Multiple contracts for one reservation

Hello,
I am going to be making a reservation using points from 3 contracts from 3 home resorts with 2 use years. I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't "pay" for one day with points from different contracts. Is this true? I have enough to complete the reservation if this is true but some points will end up being wasted.

TIA

Donna

You may be thinking of the fact you can't mix cash and points.

Provided the time frame and home resort issue is within norms, you can "pay" for any amount of whole nights using any number of contracts...you can't take say 5 points from contract A and 10 points from contract B to "pay" for a night - to do that a transfer could be made.

If you have different member numbers for all three contracts, then you cannot combine points for a single night from the three. You'd have to use your once a year transfer to transfer points from one of the three to a second contract. Then if the third is still another member number, you couldn't use those points for the one night.

For example, you need 35 points for a single night. You have 15 OKW Jan points, 18 BCV Mar points and 2 SSR Jun points. If you transferred the OKW points to the BCV Mar contract, you would have 33 points. Not enough to make the reservation. You couldn't add the 2 SSR Jun points because you already used your once a year transfer for the Jan contract and Mar contract.

But if the 2 SSR points were Mar points and part of the same member number as the BCV points, you could combine them with the other 33 points to make that one night.

When you have different UY's, it is different memberships and its like you are two different members.

So, in order to combine points for whole nights, you have to book from the same membership.

If two of your three contracts are the same, then you will be able to combine those two together at the 7 month mark and book whatever you can with those.

If none of the UY's are the same, then it will be harder. As mentioned, you can not do more than one transfer per year (although I have read that owners who were transferring between themselves have been allowed more than 1).

For example, I own BLT with a June UY and BWV with a Dec UY. If I want to book a night for 48 points, I have to take all 48 from BLT or all 48 from BWV to book that night, unless I transfer the BLT points to the BWV contract or transfer the BWV points to BLT.

I'm going to assume that you're making a reservation at 7 months or after OR that all 3 contracts are the same home resort. I'll further assume that two of the contracts are combined under one master since you only have 2 UY. If that's the case, they will be treated as two separate members. This means you won't be able to complete a full 7 days on the first call because they'd all have to be in one master contract to do so. You'll have to make 2 reservation and then link them and if you have orphaned points they will remain orphaned unless you can transfer them or use them in some other way. One way around some of these issues is to transfer the points from one to the other master. Be warned that DVC will sometimes waive the one transfer per UY and the restriction on transferring banked/borrowed points in such situations but are not required to do so and handle such on a case by case basis.

What I am trying to figuire out is why your points will be "wasted" if you cannot mix contracts for one of the applicable nights but that you have enough points to do that. As long as you can use or bank those leftover points for another trip, they are not wasted.

I can't speak to the OP but if they are banked or borrowed points or they don't plan to go again during the time the points will be good then they could be lost and likely not enough points to rent out.
