Must Have Vaccinations Before Disney?

So are you suggesting no child go anywhere until they are 4 years old?

Maybe their first round of each shot, at least? That's usually by 15 months according to the CDC's site. Some things, like pertussis/whooping cough, that first shot isn't as much protection as I'd like (better than nothing, but considering how virulent it is, I like to have more).

I had a frank discussion about this with my pediatrician about my son who we took for the first time at 6mos for DDs 4th bday. My husband an so are also both medical professionals so we are generally either overthinking everything or saying "if you're not bleeding out you're fine.." So obviously we needed specialty specific guidance.

You should've had a flu shot and tdap while pregnant which will help share immunities until baby gets their own vaccines.

Also, per the CDC recommendations for travelers, MMR can be given under 1yo and is recommended for babies who may go into exposure areas. However, this vaccine does not replace the regularly scheduled future doses. DS got this at 6mos since we traveled frequently his first year and I would give it to any child going somewhere like Disney.

That's the one that worries me, first dose is at one year old and second is at four years old, but the risk is relatively high nowadays so it seems especially important to wait for it before getting into those really big crowds.

We took our son right after his MMR shot, so he wasn't fully immune yet. This was last year during that measles scare that started in SoCal. Our ped said he wasn't concerned at all about us heading to Disney before our son was fully vaccinated against measles. While it's "on the rise" it's still very very rare.

I took my last baby at 3 weeks.

I would suggest asking your pediatrician since you will find people who have taken babies at all kinds of ages. (His older siblings went at 6 weeks, 6 weeks, 4 months, and 11 months. As we got more and more comfortable we took them younger and younger. )

Not everyone is going to agree. I think kids are less likely to get viruses when they hang out in the sling/carrier all day than when they're mobile and touching everything. We've taken babies under a year old to Disney three times. The youngest was 2 months. I *think* she may have had some of her 2 month shots before we went. We spread them out - making the 2 month shots split up between 2 and 3 months so I can't remember what she had at that point.

I know it's a little odd for a first post, but here goes! We have three older kids and are expecting a baby in October, of course the three older kids (currently 9, 6, and 2) are great ages for Disney so we're trying to figure out when would be best to go. The baby should have all their vaccines by the time that they're 2, but I'd love opinions on which are essential before going to Disney, either because an illness is really common there or because of the risk to Make a Wish kids who are there. It's just a shame that the Norwalk virus vaccine isn't out yet because I've heard that's pretty easy to catch in WDW. :(
We waited until 3 months to make sure the first round of all the shots had been given. Didn't have any problems. And have some great pictures of sunrise coming up across the lake from our balcony at BLT. :)

You don't mention how you're getting there. I'd be far, far more worried about an airplane than anything at Disney itself.

True, but considering it's a 20+ hour drive, it'll have to be an airplane for us.
