We are headed to Niagara Falls next weekend with the kids.

What are the absolute must do's there, besides Maid of the Mist.
We have already planned that one!

Thanks.

Maid of the Mist - good choice. It's the most amazing boat ride you'll ever take. We live nearby and do it every summer.::yes::

A walk down Clifton Hill is very entertaining. Very touristy, lots of wax museums and shops, restaurants and other tourist trap fun stuff. A little tacky, but very entertaining.

Cave of the Winds is the walking tour behind the American falls. Very highly recommended. You wear rain slickers because it's WET and wild.

If you're into casinos there are two really good ones. Casino Niagara on the Canadian side and Seneca Niagara on the American side. :D

And eating at the Skylon Tower is really great. The dining room revolves and the views from up there are sensational. Food isn't bad either - but a bit pricey.

Maid of the Mist is absolutely "must do" plus the tour on the US side of the falls (Cave of the Winds).

If you can visit both sides of the falls, try to do that.

We will try to visit both sides. It's a last minute..take a trip, before the kids go back to school.

Hopefully it will be nice next weekend!

Thanks!
Lisa

P.S. I want to go to the Hershey store that is in Canada!
My DH says, "Why do we have to go to Canada to get candy?"

Canadian chocolate is much better than ours! Much creamier!

My mom goes over to play bingo all the time and she brings me back some. I won't eat ours anymore.

We were in Niagara Falls a week ago. DH and DS12 did the Jet Boat ride. Said it was the best thing they have ever done!!

While they were on that the rest of us took a carriage ride around Niagara-on-the-Lake. A beautiful little town. Lots of bed and breakfasts and great shopping.

I was thinking of taking the kids to Niagara Falls next summer, as they've never been. I read about a Marineland nearby. I love SeaWorld and we no longer have one near us. Is Marineland a good park to spend a day at?

Niagara on the Lake is about 10 miles north of Niagara Falls. It is a very charming, historic town. The Shaw Festival is a live theatre group located there that puts on plays. Also, not to miss in Niagara Falls is Marineland. It is about 2-3 miles away from the downtown area of Niagara Falls. I love my trips to Niagara Falls! :D

TC:cool:

We were there just last Tues. We bought the Niagara Gorge Pass. To buy it without discounts is $35 CA. It includes the Journey under the Falls(excellent), Maid of the Mist Boat ride, all day on the People Mover, the Butterfly Conservatory(excellent), White water rapids walk. We did it all except for the rapids. It was a full day and it was very hot. It was cheaper to buy this ticket and a definite must do for all the attractions.
I would say it's about 25 mins to downtown Niagara on the Lake. The Hershey store is right as you get of the Rainbow Bridge coming from the States.
All restaurants are very expensive in the downtown core. We ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe and it was $50 CA for 2 of us.
Marineland also has a seasons pass for $37 CA, heard about that on the Canadian Board.
Have fun!

N/P! Are you working Monday? I get off at 2:00...I could drop them off then..That is if they survive the trip/. My DD Loves choc. strawberries.

Cabmom: Thanks for the info. I had looked at a site that showed those passes. We thought that would be the best deal.
Glad to know it's an all day thing. We have to make sure we have time for everything.
The kids want to go on that ride that is like Buzz lightyear, only with ghosts. It looks to be $4.00 pp. Just have to find it when we get there!

Thanks everyone!

Actually I'll be in MI :( Guess I'll just have to wait until next trip up there myself. Thanks for offer though.

the ghost ride thing is fun my DH and I did it last trip up there which was for our first wedding annv. it's located in the super heros/universal type arcade place, You will see Spiderman/Hulk etc. in that area. If I can remember correctly it's just around corner from Hershey Store on Clifton Hill.

I stand corrcted on location it's in Cdn MIDWAY.

Thanks for the info on where it is located!
Can't wait to get up there and away from work!

Lisa

P.S. Hope your trip to Michigan is a good one!

The Ghost thing is located in Great Cdn. Midway. You may want to look into the combo pass thing for it as it maybe cheaper way to go.

If your family likes Buffalo Wings, drive from Niagara to Buffalo (20-25 mins, I think) and go to the Anchor Bar, who claim to be the inventor of "Buffalo Wings"

The Anchor Bar is the original place of the wings. I am born and raised here...but I've never been there!

The story goes that The owners son and friends came into the rest. and wanted some munchies. All Mom had was the wings that were cut off the chickens served with dinners. She deepfried them, threw on their famous hot sauce, and the "wing" was born.

BTW...we NEVER refer to them as Buffalo wings...they are just wings here.

And I would say it would take 25-30 mins to get from the Falls to The Anchor Bar. (Main Street)

the Butterfly Conservatory(excellent),

Another vote for The Butterfly Conservatory. A very cool place to visit with kids. If you have time to walk around Goat Island, it's a great place to see a spectacular view of all of the falls as well as the Niagara River.

I was born in Niagara Falls (Canadian side) and spent part of my childhood there. Lots of neat memories! :D

If you're really brave, you can take a ride on the AeroCar over the gorge. I'm assuming that is still there. I rode it a few times when I was younger and more fearless. It is not for the faint of heart. :scared1:

The white water walk along the gorge is really neat. That's where they filmed part of "Superman II."

Be sure to follow River Road out to see the huge floral clock. Makes a great picture! If you walk or drive a little ways "above" the falls, it's interesting to see the old rusted barge resting up against a boulder not very far from the edge of the falls. If I remember correctly, there is a sign there that tells the story of the barge.

Must sees include Maid of the Mist, the walk behind the falls, view from top of Skylon Tower. Be sure to see the Falls lit up at night.

Have a terrific time! :p

Thanks everyone for your help! I can't wait to take the kids.
My Dh and I have not been there for years. Hopefully the kids won't be disappointed. I was thinking of riding the areocar!
It looks quite interesting!

I think we are definately getting passes, it's the best deal.
Cheaper than doing everything seperately. Hopefully we will have nice weather.

I keep going online to see the webcam of the falls. So far, my two boys are not so impressed. Just wait till we get there, I tell them.

Thanks again.
Lisa
