I was talking to a cast member and was told party nights are sold to half of total capacity, which is a little more than 86,000.
So, a sellout means you were partying with more than 43,000 other guests.
Plus. Since they paid extra, they're sure to stay most of the whole time. Very little bleed-off.
We debated MVMCP last night. Opted instead for Saturday's EMH till 1 AM. It didn't cost more and the bleed-off of exiting guests was constant. With every ride we rode, the waits progressively decreased.
I was wondering about this! We went on 11/13 and were shocked by the crowds (had attended a MNNSHP with a similar crowd ranking on Touring Plans). We were thinking that they had to be selling more tickets to the Christmas Party! The parade was a pain - had to stake out a spot very early in Frontierland - didn't even attempt Main Street. By the time the parade started it was completely filled behind us, whereas the same spot for the Halloween party was only 2-3 people deep.
We weren't at all interested in the characters and our main focus was the rides, so I think the party might be a good idea who wants to do that. It's cheaper than a day ticket, and we had minimal waits. Mine Train was exactly 17 minutes. We had good luck with the waits between 4-7 too and were even able to get 2 FP's for that time, and after the party started we pretty much walked on everything. Not sure if that would change for a sold out party.
We had let our AP's lapse so this was our way of getting our Disney fix in. Having said all that, I don't think we will be doing the Christmas Party again. We are already planning on doing MNSSHP again next year - we absolutely loved it - but the Christmas one left us underwhelmed.
