonderful during Christmas!!!

Help me out here. We're going this year on the 20th, which is the very last one. We're going with the idea of finding short lines at the RIDES. We figured since it was very close to Christmas it might be the best way to avoid long lines on some of the attractions.

Both complaints in this thread deal with long lines about OTHER STUFF. I can live without hot chocolate, I have my own camera, and the kids can see Santa here in Tulsa. Can I infer from your concerns (tink2 and Puffy2) that the RIDE lines are not so bad?

I would like to know the answer to this question too.

I would say it's worth it.

The atmosphere is just great and fun for all there are special shows going on all over the park. Also the parade and firework show are great. :earsboy:

We try to go to Disneyworld every year just before Christmas. MVMCP is one thing we always attend. If you go during the week, the crowds are not bad. The shows and the atmosphere are worth the price. (How many times do you think you will get to experience a Norman Rockwell type Christmas???)

The lines for the rides can be short. The first time I went, I went directly to fantasy land. It felt like I was the only one on Peter Pan. This was before you were allowed in with just your party ticket at 4:00. The others times we have been there except for fantasy land the lines have been fairly short for the rides. We have tickets to go again on a Tuesday night. With a little bit of planning you can get all of the party activities done in one night and get a few rides in to boot. The park do "feel" fuller than they do during the day primarily because people aren't waiting in line for rides they are on the street staking out spots for the parade. Some people took there stops as soon as they got in. For me, being tall helps. I can see well from the back of the crowd. For the first parade, I show up just before it starts and stand in the back (on the stocks in liberty square is one of my favorite places). As soon as I see santa at the end of the parade I go quickly over to the Hall of Presidents for the picture. If you get inside before the end of the parade actually passes there is almost no line. I save most of my show watching for late night.

Hey guys,

I have a choice of going on Sunday Dec 18th (My b-day) or Tuesday the 20th ... which I think is the last one.

I heard the last one always sells out? Not sure what to do.

I know I'd like to go just once.

Advise on which night?

Thanks

If you've never done it, I say go for it. Also, because of MVMCP I wouldn't count on a 3 hour extra magic hour at night - those are subject to change.

CVW- as far as ride lines go- we didn't go for the rides b/c there were no lines during the day- the longest we waited for anything was 5-10 minutes with most being walk ons. So we primarily did MVMCP for the shows, parade, and Christmas stuff. When we did walk through Fantasyland trying to get to the dance party (which was a madhouse and we left immediatly), I noticed about a 20- 25 minute wait for Peter Pan- which was longer than our daytime waits. The Christmas shows were packed out- it was like fighting a herd of cattle. I agree, see Santa at your hometown. He wasn't THAT great and the kids weren't allowed to sit on his knee- they had to sit beside him. DD didn't get that. And yep, as another poster said, folks were staking out parade spots when they got there- for the 8:00 parade!!! It just depends what you are going for. We went to do the Christmas stuff you couldn't do during the day and I guess most of the crowd was trying to do the same. Since you are going on the 20th, crowds may be larger during the day than we experienced and MVMCP may be a better time for you to ride rides.
Don't get me wrong, we had a great time and will probably go again. I just think I had read so many wonderful things about MVMCP and the small crowds that we were shocked by the amount of people there- especially compared to the daytime crowds. Go and have a wonderful time- just have the right expectations.
Maybe someone else can give you a better idea of ride wait times.

I heard you can actually come in at 4pm instead of 7pm...how can i do this? Is small world open for MVMCP?

Yes, unoffically, for the past few years, they have let party goers in after 4:00p. The park still does close from 6:00p to 7:00p though to be cleared out and made ready. The MVMCP festivities start at 7:00p.

Just enter and give your party tickets.

Yes, IASW is open for the party.
