Hello all! I have a Disney cruise booked for Nov 27, 2017. We will be spending 5 days before the cruise in Daytona Beach and thought of staying in DB for 2.5 days and checking into AOA sat before cruise relaxing and then Sunday (if offered) doing Mickeys christmas party then checking out Monday and driving to port Canaveral. Im unsure if its worth it or should we just get a 2 day ticket and do the parks. We are a party of 4. 2 adults daughter 19 and granddaughter will be 17 months time of travel.
We have been to WDW over 15 times and never been to the Christmas party only the Halloween party.
Thanks all :)

If your embarkation day is the 27th, then there isn't a party that will coincide with that. Here are this year's dates:

  • November 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18, 27, 29.
  • December 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22

The OP is asking about next year. ;)

For us it was worth it. Being on Main Street with the "snow", having an easier than normal time getting good spots for the parade and fireworks, walking on rides. We aren't willing to wait in long lines for character autographs or pictures so I can't help you there.

It was fun to do once..I'd do it again if I win the lottery.

IMO, it is not worth the money. You are paying almost $100 a ticket for a special parade, special fireworks and some nasty cookies and watered-down cocoa.
In previous years it was very worth it, but (again, IMO) it is not a good deal anymore. The number of tickets sold crowd the parties, they no longer give a chocolate square when you leave, they pulled the free photopass photo years ago, the lines for characters are crazy long and you could hit the same rides in the same amount of time during morning or evening EMH. If you want to do characters in their Christmas attire, you would wait 1 - 2 hours for the Dwarfs, about 1 hour for Jack Skellington, about 45 minutes for Donald/Scrooge, etc. You could spend your whole party just waiting on characters and still not get to all of them.

Sorry, totally missed that! Thanks for the correction.

OP, if they follow suit, there should be one on that Sunday after Thanksgiving and before your cruise. We are doing that THIS year earlier in Nov. Not doing anything else at the parks, but the one night of MVMCP before the cruise sounded like a great way to get a little park time in with our first cruise. Of course, the Nov parties are a little cheaper than the ones closer to Christmas. Not sure about that one just after Thanksgiving.

I have the same question about whether it is "worth it"; and I just can't decide if a special parade and fireworks are enough to justify almost $100 more per person, on top of what we already paid for the park hopper which will include that day. The extended park hours mean almost nothing to us, we aren't waiting in lines to meet characters or collect autographs, and we probably wouldn't last until 11:00, much less 12....

Although it would be nice to see snow falling on Main Street. Does anybody know what time that happens? And are the lights on the castle different from the lights that we would see any other night during the Christmas season?

"Worth it" is very dependent on the individual. We have been to three parties and absolutely loved them and we would go again. Our favourite party offerings were:

Parade & Fireworks.
Holiday Stage Show
Characters - We are big on meeting characters so we loved meeting them in their different outfits and party specific characters like Scrooge, Santa, 7 Dwarves, Princes.
Snow on Main St.
Short waits for rides - The longest we waited was 5 minutes. Everything was a virtual walk on, including the Mountains.

We find there is less to do at the Christmas party than the Halloween party so we spent more time doing rides then we did at MNSSHP. It was wonderful to be able to grab the cookies and cocoa, snack on them on the walk to the next ride before going to meet a character.

keep in mind that prices will be increased next year and be even higher. this is our first trip where MVMCP will be held and I seriously considered it but decided that even though I can afford it (Disney Visa Rewards) as a consumer I am not going to pay what I consider an outrageous price ($290) for my family of 3 Disney adults.
I watched the posts last year and saw more and more comments about how crowded the parties have become the last few years and that makes me feel its just not worth the price.

traveling with the my sister and she flat out said "no way" to the ticket prices. Sis is going to take the younger kids to Minnie's Holiday Dine dinner so they can see the characters in their Holiday outfits while I have the older ones on rides.

I have the same thought although we can afford it if we really wanted to I was wondering if it was worth it. I have been to Disney for Christmas thru New years so we have seen the soapy snow on main street but if it isnt compared to the Halloween party I guess we may just skip it since the cruise will be decorated for Christmas. My granddaughter will be 17 months then and Im unsure if she will be able to make it til mid night before turning into a pumpkin :)

With those qualifiers, it would not be worth it to me. The lights on the castle can be seen before you leave the park. If you know you won't stay until the park closes, then you're paying more for less time.

This is a question that only you and your family can answer. You are going to get the normal "yes we had a great time" to "no it was so bad" OUR PERSONAL OPINION: We would go again, had never been before 2014 so can't comment on how many tickets have been added or anything else. We didn't think the crowds were that bad, didn't care about the characters so that didn't factor into our decision. During the first parade, we rode thunder mountain, 2 min wait, could have went right back and rode again. We also didn't think the cookies were nasty or the hot chocolate was "watered" down, again, JUST OUR OPINION! Everyone has to make there own decision if they think it is worth it.

Thank you so much for this response, sharonabe - that is really the crux of the matter for me.

What would make it "worth it" are things that you cannot do/see during park hours, NOT just having extra park time for rides, characters, etc because of the age of the grandbabe - truthfully, we'd be lucky if he makes it through the parade! The biggest arguments in favor of buying those pricey tickets are the Christmas Parade and Snow on Main Street..... so it's sounding to me like it would be worth it to wait a few years until he could really appreciate the longer park hours and extra ride time.

It was so worth it for this. The Christmas Parade!

Value is in the eye of the beholder. We've done it 3-4 times and have tickets again this year. We like it and feel it's worth it. My opinion: a 17 month old may not even make it as late as the fireworks. Then it probably isn't worth it, although she might enjoy the parade. It's one of our favourites. But depending on her stamina, you may be there for such a short time that it may be a rather expensive time for you.

Plus your cruise is the next morning and depending on the time you leave the resort, it's a busy and somewhat early day and you'll want to be rested (her in particular) so that she's fully able to participate in and enjoy the sailaway party and watch the ship leave port. That happens about 4:30-5:00 and if you've had a late night and early morning, she may be too tired to fully appreciate it and that's one of the most fun things on embarkation day.

BEAUTIFUL pictures, DeAnna!

But a $100 Christmas Parade? I'm not quite sure I can get there....

Thank you! I actually just sat right on Main St the entire night to have a great spot for the parade to get these photos. My daughter and friend did all the other party stuff.
Being a professional photographer these were images I really really wanted. :)

That is it. :) We can afford it, but we do not feel it is a good use of money. The price will continue to go up while Disney continues to reduce the offerings.

I have seen some argue that this is how Disney is going to reduce the number of attendees, but that is just dumb. If Disney wants to reduce the number of attendees, simply sell less tickets. After all, they determine that, not the guest.

if they limited the number of tickets it would make it more worthwhile for me.
