On the 'groovier...' thread it says you can not refill mugs from past years or other value resorts; yet my Ma gave me a few of hers and said that you can. Do they really stop you if you try and refill an old one? I'd rather not pack them if they do!

First of all, the resort mug design changed from resort specific to Year of A Million Dreams generic. The only exception to this was CSR.

So, if you try and refill a PoP mug, someone will know you are up to no good and you might get stopped. What's the worst they will do? Probably make you buy a current years mug.

Additionally, the resort mugs are good for refills for the duration of your stay, not the duration of someone else's stay and then some beyond that. Technically, by using mugs that you did not purchase, it is a form of theft. Are there mug police? No, there are not. Will anyone know what you are doing is wrong? Probably not. Will you know what you are doing is wrong? Most definitely. Can you live with yourself? Well, that's up to you.

I am sure everyone at one time or another has thought about whether or not they could get away with it and I am sure many have and will continue to do so. I've even thought about how easy it would be for me to bring a previous years mug when they were resort specific and then I thought it even easier when they all became the same design to get at least $36.00 worth of goods. I chose not to because I know right from wrong and that would be wrong in my eyes and the potential embarrassment isn't worth it.

I'm not sure if you're calling me rude or not.

In the 'old' days, each resort has a resort specific mug...it was nice, we bought one on each trip and now have a nice collection of about 18 of them. I have three mugs from DxL (now POR) that were sold as 'good at DxL forever'. We returned to POR 18 months later, but did not take our mugs with us. Bought new ones. Those mugs were good at the resort they were purchased at, for the stay in which they were purchased.
Fast forward about 8 years. Now, we have a ton of these things...from CR, Polynesian, BCV, BWV, ASMusic, POP, etc.
Disney stopped putting different resort designs on the mugs....they became a generic YOMD design. Then, they started selling them as...good at our resort beverage stations during the stay in which they were puchased. That made it nice if you had a split stay...you could buy a mug at the first resort and then take it with you to the next resort you were at.

Do guests reuse their mugs, on subsequent visits? Sure they do. It does make it hard to enforce the 'stay in which it was purchased' ruling when all mugs from the past 2 years look exactly the same. Does Disney want you to keep those mugs and bring them back with you next year? Probably not. Do I think the CMs are going to do anything about you reusing a mug? Nope. Especially if it's exactly the same mug they are selling now.

I've seen people refilling mugs from other resorts, old mugs from the resort they are at now, McDonald's huge drink containers.....people will belly up to the beverage stations and refill just about anything. If you are bringing back your Disney mug, at least Disney has gotten some return on it!!!

You are probably going to get a ton of mixed responses to this question. There are those who feel that you are never, ever to resuse a mug...you must buy one each and every time you go to WDW. Others will tell you it's okay if you use a resort specific mug at that particular resort.......WL mug (no matter how old) at WL. Still others will tell you it's okay to use your DxL mug at the GF.
And others will say it's okay to bring your Wonder bread bag, emptied of the bread, and fill that up!!
Do what you feel comfortable doing. I'm not saying what's right or what's wrong. Each person will make their own choices as to what they feel is right or wrong.

:rotfl:

I don't think I'm going to. I'm pretty sure the ones my Ma gave me are from when they were made for individual resorts and I'd feel sneaky doing that. We probably won't buy new ones either, our cupboard is over-flowing with cups as is! Of course I say that now:goodvibes

Ok I am ready to be flamed but we went to CBR three times in less than 8 months so I brought my CBR mugs with me on the second and third trip. They were the same exact mugs that they were still selling and no one stopped me. And no one stopped the people with other mugs from other resorts, baby bottles or travel mugs that were not Disney related.

Now in 2007 they had year marked mugs and in 2008 they had year marked mugs. We are going to POP in Jan 09 and although I have mugs from POP I will by purchasing new ones for us and our nieces...I hope they have a different style to them.

I love collecting the different mugs, we use them every day for our coffee.

My Mom goes every year and she re-uses them. I think it's a tad bit silly that you have to buy a complete new one. I think it'd be nice if you could say pay like $2 or something. Especially if you only stay for a few days. Some people don't have room for more cups!

I have collected over 14 resorts mugs over the years from varies WDW resorts plus 3 water park mugs too. Just got back from our Deluxe DDP trip with 4 more...
I have seen guests getting drinks using those clear-plastic cups from the room. :scared1: I would think that using the old mugs will definitely be better in that case, don't you think?! :rolleyes1

The days of guests being able to use paper cups, plastic cups, and old mugs at WDW's refill stations may soon be coming to an end This was posted on the Pool Hopping, Mug-Reusing, & All Around Abusing!???

Apparently what they are working on is a system that is used with your resort ID. What will happen (in the very near future I might add) Is that when you purchase your mug during that current stay, it will have a sleek coding printed around the lip of the mug, in order to use the mug at refill stations when you press it up to the dispenser the machine will read the code on your mug. If its valid the machine will dispense the liquid of your choice into the mug, if its not the liquid will not come out of the machine. They will link this to your resort ID, and this is how it will work.

As we all know resort ID's have just about every privileged on them, they serve many functions, and have the dates of your stay printed right on them too. when you purchase this mug, you will show your ID (only when purchasing) your Individual ID will be swiped then the mug will be scanned. they will do this for each quest in each party. ( So if DH is getting a mug his resort ID will be swiped and his MUG will be scanned. DS's getting a mug, his resort id is scanned etc etc..) Because this bar code will be specifically linked to your RID, its only valid for your own use during your stay. There are also going to be Mug refill stations only. for all of you who are wondering "what if I have a paper cup??" Also, the only other beverage you will be able to fill your mug with with out a scan is water. (becasue its FREE)

Also they have been discussing how to regulate mug rules, and apparently if you are cauht trying to fill your mug at regular station and its not a valid mug(IE a mug from your last trip) (because we all make mistakes sometimes! So if it was a valid mug but you were just not at the correct station))your mug will be confiscated and you will be made to pay for your drink. + they may place the incident on your DVVR, which to me is logical because you are stealing!!! This is also going to serve another purpose as well. Apparently they are going to be conducting and monitoring what the average guest is drinking and just how much use their getting out of their mug during the stay. Like a pumpkin, at the strike of midnight on your last days stay you mug will become inactive. Mugs will also be valid to use at parks as an additional privilege, (but this will come with a $$ higher price tag) Just another tool our RID will become in the near future.

I think this is another awesome Idea the imagineer's have cooked up. It makes me sad to think poor Disney has to resort to these measures.

So for all you guys (and gals) out there who hate those repeat offenders.... dont worry their time is coming! for now, just feel proud that you are being an HONEST,DECENT, and RESPONSIBLE Disney guest!

Thanks! I'm glad I decided not to take them because now that I think about it, the fact that Disney DOES have to resort to this is heart breaking!

First off......Disney makes a KILLING off the refillable mugs. Soda costs them very little (and I am talking only a few cents). It is not "poor Disney" because Disney is making tons of money of these cups and the high food prices. I love Disney World but someone using a mug twice in the same year does not mean "poor Disney."

The same honest & decent guests that were mentioned are the same ones that run their strollers over my feet when I am walking and never say sorry, etc (Yes, I know not everyone does this....I am just using an example). You can't judge a person for getting their money's worth out of a mug they payed $12+ for.

That being said.......You are not supposed to reuse your mugs but you can make that decision for yourself.

The mug "debates," if you will, goes on so much on dis. To each their own.

If you want to know a truthful answer, you could always just call the resort and ask. I'm sure people get away with it, but if it is against their rules, then it is stealing.

For the record here, I wouldn't ever buy a reusable mug, but that's just because we live (fairly) close and will always drive & have our own car. We just buy a 12-pack of sodas before we leave for Orlando. That said, I understand that those flying really don't want to weigh down their luggage with sodas.

I personally wouldn't use mugs from years past, BUT I think the "only your own resort" rule is lame. I understand the rules and all of that, but it's not as though using the mug at a different resort is costing Disney any more money. The nickel's worth of soda you place in your mug still costs Disney a nickel, whether you refill your mug at the Polynesian or the POPs. It's not as though they don't have centralized purchasing. Seriously, refilling your mug at another resort is zero towards Disney's bottom line.

Do they really stop you if you try and refill an old one?

I have seen people at the POP food court filling up in everything from old Dixie Landings mugs to Dixie cups. I have never once seen a CM approach them, or anyone else say anything about it. (No matter where your mug morals line is, the Dixie cups were really shocking.)

Just an FYI:

It has been noted that a few CM's are now approaching guests with old mugs.

We witnessed some customers being asked to leave the Beach Club Marketplace because they were using plastic (non WDW) cups at the drink station.

Actually they were asked to leave when they got mouthy with the CMs. The CMs were very nice about asking them not to use the regular plastic cups and pointed out that the drink station was only for those purchasing drinks or using a refillable mug.

The customers got really nasty with the CMs and in the process, it was discovered that they weren't even staying on Disney property! They had left EPCOT and walked to the BC just to get free drinks!

the 2008 ASM don't have the date on them. I purchased one last Feb but it was not the YOAMD 2007 mug, i guess an older style. i do remember a CM question someone about the mug they were using as the design was different. The CM was right at the station doing some refills. For the sake of $12 i will be buying a new one. I don't want to have to hide around. Plus it gives us a souvenir considering we did not get the YOAMD design.

Hi, all. My family of four drove from NJ to WDW. We spent our first night, (6/23) at All Star Music - the Jazz Building. We've never been in a value resort before, and were pleasantly surprised. The room was perfectly adequate for my family. I was expecting a shoe-box with a bed. It really wasn't bad at all. The pool was fun - but crowded. The food court was pretty good, but also kind of crowded. My kids enjoyed the large icons and the other children. They showed Pirates of the Caribbean at night, and that was fun! It really was a pleasant surprise for us.

We checked into the Wilderness Lodge on Sunday, 6/24. We got there around 8:30 a.m. - and SURPRISE - our room was ready. We were given room 6157 - inner courtyard room with bunkbeds and a fabulous view of the pool (and bay lake). We were loving it. Our last trip we had room 6145. We were able to view the fireworks from our balcony. The pool was never overly crowded, and there was always a chair available poolside. The kiddie pool was good for my four-year old - however; he liked the adult pool with the life jacket. Roaring Forks was decent, but always crowded.

They did switch over to the new mug design, and I did see the cashiers approach people using the old design.

I wasn't too fond of the food choices (or lack of). And, my 9-year old son can eat more than 4 little chicken tenders since he is almost five feet tall! So, they should re-evaluate the kids menu.

Whispering Canyon was a fun time! We ate there twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The food was really good, and we had a blast. There was always a boat within 10 minutes of us arriving on the dock. We always managed to miss the bus we needed, but never waited more than 15 minutes for the next one. The biggest problem was trying to leave Epcot at night and having to wait for three busses before we could board.

Funny enough, every time I walked through the halls at the Lodge, I always felt like I was the only one there!

Oh, and I received five towel animals during my stay!

Any ?'s, please ask.

We bought mugs last yr. & plan on buying them again this yr. They Rock! IT was nice to go to pool after dinner then fill the mugs with hot cocoa & go back to the room & get ready for bed.

OT.... I am still trying to figure out what a DVVR is from the previos post about putting bar codes in the cups. Inquiring minds want to know.....:)
