Welcome to the Dis! I'm going to move your post over to our Cruise board for an answer. Thanks for posting.

Welcome to the DIS

wow - is this a sore subject over here
"Do what you think is right"

I personally would bring them back cos ya never know if they would be easy enough to use again or not.

I dont feel it's any worse than someone bringing one from AAA. They were given theirs, you originally bought yours. It doesnt help for a family cruisin on DVC points to be a AAA member. The trip must be booked w/AAA. It would be nice if DVC also had this perk.

I wish DCL would just state WHAT their policy is for this. We got 2 mugs on our last trip (7 day) and did not end up getting even 1 soda per day in each. I would love to use my mug again IF it were OK with DCL. I don't like feeling as if I am doing something 'sneaky' or 'wrong'. So we don't plan to take ours again. BUT if I knew DCL was alright with this, then I would love to take my mugs with us on next year's cruise.

Has anyone every heard of an 'official' DCL policy on this?
Thanks,
DJ

The Official policy is that the mugs are sold with unlimited soda refills for $5 per day for the entire length of cruise. The mugs include unlimited refills for the duration of the cruise and days purchased only. They cannot be taken back to use on future cruises per DCL.

For those wishing to economize, you can certainly bring on board your own sodas, and your own favorites to keep in your room fridge/cold box. You will receive fresh ice twice per day in your stateroom and glasses are there to use as well.

Hope this helps clarify! :)

The "official" policy is "<I>for the duration of the cruise</I>" - that particular cruise, and it is <I>supposed</I> to be one mug per person, not sharing. However, I don't care to get into a debate here. If you use it again or share, you will certainly not be the only one onboard doing so!

Even though I only drank a couple of sodas (because I prefer iced tea), I bought a mug on each cruise. I intend to do so for my three upcoming cruises as well. If nothing else, it's a souvenir to add to my collection - - After all, you ARE paying for the mug also, not just the soda, and any comparable Disney mug in the parks is not cheap.

Do whatever your conscience can live with! Happy cruising!

Then I will not be bringing mine again. I had heard it mentioned so much on this board and wasn't sure what the 'rules' were. Next time I will just buy my sodas if I want one, and bring some for in the room. The mug did not prove to be economical for us.

Thanks for clarifying the policy!

Wow, I'm glad that I'm an iced tea person and Tony sticks with milk and coffee! Otherwise, with all the cruises Tony and I go on, we'd be in a continual ethical dilemma on the reuse/do not reuse issue!! Fortunately, we don't have to make a choice...our drinks are found at the 24-hour drink station. I brew black currant iced tea, and Tony gets his coffee and moo juice. On our last cruise, they were expanding the drink station to include other beverages (I think lemonade, punch and juice), so even if you don't like soda or don't want to get a mug, there will be readily available drinks (water is available up there too).

Just to clarify a point about the AAA Mugs:
When you book a DCL cruise using the AAA as your TA, they provide you with a coupon that entitles each member of your cabin to have a new Refillable mug, issued by DCL, on that cruise. It is a benefit or perk given by the AAA and started in 2002, replacing the framed photo of the DCL ship that they gave in 2000 and 2001.

It has the same rules as a refillable mug purchased outright from DCL, meaning used on that cruise only and for that person only.

It isn't a mug that we bring in from home, it's fully paid by AAA on our behalf on each cruise.

hope that helps

I just LOVED the additional options at the 9th deck drink station. That is why I see no reason to get the soda mugs. We brought a six pack of diet coke (for when we had pizza, for some reason I need pop with pizza, other than that I am fine with iced tea and lemonade).

The kids loved the milk and we all used the water from time to time. I got my 'diet coke' fix at dinner every night, so I will be fine without my mug. Actually I found it somewhat annoying walking around with it anyway.

We don't spend much time in the clubs, so that helps I guess. Except the family shows at Studio Sea. We have ordered a few diet cokes and smoothies there, but that can get really expensive! Those are the only times I would like to have a mug.

Here is a stupid question. Does the drink station have cups with lids and straws?

They have straws in Topsiders and we always picked up a couple 'extra' for later (mostly for when we ordered in milk and cookies at night).

But they did have lids for the cups at the drink station, so that helped. It is really nice having iced tea and lemonade at the drink station now!

If only Disney would go to 'free' pop! The pop issue is really my ONLY complaint about the cruise. I just find it so annoying when I know how inexpensive pop is anyway. Oh well! At least we can bring our own on board.

We were gonna bring ours to the Dec.cruise but after reading these posts I will try and talk my wife into buying new.

Bring those mugs that you previously purchased back again!!!!! They work great at the deck#9 FREE beverage station! I almost always was carrying around ice water in mine [from previous cruise]. I have them -- so what better place to use them again than on a returning cruise!
