I talked to the timeshare group about adding on a small contract, and they mentioned that if I buy something with a different use year it would be a totally different membership etc.

What I want is to add on to my 130 points so that I could get 10 day trips instead of a week, or a 1 bedroom instead of a studio etc. Can you move points around from one to the other if they are both at the same resort to make a longer stay?

Plus with three kids, looking down the road, I think it would be better to have seperate contracts so I can divvy the points up easier to each of them, rather than having one contract.

Having add-on itis sure is bad, especially since I haven't been on our first DVC trip as of yet.

If you add-on to your original contract, you can easily use points from both contracts to make reservations by combining the points. You would still be subject to the Home Resort priority for reservations and the contracts will also have the same Use Year.

If the next contract is for a different resort, the points can still be combined at 7 months for reservations. Usually, if they contracts have a different Use Year, they will not be combined with your original contract and will also be treated as two different memberships.

If purchased thuru resale with a different Use Year, there is little chance that Disney would combine the two, but points could still be used from both contracts where you could reserve as many nights as possible using one and then reserve the remaining nights from the other and MS will link them all together into one seamless reservation.

If purchased thru Disney you will have the same Use Year unless you are prepared for a battle to convince DVC to allow a variance.

Good luck! :)

We just stayed for the 1st time at DVC in January. They offered a bigger incentive to purchase or add on while on site. Something to think about if you're going soon and can wait.

add-ons work together like a single contract - in that you can combine pts from your master contract and your add on to book a single night...BUT you can still sell (or will) either your master contract or add-on as separate contracts.

So even with a different user year but the same resort, do I have to send the points to the other membership, or does disney just combine them for me when I call? For example, if I have 130 points in contract A, and 50 in contract B, can DVC just look that up and use 150 points for one trip, or do I have to transfer to one account from another?

you'd have to transfer the pts in that case. or else book 5 nights with one contract and 2 nights with the other contract and have MS link the reservations.

having contracts under the same member number makes things much easier.

Different UY's require transfers between them as they are different membership #'s, even if it is the same home resort, if you want to combine points for a single night of your reservation.

However, if you get the same UY, but different resorts, those points can be combined easily at the 7 month window and effectively act as "one big pool of points" (but this doesn't work during home resort booking periods).
