MVMCP Question and December Thread?

Hi all. Two questions:

First, for MVMCP on December 18th, I know it will sell out. Should we expect long lines at the thrill rides BTM and SM and such? One reason we want to go to MVMCP, besides the Christmassy spirit, is for lighter crowds and shorter lines. Will a sold out MVMCP still have really long lines?

Also, is there a December group thread? It seems like a remember groups/thread specific to the month of travel.

TIA!

I am going on December 18th. My understanding is MVMCP has a maximum attendance of 30,000. This is probably less than half of what the MK has on a typical day that week (Average attendance was 52,000 per day in 2014). Also, there are a number of character meet and greets, as well as the parades, that eat up a lot of guests. It certainly will not be empty, but probably equates to a very slow time of year. My understanding is many rides are walk on, with maximum wait on SDMT of about 20-30 minutes.

I'm going on a fairly short trip, so I will be going to the MK in the late morning/afternoon as well to maximize ride time. I went on a party day in the past and things were pretty slow in the AM.

Although 30K might be a reasonable guess, Disney has never released the max number of tickets sold.

While you can compare capacity to a regular park day capacity, you need to be careful with that. Crowds during a party act differently from crowds during a regular park day. Most who are willing to pay what it costs for a hard ticket party want to do different things from things they can do with a much cheaper extra day on a regular park ticket. They want to see the characters, shows, parade and fireworks. So Main Street will NOT feel like a 30K attendance day (or whatever the figure is). Far from it. Especially on a sold out night, Main Street will be packed most of the evening.

If you are there for rides on a sold out night, you will enjoy shorter lines. Just be aware of where you want to be in relation to parade and fireworks start times as navigating across Main Street will be challenging.

I think someone answered you on another post. EasyWDW posted wait times for a sold out party in 2014, and most rides were "walk on" except 7DMT and Anna and Elsa, but they are in Norway now.
Make sure you make a FP for 7DMT and I think you'll be all set.

You can't make FP+ for during the party. Last FP+ for the evening is 6:30 or so.
is the window for that 6:30-7:30? Just curious because I have a 3:30 Ohana dinner ADR and trying to figure out if I can in fact cram in 3 FPs afterward - if I do one window 4:30-5:30 (that I may end up missing), one 5:30-6:30 and one 6:30? sorry to hijack :)

I have always wondered what number consists of "sold out" because we were there a few years ago at Halloween and our plan was to go to the MNSSHP on Nov 1st but had to wait until the day before to get tickets and was told at our Resort it was sold out and they couldn't sell us a ticket. My kids were devasted so we went to the MK to see if we could do anything and she sold us 5 tickets, no problem. She was even going to sell them to us for Halloween night which the party was already going on but warned us it was already half over until we told her we wanted them for the next day. I can honestly say I have never been told no at Disney whether it was for this, late for a reservation or a missed fast pass window.

No, from what I've read, 6:30 is the end of that last window. With a 3:30 at Ohana, you'll probably only get two FP+ in that window.

No, the latest you would be able to book a FP (assuming it's the same as last year) would be 5:30-6:30. You don't have to book 3, though. You can book 1 or 2.

If you go up to the top you will see Doing the Happy Dance and there are a few Dec threads under there. Also, under the resorts section if you select Countdowns it is not as popular but there is a Dec thread as well.
