My DD is having a wish granted from Make A Wish for a vacation to Hawaii. The trip will be this summer. I know that Make A Wish will provide a lot of the things that we need, but I'm looking for ideas of what she might need or would be helpful for the trip to give her as Christmas gifts.

Because of her disability, it's very difficult for us to come up with ideas on what to get her. She isn't able to play with toys like most kids.

DD isn't able to walk, crawl, sit or stand. She is non-verbal and is dependent on adults for all of her needs.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

How about a fluffy beach towel, sunglasses, sandals, visor or hat? Or a silk lei to wear ahead of time just to get in the spirit? A book about Hawaii, or sea turtles or fish to read about what she might see when she's there? Or a similar video? Swimsuit, sunblock? How about nail polish in her stocking (depending on her age), she might enjoy some pretty painted toenails to show off while she's there.

Would she be able to use a camera? If she can lift one, but would have trouble with the buttons, maybe a young child's version, like this one: http://www.hammacher.com/Product/77542?promo=Toys-Games&catid=54

Maybe some "beach-y" picture frames to display pictures of her trip once you're back home?

Hope this helps!

What a wonderful wish.

Hard to say since they will provide your activities.

What is her level of understanding?

Depending on her age--maybe some storybooks (or info books) about Hawaii that you can read to her...

Clothing--if you can search out some Hawaiian wear for her.

Picture frames are neat--what about a digital picture frame that you can then load photos from the trip and she will get to watch the slide show of them.

If you are able to have her in the pool or ocean water--perhaps a new swim suit/outfit.

If her ears are pierced, what about some tropical earrings? Or a shell necklace if she can wear that.

Something to shield her from teh sun--i.e. hat/sunglasses would be good as well.

Best of luck and I hope your family has a wonderful wish-trip!

Will you be swimming with her ? One thing I hate is putting on a damp suit, so an extra suit would be nice.

How old is she?

Does she like lotions? Like the fragrance? You could buy plumeria scented lotion to use on her?

What about a lei? Yarn leis are popular this time of year. They are gorgeous. I see them all the time at Costco, etc. If you have access to any tropical flowers (like tubarose, plumeria, orchid) you could string a lei yourself with just a needle and thread.

Not sure what she can eat, but macadamia nuts in various varieties are popular, shortbread cookies, etc.

Maybe a flip photobook of Hawaiian images?

A CD of Hawaiian music.

I got at Target a CD/DVD of Maui and it plays beautiful strumming Hawaiian music and shows images from the islands.

Brochures on what you guys are going to do...Sea Life Park, Arizona, Polynesian Cultural Center, etc. I can grab a handful of various ones if you need any, and send them tomorrow.

Does she enjoy movies? Lilo and Stitch. :)

My family returned from Maui on Sunday and we had a blast! I am not happy to be home since it is cold and nasty here, however, having said that one recommendation I would have is to invest in one of the water proof digital camera's.We took the waterproof film ones and my brothers girlfriend had the water proof one and it was much better than the film ones, that way you can get all the pictures you want of your daughter when she plays anywhere!

Enjoy your trip!
