My sister & family are going to WDW .... which restaurants MUST they do? (It's her, her husband and 7 year old son).

Well, if I had to say "total Dinsey experience with a 7 year old" I would pick Chef Mickey's as the must do. There are great things about all the restaurants, but if you want an experience to remember, Chef Mickey's is it IMHO. The food is not the best, but it is a great atmosphere and you get to meet characters!

Character Breakfast's are fun -- I'm sure the 7 year old will love it. I've always enjoyed The Crystal Palace Breakfast with Pooh and Friends (Buffet). Also, people rave about Chef Mickey's, but I haven't been there. A fun restaurant would be Mitsokushi Teppanyaki in Japan (Table Service). The food is good and it is very entertaining. A counter service suggestion is Flame Tree BBQ in AK--good food and something different than chicken strips all the time. Also, I like Columbia Harbour House and Cosmic Ray's in the MK. I hope they enjoy their trip.

I would have to agree with Chef Mickey's as well. Not the greatest food as mentioned, but you can't beat the classic characters!

Chef Mickey's is a great experience for kids, I would also suggest Cape May, and the Primetime Cafe-I have the best memories of having to wear the dunce cap because I tattled on my older brother! :earboy2:

I'm excited to read all of those positive things about Chef Mickey's. It will be our first time there in a few short (but they sure are dragging!) weeks. For me, another fun one is Sci-Fi Dine in at MGM! Just a fun experience!

If you want to cater to the 7 year old boy, then any of the character meals (except princess meals) would be a lot of fun.

For non-character meals, I recomend:

Kona Cafe at the Polynesian
California Grill at the Contemporary (big $$$)
Cinderella's Castle (big $$$$) when it's NOT a character meal
Brown Derby at MGM (a little on the $$$ side)

At Epcot, any of these are good: San Angel Inn (Mexico) Restaurant Marekeesh (Moroco) Biergarten (Germany).

At DTD, we loved Fulton's, but it gets mixed reviews on this board, some love it and some hate it (bad service and okay food). Our experiance was fantastic. This is also rather pricey.

In addition to all those already mentioned, my nephew whos is 7 recommends Donald' Breakfastasourus at AK and the Sci-Fi at MGM.

My must do is Ohana. Fantasitc food, good value for the money, great atmosphere and the view of Wishes is phenomenal.

Definitely Chef Mickeys for either the breakfast or lunch/dinner. My family also liked:
Whispering Canyon for breakfast and dinner at the Wilderness Lodge

Character meal - Liberty Tree Tavern (characters only at dinner though); Crystal Palace (good too - but just Pooh characters; buffet just ok)

Fun family (non character) - Prime Time or Hollywood and Vine (excellent buffet)

Coronado Springs - pretty good food court (and quite a variety of things too)

Ohana at the Polynesian (not the dinner show; just the restaurant - they have activities for the kids)

Definitely the places that we like to visit when we go. And if the the Terrace Noodle Station is open in MK (on the way into Tommorrowland, check it out; but you have to like "Asian Inspired" cuisine; it was open this past April when we were there - was nice to have a change from the burger/nugget/salad menu.

Hope it helps! :wizard:

Ohana which is at the Polynesian resort has terriffic food and they do a great character breakfast as well. The Monorail stops within a 2 minute walk from there as well.

'Ohana for dinner is a must do. Fantastic food; activities for children and very friendly service too.
Boma may be another good choice. My DD says it is a must do on each trip. It is a buffet, but all the food is very fresh. They have lots of traditional kid stuff like chicken fingers, pb & j, pasta. I enjoy the chance to try some African dishes. Also a wonderful prime rib.
Definitely a character meal. Does your nephew have any favorite characters? Donald's Breakfastasaurus maybe a good choice because of the antics of the servers. I haven't tried Chef Mickey's but it gets great reviews.

what counter service meals should we check out in the different parks and resorts??

Thanks!

I would love to know that too - has anyone eaten at the ABC Commissary? WE are doing two counter services our second day, cuz we are doing CRT 3rd morning and Ohanas for dinner that night.

Here is a quick collection of restaurants...some great food, others unique settings with good food (best to check out the menus either on DIS or Debs):

California Grill - CR (Adult Treat)
Chef Mickey's - CR (Character Buffet)
Ohanas - PR (Family Style-All You Can Eat)
Crystal Palace - MK (Character Buffet)
1900 Park Fare - GF (Character Buffet)
SciFi Theatre or 50's Primetime Cafe - Disney Studios
San Angel Inn - Mexico, Epcot World Showcase
Mitsokushi Teppanyaki - Japan, Epcot World Showcase
Les Chef deFrance - France, Epcot World Showcase (Adult Treat)
Whispering Canyon Cafe - WL

There are many more too...

Definately. I'm 17 and still love Chef Mickey's! ::yes::

Prime Time and Sci-Fi are also great with kids. And adults. My parents love those resturants.

Ohana's for a late seating charachter breakfast or dinner in time to get out for wishes.
Chef Mickeys for breakfast
The food at California Grill is AWESOME-use 2 dining credits if on the plan-not too bad for kids meals.
Rainforest Cafe-kids love it there.
