I was wondering what the snow on Main St. is like. Someone told me it is "just bubbles". I figure WDW tries to make it as realistic as possible...being in sunny Florida.

I would love to see pics of the snow if you have them.:cool1:

No it was bubbles really small ones, at least they were in Dec 2005. Reeked havoc on the camera lens too. The same one were used at Osborne spectacle of lights too.
DH brought a micro fiber towel to clean the camera and would either walk around with the lens pointed down or kept the towel hung over the end til he wanted to take a pic.

We thought it was flakes at first too til the kids started catching them. They stuck to my jacket and that is when DH noticed they were bubbles.

When I visited WDW during the holidays in 2003, it was "snow"--made from ice blocks, but "snow"!

In 2004, it was bubbles type snow.

Haven't been there during the holidays since 2004, so I'm not sure what they're doing now! Hope to find out this year! :)

We were there in Dec. 2005 and didn't look like bubbles to me, it looked like small flakes of snow. Doesn't build up or anything of course, but it did look like snow falling. I have heard it is a soap base though.

I don;t agree about the buildup. Well, it doens't pile up like real snow, that is. In Dec 05, I was at MGM for the Osborne Lights. I hit a few spots that were very slick w/ soap buildup, esp on the curbs. One time I almost went down! Fortunately, I was able to grab onto a post. When I went bakc in Dec 06, I paid attention to where I was walking and didn't have that problem.

We were there that year too and it looked like very small flakes, not bubbles.

we were just there this past December and it was snow, not bubbles. We didn't taste it so i don't know if they are flakes made from soap but it didn't appear that way, they were cold and melting when they hit the ground.

We went to MVMCP in 2006 and also saw the Osborne Lights. The snow was soap bubbles. Little clusters of soap suds, like when you froth up dishwashing soap, not like single spherical bubbles. I didn't taste it, but if it gets in your eyes it stings.

It looked like snow to me. The chill was just right, and the snow falling and all those christmas lights. It was truly magical.

We were there last year. I wouldn't call it snow or bubbles, but somewhere in between.

If you watched from a distance (i.e. looking from one side of Main Street to the next) it really did look like snow! :santa: But if you actually paid attention to it as it landed on you or near you, I can see where the "bubble" comparison came from.

Don't worry- its still magical!! :santa:

We went to MVMCP and Osbourne in Dec 2006 and it looked like flakes to us...and it was pretty cold out. I wonder if the temperature has something to do with whether it stays in bubbles or turns "flaky" since several of us have been there the same months and seen it look different?

i think upclose it might look more bubbly.. both are made with SOAP and no doubt, there are some byproducts, not every one can be perfect.

it is cold though. but that's what the machine does. you can buy one of your own.

I live in Minnesota. I'd rather have a warm up machine than a snow machine!

It might look like flakes, but it is definitely soap-based bubbles (but not like what you'd get with blowing bubbles). DD caught some on her tongue and said it was soap/bubbles too.

I guess no matter what the snow looks like...it's Disney..we will make the best of it :)

LOL, I didn't pay attention to what it was. I did notice some bubbles, though. I didn't think they were the same thing as the snow.

In any event, NO, it isn't like real snow. But it's close enough for pretend. :) I don't want real snow anyway. If I wanted that, I wouldn't go to Florida.

It is definetly soap bubbles more like suds... I am a theatre major and the work that would go into making real snow flakes would be a little difficult. We use the soap machines on stage as well and it can create such a believable blizzard. I think the fact that some people think it's flakes is just a testament to Disney magic!!! There is so much more going on that whether it is soap or not really doesn't matter!
